AIM 2022 Theme

INVESTMENTS IN SUSTAINABLE
INNOVATION FOR A THRIVING
FUTURE
The global economy has unquestionably been experiencing
a massive transition due to a variety of reasons, including
the universal adoption of digital technologies — a trend that
is drastically changing the way organizations do business.
Moreover, the remarkable shift in consumer expectations,
as well as the prospect of greater economic benefits, are
driving digitization and digital transformation.

Ultimately, these trends are reshaping local economies

worldwide in a way that creates a real need for a
global platform that brings together leaders, investors,
policymakers, international organizations, and academics
to provide new insights and showcase their expertise —
with the aim of helping organizations navigate their way
towards a thriving future.

As a revealing example, it’s now becoming clear that FDI & FPI stakeholders all over the world currently need a regular,
inspiring platform that provides essential insights into how to identify and attract high-value investment projects and how
to maximize the benefits of FDI & FPI for local economies.

What's more, considering the increasing role being globally played by Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs), it’s becoming
crucial to discuss, promote and enhance the various ways that should be adopted by IPAs to create a conducive climate for
investing in sustainable innovation for a thriving future. With this in mind, it’s high time for both investors and IPAs of the
host countries to rethink FDI’s success factors and to join hands to raise the bar to harbor investments that are there to
stay and flourish.

The event’s SMEs Pillar recognized small & medium enterprises' contributions to the global economy and empowered
them to continue playing a vital part in achieving global growth and progress. The FPI Pillar enabled investors to diversify
their portfolios, establish contacts with local organizations, and gain access to investment flows. The Startups Pillar
empowered investors to find new investment opportunities while helping entrepreneurs acquire venture capital and seed
funding for their startups. The Future Cities Pillar rallied up the support of governments and investors to maximize the
potential of innovation, technologies, and smart city solutions, while also recognizing smart city solutions providers from
across the globe for their outstanding projects that are aligned to achieve increased operational efficiency & productivity,
sustainability, and economic growth. The 50 Projects Initiative Pillar focused on supporting the UAE's 'Projects of the
50' initiative that covers numerous key sectors including Economy, Entrepreneurship, Advanced Skills, Digital Economy,
Space, and Advanced Technologies.

Overall, the Annual Investment Meeting 2022 comprised a broad diversity of activities and features that worked together
to achieve the event’s theme of “Investments in Sustainable Innovation for a Thriving Future”.

MESSAGE FROM THE UAE MINISTER

OF ECONOMY
Over the past 10 years, the FDI inflows into the UAE have
increased by 116%, while the total FDI balance for the same
period grew by 113%.
Meanwhile, the UAE’s outward FDI outflows amounted to
approximately USD 22.5 billion in 2021, which is a 19.1%
annual growth, while growing by 789% over the past 10
years.

Despite the impact of the pandemic on trade & investment

exchanges and the related challenges, the UAE set an
example by showing how every challenge can be turned into
an opportunity.

We attribute the achievement to the pioneering steps and

initiatives implemented by the UAE, during the past period,
to develop its economic sectors and achieve qualitative
shifts in its investment climate’s policy — according to a
new, more flexible, more sustainable economic model and
more openness to global markets, keeping abreast of future
trends and technologies.

The most important among the initiatives launched in this

regard is the event called “Investopia”, which aimed at

sectors to create investment opportunities. It has laid the

MINISTER OF STATE FOR
FOREIGN TRADE
The UAE accounted for 45.4% of the total foreign direct
investment inflows to the West Asia region. We also moved up
6 positions globally in the FDI outflow in 2020, ranking 13th
globally.

These high global rankings are strong indicators that the

UAE is a solid and resilient nation, which is at the forefront of
economic transformation and sustainability. We attribute these
achievements to numerous factors, such as stability, modern
infrastructure, effective economic policy, new business-friendly
regulations, the UAE’s strategic location as a global crossroads,
free transfer of profits, revenue, and assets, strong legal system,
low customs tariff for nearly all imported goods, zero income tax
— and a diverse, modern, tolerant society.

As we build the economy of the next 50 pursuing an aggressive

reform agenda, we are set out to achieve even bigger FDI goals
by following clearly defined strategies.

Today there is an urgent need for governments and the
private sector to swiftly adapt to the changing market
conditions that take into account the digital transformation.
The session showed that the base of such adaptation would
be the availability of effective economic infrastructure, a
strong educational system that nurtures entrepreneurship

strong government advocacy and policies that promote
entrepreneurship. The workshop emphasized that this will
be achieved through strong partnerships with the private

HEALTHCARE INVESTMENT
ROUNDTABLE
The AIM 2022 hosted a Healthcare Investment Roundtable on March 30th, 2022 in partnership with World Health
Organization, which gathered key players in the global healthcare industry, who shared their inputs, strategies, and visions
to scale up the Healthcare infrastructure across the globe. The renowned participants addressed a variety of aspects
of the local production ecosystems for healthcare investment — such as policy coherence, access to affordable finance,
incentivizing investments, infrastructure development, workforce development, technology transfer, innovation, and
building partnerships. Ultimately, the roundtable achieved numerous objectives, including:

• Exploring the key areas of investment that would bring about significant impact in strengthening
sustainable local production. Delving deeply into the mechanisms that would increase the
engagement of the private sector investment in the local production of quality, safe and effective
health products to improve access.
• Nurturing the existing and new collaborative efforts & partnerships in strengthening sustainable
local production toward addressing the global inequities in the global access to COVID-19 and
other essential health products.

INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION 2022

In 2022, AIM attracted the participation of 352 exhibitors and co-exhibitors from 61 countries. The Annual Investment
Meeting 2022 featured, during its three-day event, all the different industry projects and services that cater to the
investment growth of various participating regions. This focused on promoting Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) and the
effective ways to attract investors to various economic sectors.

Since its inception in 2011, AIM has brought together

thousands of exhibitors and visitors to network, promote
projects, and attract investment in various participating
countries. The EXHIBITION gives opportunities for
governments and private organizations to launch and promote
their projects to a vastly diverse audience. AIM 2022 proved
to be an effective platform through which they promoted
investment opportunities in their countries and regions.

One of the major milestones of the 11th Annual Investment

delegations, investors, regional and international governments
and ministries, visitors, and exhibitors.
