Questionnaire

The document describes the methodology used in a research study. It discusses the research design, population, sampling method, instruments, sources of data, and statistical analysis used. A questionnaire was developed and distributed to 150 students across three local governments in Ilorin, Nigeria. The questionnaire collected personal information and data on food consumption patterns and relationship to the food guide pyramid. Results from the questionnaire will be analyzed using percentage tables and frequencies. The methodology aims to determine food consumption trends and implications for nutritional education in the study location.

CHAPTER THREE

METHODOLOGY

3.1 INTRODUCTION

Research methodology is the process of gathering relevant and suitable information

about identified problems and identifying solutions. This part of the research project is
concerned with the method and structure that will be used in the collecting and analysis of data
required for the project. It will demonstrate the steps that will be taken in the collection and
analysis of data relevant to the research project. To that end, this research project will employ a
survey method that is appropriate for the project.

Furthermore, the study will employ both primary and secondary data sources, with the primary
data source being a questionnaire that will be sent to respondents in the field to elicit
information. The usage of secondary sources will include the utilization of documents such as
textbooks, journals, seminar papers, newspapers, and the internet.

3.2 RESEARCH DESIGN

The plan, structure, and approach for researching the study's problem are referred to as
research design. It is the sequence of steps or techniques that must be followed in order to get
a successful outcome. It's also the model that describes how the objective's variables and
strategy are defined.

The major goal of this study is to determine food consumption patterns in Ilorin metropolis and
their relationship to the food guide pyramid, as well as the implications for nutritional
education.

This chapter discusses the various methods for gathering the data required for this study. The
information was gathered using a questionnaire. A questionnaire is a set of questions that are
asked to persons in order to gather statistically relevant data.
3.3 POPULATION

The participants in this study are students from different schools in Ilorin, Kwara State. The
target demographic, on the other hand, consists of one hundred and fifty (150) people from
each local government in Ilorin Metropolis (Ilorin East, Ilorin South, Ilorin). The students are
used because they are able to discuss their eating habits and comprehend the concept of a food
pyramid. The students are chosen at random.

3.4 SAMPLE AND SAMPLING METHOD

Sample is defined as the portion of the population that has been chosen for the purpose of the
survey interview and is considered to be representative of the entire population. The sample in
this study consists of students from the three local governments in Ilorin metropolis.

Sample Techniques: This is a method of selecting a sample of the population to be surveyed. It

is the process of selecting the sample size for a survey from the entire population.

The sample size simply refers to the fractional representation of the study population, which
ensures that every member of the entire community is represented while also eliciting data for
the research. However, to prevent complication in the results, a sample size of one hundred
and fifty (150) students would be chosen using a random sampling procedure.

A simple random sample is a subset of a statistical population in which each member of the
subset has an equal probability of being chosen. A simple random sample is meant to be an
unbiased representation of a group and takes a small, random portion of the entire population
to represent the entire data set. (Hayes, 2021)

3.5 INSTRUMENT OF THE STUDY

The major goal of this study is to determine food consumption trends in Ilorin metropolis and
their relationship to the food guide pyramid, as well as the implications for nutritional
education. The questionnaire was used as an instrument to collect the data.
A total of 150 questionnaires were delivered among students in Ilorin metropolis. There were
two sections in it. The first section collects information on the respondents' personal data such
as age, gender, religion, sex, residence and level of education whereas section B collects
information on the respondent’s data on the research.

3.6 SOURCES OF DATA

In this study, the researcher employs both questionnaire and oral interview where some
are asked questions as written in the questionnaire and answers are written accordingly.

3.7 VALIDITY OF THE INSTRUMENT

Validity of a research instrument assesses the extent to which the instrument measures what it
is designed (Robson, 2011). It is the degree to which the results are truthful.

The researcher's questionnaire was provided to a some lecturers, and some changes were
made. Finally, it was handed over to the project supervisor, who gave his final consent to
proceed.

3.8 RELIABILITY OF THE INSTRUMENT

The test was given to a group of candidates at the appropriate level. The collection includes 15
candidates who are similar to but not identical to the research sample. Their answers were then
graded. After few days, the same group was given a new questionnaire to fill out. Their
responses were evaluated again, and the results of the two tests were compared using a test-
retest method of reliability.

The dependability coefficient obtained was 0.80, indicating that the two sets of responses were
highly correlated.

3.9 STATISTICAL ANALYSIS

The percentage table, which shows the details of the responses, was primarily used to examine
some of the questionnaire's items.
The replies were converted to analyze scores and frequency, and the table was summarized.

Frequency = Total number of responses x 100

Total number of respondents
