Inputs:
Host specification - since the Windows Server 2022 Datacenter and Standard editions are licensed by
physical core, this tool requires information about the number of servers/hosts, the number of CPUs per
server, and the number of cores per CPU.
Max # of OSEs/VMs per host - the maximum number of Operating System Environments (OSEs) that
will be running
on one server. Note that License Mobility across Server Farms is not available for Windows
Server; therefore, each of the hosts must be licensed for the maximum load in an environment where
OSEs/VMs are expected to move between hosts on a regular basis.
If you need to calculate the number of
Standard Edition licenses for such environment, adjust this value accordingly.

This tool takes into account the following:


All physical cores must be licensed.
A minimum of 8 core licenses is required for each physical processor and a minimum of 16 core
licenses is required for each server.
Standard Edition provides rights for up to 2 Operating System Environments or Hyper-V containers
when all physical cores in the server are licensed. For each additional 1 or 2 OSEs, all the physical
cores in the server must be licensed again.
Cost of core licenses sold in packs of two (two-core packs).
The maximum number of 64-bit sockets is equal to 64 (for both editions).
This tool does not cover:
Client Access Licenses (CALs) requirements.
Cost of core licenses sold in 16-packs.
