What I Need to Know

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help
you master ICT. The scope of this module permits it to be used in many
different learning situations. The language used recognizes the diverse
vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard
sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can be
changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.
The module is divided into two lessons, namely;

 Lesson 1 – Uses the advanced features of a slide presentation.


 Lesson 2 – Create multimedia presentation.

After going through this module, you are expected to:


1. Define the advanced features in slide and multimedia presentation.
2. Create multimedia presentation.
3. Share and show how to create multimedia presentation.

ADVANCED FEATURES OF
1 A SLIDE PRESENTATION

Learning is and is more effective if one uses multimedia features


rather than using text alone.

What is It

A. What is a slide? A multimedia?


A slide is a page of a presentation created with software such as
PowerPoint or OpenOffice Impress. A Presentation is composed of several
slides.

Multimedia, on the other hand, is defined as media that combines


different content forms such as text, audio, images, animation, and video to
get a multi-faceted finished product.

Multimedia Presentation is an effective tool used in different fields such


as business and education. It allows faster and easier grasping of ideas and
concepts.

B. Navigating the Slide Presentation Software

1. The Ribbon Bar

Contains different tabs that reveal set of controls specific to that tab. For
example, in Microsoft PowerPoint, Home tab is where you begin to format a
slide. Insert tab is where you insert various types of objects. Design tab
where you edit the look of your slide.

2. The Current Slide

It is basically the slide you are currently working on.

3. The Status Bar
It tells you the slide that is currently displayed.

C. Basic Tools and Functions of a Slide Presentation Software

a. Home
It is basically your starting point in creating your presentation. This
is your main tab when changing the layout of your slides and adding text,
pictures and media.

b. Themes
It is where you change the themes of your slides. This is where you
edit the look of your presentation.

c. Transitions

This is where you add effects to your presentation when you are
moving from slide to slide. For example, you can have the next slide fade
into the current slide or appear from the side of the screen.

d. Animations
This adds entrance and exit effects to the text that appears on the
slide. This is important when you need to emphasize a certain point during
your presentation as it allows you to select which bullet you want to
display first.

D. Creating a Multimedia Presentation

1. How to Insert and Edit Text

Inserting text

Step 1: Click the text box where you want to insert text.

Step 2: View thumbnail images of the slides in your PowerPoint

Presentation. Click the Slides tab to display all the slides in your
presentation.

Step 3: Click inside the text placeholder. Highlight the text you want to

edit.

Drag the cursor across a line of text to select it.

Step 4: Type the new text. The text you type replaces the selected text.

2. How to Insert and Edit Graphics


Inserting Graphics
Step 1: Click SmartArt Graphics.

Step 2: Choose a SmartArt Graphics needed from the different categories
shown and click OK.

The table below explains the functions of the buttons on these tabs.

Add Shape Adds another shape to the selected
SmartArt graphic.
Add Bullet Adds a bullet at the same level as the
selected text.
Right to Changes the direction of the chosen element.
Left
Layout Enables you to change the hierarchy of the
selected component.
Promote Promotes the level of the selected
component.

Demote Demote the level of the selected component.

Text Pane Makes the Text Pane visible so that you can
also edit the text as bullet points.
Layouts Shows more layouts in the same SmartArt
graphic type.
Change Let you change the color combination of the
Colors elements contained in the SmartArt graphic.

SmartArt Provides more styles of the selected SmartArt


Style graphic with change colors and effects.

Reset Resets the graphic to the original SmartArt


Graphic graphic which is helpful if you have resized
elements.

3. How to Insert and Edit Photos


Inserting Photos

Step 1: Select the Insert tab and then click the Pictures command in

the images group.

STEP 2: A dialog box will appear. Locate and select the desired image

file, then click Insert.

Editing Photos

(The goal is crop it to a round shape)

Step 1: Once the image is imported, Picture Tools will get activated
and open up options to format the image. Click on Picture Style and
select the shaped desired. In this case, Oval is selected.

Step 2: The picture gets cropped into the shape chosen.

4. How to Create Hyperlink


How to Hyperlink Files outside Slide Presentation

a. Right-click the selected text or image, then click Hyperlink.


b. The Insert Hyperlink dialog box will appear.
c. On the left side of the dialog box, click Place in the
Document.

d. A list of other slides in your presentation will appear. Click
the name of the slide you want to link to.

e. Click OK. The text or image will now be a hyperlink to the


slide you selected.

To insert a hyperlink to another file:

a. Right-click the selected text or image, then click Hyperlink. The


Insert Hyperlink dialog box will appear.
b. On the left side of the dialog box, click Existing File or
Webpage.

c. Select the desired file. Click OK. The text or image will now be a
hyperlink to the file you selected

5. How to Add Basic Animation

To add an animation effect to an object, do the following:


a. Select the object you want to animate.

b. On the Animations tab, in the Animation group, click the More
button, and then select the animation effect that you want.

6. How to Add Audio and Video


a. Click Insert tab. Select Video/Audio.

b. You can insert a movie stored locally on your PC by selecting Video on


My PC from the drop-down menu.

c. You can also insert audio stored locally on your PC by clicking Audio
on My PC.

d. Select the movie/ audio file you want to insert into your presentation.
Then click Insert.

E. Converting the Slide Presentation into a Multimedia Video File

1. Create your presentation.


2. Save the presentation.
3. On the File menu, click Save & Send.
4. Under Save & Send, click Create a video.
5. To display all video quality and size options, under Create a video,
click the Computer &HD Displays down arrow.
6. Do one of the following:
 To create a video with high quality, yet a large file size, click
Computer &HD Displays.
 To create a video with moderate file size and medium quality, click
Internet & DVD.
 To create a video with the smallest file size, yet low quality, click
Portable Devices.
7. Click Create Video.
8. In the File name box, enter a file name for the video, browse for
folder that will contain this file, and then click Save.
9. To play your newly-created video, go to the designated folder location,
and then double-click the file.
