Data Exploration Due Tuesday

The document analyzes a dataset showing ice cream sales and daily temperatures for 10 days. [1] It aims to determine the relationship between temperature and sales. [2] Creating a scatter plot reveals higher sales on hotter days and lower sales when cold. [3] Therefore, there is a direct relationship between temperature and number of ice cream sales.

Data exploration due Tuesday

OPTION 1

An example of a data set is the number of ice creams sold by a shop keeper compared to the

temperatures of the day.

Temperature in degrees Celsius Ice cream sales in dollars

14.2 215
16.4 325
11.9 185
15.2 332
18.5 406
22.1 522
19.4 412
25.1 614
23.4 544
18.6 421
22.6 445

The initial questions that I would like to answer include:

a. At what temperature does the ice cream shop sell the highest number of ice creams?

b. At what temperature does the ice cream shop sell the lowest number of ice creams?

c. Does the temperature of the day affect the number of ice cream sales?

d. Is there a direct relationship between the ice cream sales made and the temperature of the

day?

The data I have can help me to answer the questions. The data set shows the sales that have been

made at various temperatures. It could help to determine whether sales are affected by the

temperatures of the day. The data seems to be simple to analyze and understand. By analyzing
the table, I can tell that the highest ice cream sales are made when the temperatures are very

high. I can see patterns emerging from the data set. Ice cream sales seem to be lowest when

temperatures are low and highest when temperatures are high. With this data, I can tell that

temperature of the day affects the number of sales that ice cream shops will make.

The visual of data would be:

I decided to use a scatter plot because it would show a trend in the data relationship. The scatter

plot would help to show whether the sales of ice cream increase or decrease when the

temperature increases. The scatter plot would generate the trend line or the line of best fit. The

trend line would help to make predictions about the data. The scatter plot would help to show

how much the temperature of the day affects the number of sales made by the ice cream shop. It

would be easy to develop the scatter plot given the temperatures of the day and sales that were

made at various temperatures.

The scatter plot revealed something important. It revealed that warmer weather enables ice cream

shops to sell more products. Many people are likely to buy ice cream when it is hot. When it is

cold, people might not purchase ice cream. Those who own ice cream shops should ensure that

they remain open whenever it is too hot. They should expect to make more sales when

temperatures are high. When it is too cold, those who own ice cream shops should not expect to

make high sales. They might decide to perform other activities or sell products are purchased

when it is too cold. They have to conduct research and determine the type of products they could

offer to their customers when it is too cold. For example, they could offer beverages such as

coffee and tea to keep the customers warm.

I think this data set is something I can use for my final project. Based on this data set, I can say

that ice cream sales increase with increasing temperatures, and decrease when temperatures

decrease. There is a direct relationship between the temperature of the day and the number of ice

cream sales made. The correlation between temperature and sales is strong. During summer, ice

cream sales are likely to be high because of hot weather. Ice cream sales can be very low during

winter due to cold weather.
