Admissions Schedule
for International Students

Fall Semester 2023


Fall 2023 Admission Schedule
1) Online Application: April 10 (Mon.) 10:00 ~ April 21 (Fri.) 16:00 (KST)

2) Required Documents Submission: April 10 (Mon.) 10:00 ~ April 28 (Fri.) 16:00 (KST)

* All the required documents must arrive at the Korea University GSIS Administration Office
by the designated deadline. Please keep in mind that late delivery of any required
documents WILL NOT be accepted for any reason.

3) Admission Result Announcement through Email: June 9 (Fri.) (Expected)

Majors and Degree Programs


◆ Master’s Degree Program

1. Name of Degree and Major


Master of Arts (M.A.) in International Studies (International Commerce)
Master of Arts (M.A.) in International Studies (International Development & Cooperation)
Master of Arts (M.A.) in International Studies (International Peace & Security)
Master of Arts (M.A.) in International Studies (Area Studies)
Master of Arts (M.A.) in International Studies (Korean Studies)

* All the Master’s Degree Program students will choose their specific major in the beginning of 3rd semester.
If possible, please state a major you wish to focus on at the moment and describe your academic plan and goals in
your Statement of Purpose(SOP) as detailed as possible.

2. Two Options: Thesis Track or Non-Thesis Track


Students who seek to be granted a Master’s Degree must choose either the thesis track or the non-thesis track
in the beginning of 3rd semester, and fulfill all the criteria required for graduation.

※ All international students will be automatically enrolled in the National Health Insurance from the
beginning of their first semester until graduation.

※ KU GSIS does NOT disclose information related to admission decisions such as eligibility of
each applicant, content of evaluation, and the reason of rejection or disqualification.

Admission Acceptance and Tuition Payment


• Until Early July (for fall semester)

 Please decide whether to accept KU GSIS admission and send us the Admission Acceptance Form.

 Tuition payment schedule will be separately announced afterwards.

• Off Campus

 There are quite a lot of private student accommodations called Goshitel near the campus. These accommodations
vary widely in terms of room size, rate, meals, cleaning, and laundry services. Prices range from approximately
₩350,000 to ₩700,000 per month, and the average price is about ₩500,000. For more detailed information,

 Moreover, general information on housings in Seoul is also available at the Seoul Global Center website,

 Homestay Korea (http://homestaykorea.com) can put students in touch with families willing to host for a homestay
student, and reservations are available in English.

Apply for Visa Issuance

• Late July ~ August (for fall semester)

• Late January ~ February (for spring semester)

 Document for Student Visa(D-2): KU GSIS will issue the Certificate of Admission(표준입학허가서) and send it
by email and post after tuition payment of every newly admitted student is completed.

 Application for Student Visa(D-2) Issuance: Please apply for a Student visa(D-2) at Korean Embassy or Consulate
in your country before arriving in Korea.

Orientation
• Last week of August (for fall semester)

• Last week of February (for spring semester)


 Orientation session will be held about one week before the semester begins.

 Briefings will be made on course requirements and registration, and immigration-related information.
Scholarships for KU GSIS International Students

Process are automatically considered as a candidate for International Students Scholarship.

Scholarship awards for the first semester will be decided according to the admission
score ranked by KU GSIS Admission Committee and announced upon the notice of the
admission result, in June(for fall semester) or in December(for spring semester).

As for the subsequent semester, selection will be made by the Committee of Graduate
School of International Studies based on the previous semester’s GPA(Grade Points
Average) ranking among those who, at least, satisfy the minimum qualification
requirements each semester.
Selection
Process Selection Priority for students of the same rank

The selection is made according to the following requirements


(priority given from A to C) if there are students of the same rank.

A) Those who acquired more credits in the previous semester;


B) Those who acquired more credits in core and core elective courses;
C) Those who have more total credits. However, if the priority cannot be determined,
It will be decided by the Chair of the Committee of Graduate School of International Studies.

1. Students must complete at least 9 credits of courses except foreign language classes
and internships in the previous semester, and receive GPA(Grade Points Average) of 4.0
or higher in order to be considered as a scholarship candidate.

Scholarship 3. In order to receive scholarship for the third semester, students must complete at least
Renewal 18 credits in total and take all the core and core elective courses except for “Thesis
Research Ⅰ” by the second semester. If a student does not satisfy the above requirements,
he or she will not be eligible for the scholarship not only for the third semester but also
for the fourth semester.
