1. A pole, d.c.generator has a wave-wound armature with 792 conductors.

The flux per pole is

0.0121 weber. Determine the speed at which it should be run to generate 240 V on no load.

Eg = PΦNZ/60A

Given the values, wave-wound armature , A=2, Z=792, Φ=0.0121 weber. Eg=240 Volts

N, speed of armature = Eg*60*A / PΦZ

=(240*60*2) / (4*0.0121*792)

= 751.3 rpm.

2. Calculate the flux per pole in 4-pole generator 722 armature conductors generating 500 V
when running at 1000 r.p.m. when the armature is (a) lap connected and (ii) wave
connected.

Given the values are P=4, Z=722, Eg=500 V, N=1000 rpm

Φ = Eg*60*A / PNZ =( 500*60*4)/ (4*100*722) = 0.0415 weber.(lap connected)

Φ = Eg*60*A / PNZ =( 500*60*2)/ (4*100*722) = 0.02078 weber.(wave connected)

3. A shunt generator delivers 450 A at 230 V and the resistance of the shunt field and armature
are 50 ohm and 0.33 ohm respectively. Calculate the generated emf.

armature, series and shunt filed resistance of 0.05 ohm, 0.03 ohm and 250 ohm respectively.
Calculate the generated emf and armature current. Allow 1 V per brush for contact drop.
