 Computer : is an electronic device which contains hardware and
software.
 hardware : Hardware is any part of the computer that has a physical
structure which can be seen, touched and picked up.
 data : is a collection of unprocessed data
 Information : is a data that is processed and conveys meaning to the
users.
 Software : is a set of instructions(programs) that tell the computer how
to perform tasks.
2) What a computer can ?
 A computer can : -
 Accept data (Input)
 Process the data according to specified rules
 Produce information (output)
 Store the information for future use.

3) Mention two basic components of a computer ?


 All computers consist of two basic components; the hardware and
the software.
4) Define the following and give example each of them :-
 Input devices : is any hardware component that allows you to
enter data and instructions into a computer. Examples : keyboard
and mouse
 Output devices : is any hardware component that is used for
displaying the results of data which are processed by computer
system. Examples : speakers and printers
 Processing devices : are the “engine” of the computer. Example
CPU.
5) There are two primary types of software , what are they ?
 Two primary types of software are :-
 System software
 Application software
6) Define system and application software ?
 System software : refers to a program that runs a computer’s
hardware and application programs.
 Application software : is a program or group of programs that direct
the computer to carry out specific tasks.
7) What is an operating system ?
 Operating system : is a computer program that manages all the other
programs on your computer.
8) Mention some examples of os ?
 Some examples of Os include :
 Windows
 Linux
 Mac Os and etc.
9) Differentiate between hardware and software ?
 The difference between hardware and software :-
 Hardware is tangible while software is intangible.
 Hardware cannot perform any task without software. While
The software can not be executed without hardware.
10) Write the abbreviation for these words :-
 RAM : Random Access Memory
 ROM : Read only Memory
 OS : Operating System
 CPU : central processing Unit.
