Introduction

All patients, no matter what their conditions are, should be


managed with a sense of urgency and care. This starts with
the systematic screening of patients. This module aims to
introduce and familiarize you through the protocols,
processes, and steps that are involved in screening for
tuberculosis.

Learning objectives:
At the end of this module, you are expected to:

1. Apply the cardinal signs and symptoms and risk


factors of TB in adults and children in TB screening.
2. Identify a Presumptive TB through either symptoms
or chest X-ray screening.
3. Follow the different algorithms for TB screening
based on our provided strategies such as systematic
screening in health facilities, active case finding in
targeted settings, screening and surveillance among
healthcare workers and contact tracing.
4. Identify a presumptive drug-resistant TB, and
5. Determine when to accomplish the Presumptive TB
Masterlist.

• Definition of presumptive TB in adults and children
• The term used for systematic screening in health facility
(intensified case finding) and community setting (active
case finding)
• Procedures on screening for adults and children both for
pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB, among PLHIV, in
targeted TB high risk populations or settings and health
care workers
• Procedures on contact tracing for household contacts of
both DS and DR-TB cases every six months using TB signs
and symptoms and CXR annually for two years.
