The total dead and live load on the mat is 120*10° KN. The mat is placed over a saturated clay having a unit weight of 18.87 kN/m? and C,= 134 kN/m’. Given that D, = 1.52 m determine the factor of safety against bearing capacity failure. Fig. 1 2. From the plate load test (plate dimensions 0.3m*0.3m) in the field, the coefficient of subgrade reaction of a sandy soil is determined to be 20000 kN/m*. What will be the value of the coefficient of subgrade reaction on the same soil for a foundation with dimensions of 10 m * 10 mand 8 m * 12.5 m? 3. Fig.2 shows raft foundation 16m*18m. All columns have the square cross section 500mm*500mm. the allowable soil pressure is 100 kN/m?. The working (unfactored) column loads are shown on the Figure. Design the reinforced concrete raft foundation by using the approximate rigid method. Scanned with CamScanner 4. If the soil under the raft in the previous problem has ultimate bearing capacity 300 kN/m’, Poisson's ratio 0.3, Young’s modulus 200 Mpa while the reinforced concrete of the raft has Young’s modulus 25000 MPa and poisson’s ratio 0.2. Divide the raft in Fig. 2 into 5 strips in the vertical direction. For the middle strip by using the flexible approximate method (ignore the stiffeness of the upper structure, Le use the stiffeness of the raft only) determine the followings: a. Bending moments, b. Shear forces, and ¢. Deflections. d. Use the results obtained to design the upper and lower reinforcement in the vertical direction, 5. Use the data in problem 6 to determine the contact pressure at the corners of the raft as shown in Fig.3. Use the rigid method. Scanned with CamScanner If the soil under the raft in the previous problem has ultimate bearing capacity 300 kN/m”, Poisson’s ratio 0.3, Young’s modulus ee 200 Mpa while the reinforced concrete of the raft has Young's modulus 25000 MPa and poisson’s ratio 0.2.
