Product Bulletin
NALCO 7541 is a liquid cationic polyacrylamide that is used to emulsify NALSIZE 7542, NALCO’s ASA
sizing agents. The NALSIZE emulsion is prepared by mixing NALCO 7541, or NALCO 7542 and water in
a Nalco Turbine Emulsifier. NALCO 7541 is a unique polymer protected under several United States
Patents and similar International Patents NALCO 7541 produces a stable, cationic ASA emulsion, which
assists in the electrostatic retention of ASA to cellulose.
These properties are typical. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the most current data.

REGULATORY APPROVALS
NALCO 7541 is acceptable under FDA regulation 21CFR 176.170 for use as a component of paper and
paperboard in contact with aqueous and fatty foods. NALCO 7541 is also approved by BGA (BfR
XXXVI). For the complete list of approvals refer to the Regulatory Certifications (RCR) document.
MATERIALS OF COMPATIBILITY
The recommended dosage will vary depending on NALSIZE dosage and water quality. An acceptable
level is 1:1 ratio of NALCO 7541 to NALCO 7542 (as received basis). The ASA emulsion should be kept
at a pH < 5.0. In highly alkaline fresh waters, it may be necessary to increase the NALCO 7541 dose
slightly (up to 1.2:1 ratio) to control the pH below this target. NALCO 7541 is designed to be used only
with and NALCO 7542 and Nalco Turbine Emulsifier. The Nalco sizing system is designed to provide the
best emulsion quality yielding optimum sizing performance. Sizing emulsion temperature should be kept
below 35°C (95°F). Most accounts run a ratio of 0.75-0.80/ 1.0 of NALCO 7541 to NALSIZE ASA.
STORAGE
NALCO 7541 should be stored at temperatures between 5 and 45°C (approximately 40 and 115°F).
Should the product be exposed to freezing temperatures, complete recovery will occur on thawing.
Corrosion-resistant materials are recommended for storage and transfer. Bulk storage tanks should be
constructed of polyethylene or fiberglass. Suggested in mill storage is maximum one year if unopened
and maintained at room temperature.
