EQUATION AND VICE VERSA
Name of the Learner:_________________________ Section: _____________

I. Learning Competency: Determines the relationship between the measures of

inscribed angles and its intercepted arcs. (M10GE- IId-5)
II. Key Concepts

Inscribed Angles and Intercepted Arcs

An inscribed angle is an angle whose vertex in on a circle and whose sides

contain chords of the circle. The arc that lies in the interior of an inscribed angle and
has endpoints on the angle is called the intercepted arc.

Theorems on Inscribed Angles

If an angle is inscribed in a circle, then the measure of this angle equals one-
half the measure of its intercepted arc (or the measure of the intercepted arc is twice
the measure of the inscribed angle.

Corollary
1. An angle inscribed in a semicircle is a right angle.

S
NTE intercepts NSE. If NSE is a semicircle,
then NTE is a right angle.

2. Angles inscribed in the same arc or congruent arcs of a circle (or congruent
circles) are congruent.

PIO and PLO intercept PO. Since PIO O

and PLO intercept the same arc, then the P
two angles are congruent.

Figure 1 Figure 2 Figure 3

In Figure 1, LAP is an inscribed angle and its intercepted arc is LP. The
center of the circle is in the interior of the circle.

In Figure 2, TOP is an inscribed angle and its intercepted arc is TP. One side
of the angle is the diameter of the circle.

In Figure 3, CGM is an inscribed angle and its intercepted arc is CM. The
center of the circle is in the exterior of the circle.

Exercises 1
Direction: In the figure below, CE and LA are diameters of N. Use the figure to
answer the following.
L
1. Name all inscribed angles in the figure.
C

2. Which inscribed angles intercept the following arcs?

a. CL c. LE

b. AE d. AC

B. Finding the Measure of the Inscribed Angle and its Intercepted Arc.

Example: AB is a diameter of R. If m BAC = 150 and A

E
m AD = 800, find the measure of the following.
R
a. m ABD c. m BDC
D
b. m ACD d. m BC B
C
Solutions:

1
a. m ABD = (m AD) c. m BDC = m BAC
2
1
m ABD = (80) m BDC = 150
2
m ABD = 400

b. m ACD = m ABD d. m BC = 2(m BAC)

m ACD = 400 m BC = 2(15)
m BC = 300
Exercises 2
Direction: In the figure below, CE and LA are diameters of N. Use the figure to
answer the following. L

2. If m 1 = 26, what is the measure of each of the 5
following arcs? A
a. CL c. AE

Guide Question: How do you solve the measure on the inscribed angle? How about
the measure of the intercepted arc?
Activity 2: Half, equal, or twice as?
Direction: Use the figure to answer the following questions.

1. Which inscribed angles are congruent?
