INVITATION FOR APPLICATION TO UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE

PROGRAMMES OFFERED AT ARDHI UNIVERSITY FOR THE
ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024
Ardhi University (ARU) is a public academic institution established under the Ardhi
University Charter of 2007. Currently, ARU is a unique institution, being the only one of its
kind in Tanzania and in Africa so far offering integrated training and conducting research in
various matters related to land, the built environment, social-economic as well as other
environmental related disciplines under one roof. Apart from the land and environmental
related disciplines, ARU also offers undergraduate training in areas of Economics;
Community and Development Studies; Information Systems Management; Computer
Systems and Networks, Civil Engineering; Geographical Information Systems and Remote
Sensing; Accounting and Finance as well as Real Estates, Finance and Investments. All these
are offered in twenty-two (22) undergraduate programmes currently running at Ardhi
University. In this regard, Ardhi University is a place where careers are nurtured and high-
profile graduates are produced each year. Our graduates are introduced to practical training
through in-semester fieldworks, industrial trainings and project works throughout their
academic life at the University. This approach does not only impart them with practical
knowledge and skills, but also facilitate easy link and access to the labor market upon
graduating.

Thus, applications for admission to various undergraduate degree programmes at Ardhi

University (ARU) for the academic year 2023/2024 are invited from qualified candidates
who finished form six and diploma levels. As per the TCU Admission Almanac for
2023/24 admission cycle, First Round (which includes the mini and major windows) will
run from 15th June 2023 to 04th August 2023; Second Round will last from 28th August
to 03rd Sept 2023; and the Third Round will run from 25th to 29th Sept 2023. Should
there be any changes, you will be informed accordingly.

All applicants are invited to send their applications directly to the University through an on-
line system using the link http://admission.aru.ac.tz/ or by clicking the online Admission link
accessible in the University website (http://www.aru.ac.tz). Once on the admission page, all
requisite information and guidelines to take an applicant through the application stages are
provided. Applicants are requested to register their names as they appear in their Form Four
certificates; likewise, their index numbers, email address and telephone numbers where
prompted. Applicants are further reminded to use valid telephone numbers and email

addresses which will be used to relay feedback of the admission processes. They should as
well use passwords that they can remember easily.

Undergraduate applicants with Foreign Certificates will be required to use the Equivalence
Number during the application process while those with Diploma qualification will be
required to use Award Verification Number (AVN). Foreign applicants are advised to apply
for the Certificate of Equivalence Translation (with equivalency number) from the National
Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) at https://necta.go.tz/form ; while Diploma
applicants are advised to apply for Award Verification Number and Certificate from The
National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) at
https://tvetims.nacte.go.tz/navs as the necessary inputs for the application process.

All degree programmes at ARU runs for four years except Bachelor of Architecture which
runs for five years; and Bachelor of Arts in Economics; Bachelor of Science in Information
Systems Management; Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems and Networks; Bachelor of
Science in Accounting and Finance; and Bachelor of Arts in Community and Development
Studies (BA CDS) which run for three years each.

1. GENERAL MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

2. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION AT ARDHI UNIVERSITY
A candidate shall be deemed eligible for consideration for admission to a first-degree
programme of Ardhi University if the candidate has obtained:

A. Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (C. S. E. E.) or equivalent, with passes

in FOUR approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of
Secondary Education Examination (A. C. S. E. E.) or equivalent

AND

B. Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (A. C. S. E. E.), with TWO

principal level passes in appropriate subjects, with total points not below 4.0 based on
the following grade to point conversion scale:

i) Before 2014 and 2016 onwards: A = 5; B = 4; C = 3; D = 2; E = 1; and S = 0.5)

where; A, B, C, D, E are principal passes; S is a Subsidiary pass

ii) For 2014 and 2015: A = 5; B+ = 4; B = 3; C = 2; D = 1; and E = 0.5)

where; A, B+, B, C are principal passes; D is a Pass, and E is Subsidiary Pass

OR

C. An appropriate equivalent Diploma such as NACTE Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6)

with at least a GPA of 3.0

NB: Principal level passes and passes in Religious and General studies are not counted.

3. PROGRAMMES AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS BY RESPECTIVE

3.1 SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE, CONSTRUCTION ECONOMICS AND

MANAGEMENT (SACEM)

3.1.1 Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) – Code AR001

i) Direct Entry (Form VI) Qualifications

Two principal passes in any of the following subjects: Advanced Mathematics,
Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Computer Science or Fine Art.

In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary level pass in Advanced

Mathematics or Basic Applied Mathematics at A-level or a minimum of “C”
grade in Basic Mathematics at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications

Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Architecture, Architectural
Technology, Civil Engineering, or Civil and Transportation Engineering with an
average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0

In addition, an applicant must have at least ‘D’ Grade at O – Level or a

Subsidiary pass in Advanced Mathematics or Basic Applied Mathematics at A-
Level

iii) Annual Tuition Fee: TShs 1,100,000/= (for locals) or $ 1,500 for Foreigners

3.1.2 Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (BSc. ID) – Code AR002

i) Direct Entry (Form VI) Qualifications

Two principal passes in any of the following subjects: Advanced Mathematics,
Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Computer Science or Fine Art.

In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary level pass in Advanced

Mathematics or Basic Applied Mathematics at A-level or a minimum of “C”
grade in Basic Mathematics at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications

Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Architecture, Architectural
Technology, Civil Engineering or Civil and Transportation Engineering with an
average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

In addition, an applicant must have at least ‘D’ Grade at O – Level or a

Subsidiary pass in Advanced Mathematics or Basic Applied Mathematics at A-

In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary level pass in Advanced

grade in Basic Mathematics at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications

Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) Architecture, Architectural
Technology, Civil Engineering or Civil and Transportation Engineering with an
average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

In addition, an applicant must have at least ‘D’ Grade at O – Level or a Subsidiary

3.1.4 Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying and Construction Economics (B.Sc.

QS & CE) – Code AR025

i) Direct Entry Qualifications

Two principal level passes in any of the following subjects: Advanced
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics or Accountancy.

In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary pass in Advanced

Mathematics or Basic Applied Mathematics at A-level and a minimum of “D”
grade in Physics at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications

Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Architecture, Quantity
Surveying, Civil Engineering, Civil and Transport Engineering, Civil
Engineering with Community Development with an average of “B” or a
minimum GPA of 3.0.

In addition, an applicant must have at least ‘D’ Grade at O – Level or a

Subsidiary pass in Advanced Mathematics or Basic Applied Mathematics at A-

3.2 SCHOOL OF SPATIAL PLANNING AND SOCIAL SCIENCE (SSPSS)

3.2.1 Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning (BSc URP) – Code AR018

Two principal level passes in any of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry,
Biology, Advanced Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Computer Science,
Commerce or Accountancy.

In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary level pass in Basic

Applied Mathematics at A-level or a minimum of “D” grade in Basic
Mathematics at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications

Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Cartography, Urban Planning,
Urban Design, Physical Planning, Land Use Planning, Urban Transport Planning,
GIS and Remote Sensing, Climate Change Studies, Meteorology, Environmental
Studies/Science, Development Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Disaster
Management or Governance and Development with an average of “B” or a
minimum GPA of 3.0.

In addition, candidates must have a principal pass in O-level or a subsidiary in

Mathematics in ACSEE

3.2.2 Bachelor of Science in Regional Development Planning (B.Sc. RDP) – Code AR016

i) Direct entry (Form VI) Qualification

Two principal level passes in any of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry,
Biology, Advanced Mathematics, Computer Science, Geography, Economics,
Commerce or Accountancy.

In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary level pass in Basic

Applied Mathematics at A-level or a minimum of “D” grade in Basic
Mathematics at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications

Resources Management, Geoinformatics for Natural Resources Management,
Land Use Planning, Climate Change, Meteorology, Land Resources
Management, Rural/Regional Development Planning, Environmental
Studies/Science, Geography and Environmental Studies, GIS and Remote
Sensing, Rural Development [Studies], Economic Planning, Development
Planning and Management, Development Administration and Management,

Mathematics in ACSEE

In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary level pass in Advanced

Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Civil and Transportation Engineering,
Civil Engineering with Community Development, Geography and Environmental
Studies/Science, Rural Development Planning, Development Planning, Climate

A principal pass in Economics and a principal pass in any of the following
subjects: Geography, History, Commerce, Accountancy, Physics, Chemistry or

In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary level pass in Advanced

Mathematics or Basic Applied Mathematics at A-level or a minimum of “D”
grade in Basic Mathematics at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications

Diploma or FTC in Business Administration, Accountancy, Accounting and
Finance, Business Management, Banking and Finance, Business Management
and Administration, Taxation, Economics and Finance, Local Government
Accounting and Finance, Public Sector Accounting and Finance or Economic
Development with an average of ‘B’ or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary level pass in Advanced

Mathematics or Basic Applied Mathematics at ACSEE or at least a ‘C’ grade in
Mathematics and a ‘D’ grade in English Language at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications

Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Maintenance, Land Management
and Valuation or Land Management Valuation and Registration with an average
of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0

iii) Annual Tuition Fee: TShs 1,300,000/= (for locals) or $ 2,100 for Foreigners

3.3.4 Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance (B.Sc. AF) – Code AR022
i) Direct Entry (Form VI) Qualifications
(a) Principal level passes in any two of the following subjects arranged in order of
preference: Commerce, Accountancy, Computer, Economics, Advanced

 Mathematics, Geography, History, Physics, Biology and Chemistry.

AND

(b) A pass in English at Grade “D” or above in the Certificate of Secondary

Education Examination or a pass in English/English Literature at the Advanced
Certificate of Secondary Education Examination.

AND

(c) At least a subsidiary pass in Mathematics or Basic Applied Mathematics at

Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) level or a
grade of ‘D’ or better at O-level in Basic Mathematics.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications

Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Accounting, Business
administration, Banking, Finance, procurement and logistics management,
commerce, public sector accounting, Tax management, auditing and supply chain
management with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

In addition, Candidates must have passed English at Grade “D” or above in the
Certificate of Secondary Education Examination or a pass in English/English
Literature at the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination; and
Mathematics at least a subsidiary pass in Mathematics or Basic Applied
Mathematics at Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination
(ACSEE) level or a grade of ‘D’ or better in Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (O-level)

3.3.5 Bachelor of Science in Geomatics (BSc GM) – Code AR005

i) Direct Entry (Form VI) Qualifications

A principal level pass in Mathematics and a principal level pass in either Physics
or Geography or Chemistry or Computer Science.

In case the second principal level pass is not Physics, the candidate MUST have
at least a subsidiary level pass in Physics at A.C.S.E.E. in addition to the two
principal level passes.

ii) Equivalent qualifications

Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Geomatics or Land Surveying,
Geology, Civil Engineering, Water Resource Engineering, Navigation, Mining
Engineering, Hydrographic Surveying, Geophysics or Cartography or Computer
Science, Computer Engineering, Geosciences, Geographical Information System
(GIS) and Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics with an average of “B” or a
minimum GPA of 3.0.

In addition, equivalent entry applicants MUST have at least grade “C” passes in
both Mathematics and Physics at O-level.

Two principal level passes in any of the following subjects: Advanced
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Computer Science, Biology,
Economics, or Agriculture.

In addition, a candidate MUST have at least a subsidiary level pass in

Mathematics at A.C.S.E.E. or at least a “C” grade at O-level

ii) Equivalent qualifications

Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Diploma in Geomatics or Land

In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary pass in Advanced

Ordinary Diploma in Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering,
Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer

In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary level pass in Advanced

Ordinary Diploma in Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering,
Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer
Networks, Computing and Information Communication, Electrical and
Electronics Engineering, Information Systems and Web Technologies with an
average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. In addition, an applicant must have a
minimum of “C” grade in Basic Mathematics at O-Level.

3.4 SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES (SEES)

3.4.1 Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering (B.Sc. EE) – Code AR009
