Slide 1:
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to my presentation, my name is.
Today I’m going to talk about a profitable business industry. In a time
when globalization is sweeping the entire economy, tourism has been
booming on an unprecedented scale, with many countries considering it
as a major income source. That’s why I have decided to choose tourism
as a topic for my presentation.
Slide 2:
Let’s discuss it more, shall we?
Generally, tourism is linked to the idea of people traveling to other
locations, either domestically or internationally, for leisure, social or
business purposes. And, as you may know, tourism is a tertiary industry
(or service industry) meaning that it provides services to other
businesses as well as to final consumers rather than producing tangible
goods. It is also considered to be a wide-ranging industry that
encompasses a variety of business sectors.
Slide 3:
So, what are the sectors within the tourism industry? As you can see
here, I have divided tourism into 5 main sectors.
1. Up first we have transportation, this sector is concerned with helping
tourists to get where they need to go, via the provision of transport. This
may include providing them with the means to get to their intended
holiday destination in the first place but may also include assisting them
with getting around after they arrive at their destination.
Included within this sector are the airline industry, car rental, coach
services, railway…
2. And when we travel to different areas, we need a place to stay, rest,
sleep and unwind right? Therefore, we have the accommodation
industry. In fact, by many definitions, a tourist is only classed as such if
their stay exceeds 24 hours and they use some form of overnight
accommodation. Within this subsection, there are a number of different
components, ranging from the hotel industry to camping, hostels, and
cruises.
3. The third sector is the entertainment industry. Some tourists travel to
new locations in the pursuit of entertainment. Such travelers may be
drawn to entertainment options that are not available in their home
location, or they may simply require more general entertainment, which
would be accessible almost anywhere in the world, as part of their trip.
Entertainment attractions or venues are sometimes the main things
drawing travelers to a particular tourist location. On the other hand,
many other entertainment offerings are set up to capitalize on existing
tourism. For example, we have casinos, theme parks, and shopping
centers,…
4. Moving on, we have the F&B industry. This subsection has an
interesting role within the tourism industry, providing tourists with
essential refreshments at all stages of their travel experience, including
during travel, when spending time in their chosen accommodation, and
when they are out and about exploring the location they have traveled to.
In addition to catering to travelers’ basic requirements, however, the
food and beverage sector also offers them opportunities to socialize,
meet new people and enjoy themselves. Some forms of F&B services
include restaurants, bars and cafes, nightclubs,…
5. Finally, there are also a number of industries that are either directly or
indirectly connected to the tourism industry. These include industries
based on actually connecting customers with travel services, as well as
industries based on providing customers with important information that
can assist them in their travels. Some of the most notable related
industries are travel agents, tour operators, tourism organizations,
financial services,…
Slide 4:
Any nation's tourism industry is one of its most vital sectors. Let’s
explore some of the advantages of tourism presently. First of all, tourism
brings in money. This is probably the main advantage of tourism and the
reason why it has been promoted so much, especially in developing
countries. The income generated can make up a significant proportion of
both private, local, and national incomes.
Furthermore, tourism can bring so many opportunities as it provides
jobs. Tourism can provide a significant source of income for local
communities. As a result, tourism often generates jobs in various fields
like the hospitality and agriculture industries. Tourism also helps to
improve the housing market, which will lead to economic growth and
job opportunities in other industries.
Also, tourism can create promotional values as it can "put a place on the
map." Tourism gives the locality a chance to show itself off and raise its
profile in the world.
Slide 5:
Tourism also has infrastructural advantages as well, it provides a means
and an incentive for investment in infrastructures such as roads, rail
networks, local medical and education facilities.
If the tourism industry is developed, it can provide economic incentives
for a place to preserve, maintain, and regenerate the environment in both
urban and rural settings. Because the destruction of such areas translates
to a decline in tourism.
Last but not least, tourism promotes international connections which can
bring more business and cultural collaborations in the long term. It also
promotes cross-cultural awareness for both locals and tourists and builds
bridges of understanding between cultures.
Beneficial as it is, tourism can have some demerits as well.
Tourism can often cause environmental damage due to risks such as
erosion, pollution, loss of natural habitats, and forest fires. Even if
tourists behave responsibly, the sheer number of them can cause harm.
Besides, the commercialization of culture can undermine the soul of a
tourist destination. Culture clashes are quite problematic too as tourists
often lack respect for local traditions and culture.
That’s the reason why I used the word responsible tourism here. It
means "making better places for people to live in and better places for
people to visit." Responsible Tourism requires that operators, hoteliers,
governments, local people and tourists take responsibility, take action to
make tourism more sustainable so that the disadvantages can be
minimized.
