D. Answer the following questions:-

1. What is a Galaxy?
Ans:- A galaxy consists of millions of stars and the Sun is one of them.
This vast Universe has many galaxies. The Galaxy we belong to is called
the Milky Way.
2. Describe what makes up our Solar system?
Ans:-The Sun and its family of eight planets and pieces of rock and dust,
together form the Solar system .The Eight planets in the Solar system are
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
3. What are giant planets?
Ans:- The planets that are large in size are known as Giant planets. They
are also as Gas Giants. Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar system.
4. What are Stars made up of?
Ans:- Stars are made up of gases and produce heat, light, ultra violet
rays. There are billions of stars in the universe. Our Sun is one of them.
5. What are Constellations? Give two examples.
Ans:- Constellations are collections of bright stars that are visible in the
night sky and form recognisable patterns. For example, Ursa Major
appears as a group of stars in the shape of a great bear . Another
important constellation is Saptharishi.
6. What is a planet?
Ans:- A planet is an object and a member of the Solar system that
revolves around a star like the Sun. There are eight planets in the Solar
system.
7. What is a Satellite?
Ans:- A Satellite is a human made or a natural object that revolves
around a planet or a star like the Sun. Eg:- Moon is the natural Satellite
of the planet Earth.
8. How does the Moon Shine?
Ans:- The Moon does not have the light of its own. It reflects the light of
the Sun.
