Moving Parts
1. Crankshaft: It is considered as the
backbone of an engine whose
function is to covert the reciprocating
motion of the piston into rotary
motion with the help of connecting
rod.
2. Flywheel: It is heavy big wheel and
bolted to the rear end of the
crankshaft between the engine and
the transmission. Flywheel stores
energy from the power strokes and
smoothly delivers it to the drive train
of the vehicle and to avoid the rough
running of the engine.
Moving Parts
3. Piston : The piston is a
cylindrical plug that moves up
and down in the engine cylinder
and receives the energy or force
of combustion and transmits
that energy to the crankshaft
through the connecting rod. The
pistons are generally made of
aluminum alloys.
4. Connecting rod: It connects
the piston with the crankshaft.
Moving Parts
5. Cam and Camshaft: It is used for
changing rotary motion into linear
motion. It controls the opening and
closing of the intake and exhaust
valve as required.
2. According to the method of igniting the fuel: a) Spark ignition engine, b) Compression ignition engine
3. According to the number of strokes per cycle: a) Four stroke engine, b) Two stroke engine
4. According to the cycle of operation: a) Otto cycle, b) Diesel cycle, c) Dual cycle
