User’s Guide
1.1. Getting Started
Thank you for choosing JioFi. JioFi is a Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot device works with Reliance JIO
LTE Network. JioFi allows the users to connect a number of devices to JIO 4G internet via
Wi-Fi at the same time, including laptops, tablets and computers.

1.1.1. Installing and Removing USIM/SD Card

1. Open the back cover and locate SIM card and SD card slot.

2. Slide the SIM/SD tray downwards (OPEN) to lift the tray up. Further insert the SIM/SD

card and slide the tray upwards (LOCK) to secure the tray. Make sure they are placed

properly with the chip facing down.

1.2. Logging In to the Management Page

Login in to the management page where you can set the parameters of JioFi.

Procedure:

1. Open a browser and enter gateway address (like: http://jiofi.local.html) in the address bar.

2. With Enter Key to open the web management page.

3. Enter the Username and Password and click Log In button.

Note: The default username and password of the web management page both are “owner”.

In addition, after log in, you need to change the password.

1.3. Status

1.3.1. Dashboard

Here display all details of the device like Device Details, Connected Devices (You can check

from drop down list), CPU Utilisation, Memory Utilisation. And you can check more info of

these details from the corresponding page.

1.3.2. Network

Here display details on JioFi connection status, device data status and cellular connection

parameters like Operating mode, Operating Band, Bandwidth, Default APN, Signal Strength

etc. Details of various WAN statistics like IP Address and Subnet Mask etc also displayed.

1.3.3. WLAN Network

Here displays the information related to WLAN Network Parameters like SSID (the
configured service), WLAN Operating Mode, Subnet Mask, Gateway IP Address, Host MAC
Address, Wi-Fi Channel Number, Bandwidth, Security Mode etc.

1.3.4. Connected Devices

Here displays the information related to Network Layer connection details like the IP

address, MAC address, Leased Time, Device Type, Status of various connected clients and

Data aggregated of these clients also can be checked.

1.3.5. JioFi Device

Here displays device (Router) related details like Serial Number, IMEI, IMSI, Software version,

Hardware version, Battery level etc.

1.3.6. Utilisation

Here displays details on system performance parameters like Device uptime, CPU

Utilisation, Memory Utilisation, Data Speeds etc.

1.4. Settings

1.4.1. Cellular

1.4.1.1. Network Access Point Name Settings

Default connection type is IPv4 & IPv6, you can choose like IPv4, IPv6 or IPv4/IPv6 from

drop down list.

1.4.1.2. Jio SIM PIN Management

Jio SIM PIN Management provides PIN security settings to prevent unauthorized use of the

USIM card.

1.4.1.3. Turning On or Off PIN Verification

If PIN verification is turned on, you need to enter the PIN only when the JioFi is turned on. If

PIN verification is turned off, no PIN is required.

Choose Settings > Cellular > Jio SIM PIN Management, you can turn on or off the PIN

verification.

Context

 If a PIN is required, enter the correct PIN.

 If you enter your PIN incorrectly three times consecutively, the USIM card is locked

and you must enter the PIN unlock key (PUK).

 If you enter the PUK incorrectly ten times consecutively, the USIM card is locked

permanently. If you cannot enter the correct PIN or PUK, network-associated

functions are unavailable.

 The PIN and the PUK are provided with the USIM card. If you did not receive them

or forgot them, contact your Jio customer care.

Procedure

1. Click Settings > Cellular > Jio SIM PIN Management.

2. From PIN Status, select:

 On: to turn on PIN verification.

 Off: to turn off PIN verification.

3. Enter the correct PIN.

4. Click SAVE button.

1.4.1.4. Changing the PIN

If PIN verification is turned on, you can change the PIN.


Procedure
Click Settings > Cellular > Jio SIM PIN Changes Settings.
1. Enter the current old PIN.

2. Enter a new PIN and confirm new PIN.

3. Click SAVE button.

1.4.1.5. Network Operators

JioFi supports both automatic and manual network registration.


Procedure

1. Click Settings > Cellular > Network Operators.

2. Select Automatic/Manual from drop down list.


 Automatic: JioFi searches for an available network and registers with the network
automatically.
 Manual: You need to search for an available network and register with it manually.

1.4.2. Wi-Fi

The service set identifier (SSID) is a name that identifies a wireless local area network

(WLAN). A wireless client (for example, a computer) can communicate with the JioFi

properly only when they are using the same SSID. To ensure the WLAN security, do not use

the default SSID. You can define an SSID as required.

1.4.2.1. Setting Wi-Fi SSID

Procedure

1. Click Settings > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID).

2. You will see the factory default SSID mentioned above on the device.

3. Input new SSID and Click SAVE button.

Note: Wi-Fi will be restarted after setting success.

1.4.2.2. Setting Channel

Procedure

1. Click Settings > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Settings > Channel Mode

2. You will see the default Channel Mode is Automatic.

3. Select the appropriate channel for your network from Channel mode drop down list.

4. Click SAVE button.

Note: Wi-Fi will be restarted after setting success.

1.4.2.3. Security Mode

Procedure

1. Click Settings > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi Security

2. The default Security mode value is WPA2.

Other security mode introduction:

Option Description

These three security modes are the encryption method with
WPA/WPA2

WPA2

Wireless Encryption You can select TKIP, AES & TKIP+AES for WPA and WPA2.

Option You can input at least 8 digits, 32 digits at most.

3. Input the KEY with right rule.

4. Click SAVE button.

Note: Wi-Fi will be restarted after setting success.

1.4.2.4. Wi-Fi Status

Procedure

1. Click Settings > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi Status

2. Set Wi-Fi Status.

 On: to enable the Wi-Fi Module.

 Off: to disable the Wi-Fi Module.

3. Click SAVE button.

1.4.2.5. SSID Broadcast

If the service set identifier (SSID) broadcast function is enabled, the JioFi broadcasts the

SSID of the wireless local area network (WLAN) facilitating clients' access to the WLAN. The

disadvantage is that unauthorized clients can also access the WLAN. If the SSID broadcast

is disabled, the JioFi does not broadcast the SSID of the WLAN. So the SSID must be

entered manually and correctly from a client before the client accesses the WLAN. This

improves the security of the WLAN.

Procedure

1. Click Settings > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Settings > SSID Broadcast

2. Set SSID Broadcast.

 On: to enable the SSID broadcast.

 Off: to disable the SSID broadcast.

3. Click SAVE button.

Note:

During the process of setting up the WLAN, you can set the SSID broadcast to Enable to

facilitate the access from clients. After the WLAN is set up, set the SSID broadcast to

Disable to improve the security of the WLAN.

1.4.2.6. 802.11 Mode

JioFi supports 2.4GHz (B+G+N) or (B+G) or (G+N) or (B) or (G) or (N).

1.4.2.7. Tx Power

Transmit Power of Wi-Fi can be selected as which you want to. You can select

Automatic/High/Mid/Low from drop down list.

1.4.2.8. WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia)

WMM functionality is enabled in the router for providing QoS to Wi-Fi traffic. You can select

On/Off to enable or disable.

1.4.3. WPS

WPS or Wi-Fi Protected System offers an easy means to connect devices to JioFi. Simply

press the WPS Button on your device, turn on your connecting device such as smartphone,

open Settings, select Wi-Fi and click the WPS option. The WPS option in Wi-Fi settings

allows you to enable or disable the WPS button function on your JioFi.

Note: Please make sure Wi-Fi Status and SSID Broadcast is “ON”, Wi-Fi Security is ‘WPA2’

or ‘WPA/WPA2 or ‘Disable’ and Wireless Encryption Type is ‘AES' or ‘AES+TKIP’ before

enabling the WPS.

1.4.3.1. PBC

The Push Button Configuration (PBC) method allows you to connect your devices to JioFi
by pressing WPS Settings (Wi-Fi) on your device and WPS (PBC) button on your JioFi.

1.4.4. Internet Protocol

Here you can change IP Address Type like Class A/Class B/Class C, and partial settings of

LAN IPV4 Settings. Static IPv4 Address also can be added on this page.

1.4.5. Battery & Power

1.4.5.1. JioFi Performance Details

 Up Time: Time from last power on or reboot till now

 Life Time: Time from first power on till now

Note: Up time will be reset after do factory restore.

1.4.5.2. Battery Saving Settings

JioFi disable the WLAN or network or both when all the following conditions are met: JioFi is

powered by only the battery; the WLAN is enabled; no clients access the WLAN for a period

of time; the idle time exceeds the defined value of Sleep Mode After. To wake up the device,

you can click power key on device then enable the WLAN and network.

 Performance: Never sleep

 LTE Power Save: Disable network

 Wi-Fi Power Save: Disable WLAN

 Battery Save: Disable network and WLAN

Procedure

1. Click Settings > Battery & Power > Battery Save Settings.

2. Choose Battery Saving Mode from drop down list.

3. Choose Sleep Mode After from drop down list.

4. Click SAVE button.

1.4.5.3. Power ON/OFF Schedule Settings

Here you can control the device when to power on and when to power off. Just select

schedule from drop down list and choose the time, click SAVE button.

Procedure

1. Click Settings > Battery & Power > Power ON /OFF Schedule Settings.

2. Choose all related details from drop down list.

3. Click SAVE button.

1.4.5.4. Reboot Settings

Here you can control the device when to reboot. Just select schedule from drop down list

and choose the time, click SAVE button.

Procedure

1. Click Settings > Battery & Power > Reboot Settings.

2. Choose Reboot Secedule/Day/Time from drop down list.

3. Click SAVE button.

1.5.1. User Management

1.5.1.1. Account Management

Here you can input new value in textbox and Click SAVE button to change Username and

Password.

1.5.1.2. Device Management

1.5.1.2.1. Session Timeout

Here you can set the Login timeout, the default value is 5 Minutes that means the

management page will logout automatically in 5 Minutes if you do not do anything. You have

to login again if you want to set the parameters of JioFi.

1.5.1.2.2. GUI Status Refresh Time

Here you can set GUI status refresh time, the default value is 10 seconds that means GUI

will refresh device setting status information automatically.

1.5.1.2.3. System Monitoring Duration

Here you can set system monitoring duration for Utilisation page, the default value is 30

seconds that means GUI will refresh utilisation status of the device automatically for every

30 seconds.

1.5.1.3. Restore Default Settings

You can restore the JioFi to its default. After you restore the JioFi to its default settings, your

personal information will be deleted, and parameters will be restored to factory default

values.

1.5.1.4. Reboot

Here you can reboot the JioFi by click REBOOT button.

1.5.1.5. Connection Address & Network Health Monitor

JioFi supports Network Health Monitor for improving user experience by applying proactive

monitoring of possible failures, and provide overall better experience to end user of the

JioFi.

1. Choose Administration > User management > Connection Address & Network Health

Monitor > Network Health Monitor.

2. Select:

 On: to enable network health monitor.

 Off: to disable network health monitor.

1.5.2. Software Upgrade

1.5.2.1. Software Details

Here JioFi allow you to check new version online, if there is a software version you can

upgrade.

Procedure

4. Click Administration > Software Upgrade > Software Details.

5. Click CHECK FOR UPGRADE button.

6. A window will pop up, please accept message and click Upgrade.

7. Wait until upgrade successfully, please click OK to reboot the device.

Note: If there is no new version, a window also will pop up to inform.

Required minimum battery level for FOTA is 25%.

1.5.2.2. Software Upgrade

Procedure

1. Obtain new Software file from operator and save it in the host computer.

2. Click Administration > Software Upgrade > Software Upgrade

3. Click button to select the new Software file stored in the host computer, then click

UPGRADE button.

Note: When upgrade is done, device need to restart to use.

Required minimum battery level for local upgrading is 15%.

1.5.2.3. Backup & Restore

It provides options for taking Backup of the Current Router configuration and restore the

configuration with a saved backup.

1.5.3. IP Address Filter

The function to filter IP addresses in the wireless local area network (WLAN), it can be used

to disallow or allow the user access to the specific internet services.

1.5.3.1. Enable/Disable IP Address Filter

Procedure

1. Choose Administration > IP Address Filter > IP Address Filtering.

2. Select:

 On: to enable IP Address Filter.

 Off: to disable IP Address Filter.

1.5.3.2. IP Address Filter Allow

Procedure

1. Choose Administration > IP Address Filter > IP Address Filtering > Filtering Mode.

2. Select Allow from drop down list.

3. Click Add New button, and input the IP addresses that you want to allow, such as:

115.239.210.26

4. Click SAVE button.

5. Open a browser and enter the IP address (115.239.210.26), only this IP can be opened,

other IP should not be opened.

1.5.3.3. IP Address Filter Disallow

Procedure

1. Choose Administration > IP Address Filter > IP Address Filtering > Filtering Mode.

2. Select Disallow from drop down list.

3. Click Add New button, and input the IP addresses that you want to restrict, such as:

115.239.210.27

4. Click SAVE button.

5. Open a browser and enter the IP address that disallowed (115.239.210.27) in the

address bar. It should not be opened, other IP should can be opened.

1.5.4. URL Filter

The function to filter URL in the wireless local area network (WLAN), it can be used to

restrict the user access to the specific internet services.

NOTE: Please input the domain that you want to filter, for example if you want to filter

Google then you need to put http://www.google.com or https://www.google.com, other

format URL cannot be filtered.

1.5.4.1. Enable/Disable URL Filter

1. Choose Administration > URL Filter > URL Filtering > Filtering Status.

2. Select:

 On: to enable URL Filter.

 Off: to disable URL Filter.

1.5.4.2. URL Filter Allow

1. Choose Administration > URL Filter > URL Filtering > Filtering Mode.

2. Select Allow from drop down list.

3. Click Add New button, and input the URL that you want to allow. Such as:

https://www.google.com.

4. Click SAVE button.

5. Open a browser and enter the URL that allowed (https://www.google.com) in the

address bar. It should can be opened. In addition, other domain URL cannot be

allowed.

1.5.4.3. URL Filter Disallow

1. Choose Administration > URL Filter > URL Filtering > Filtering Mode.

2. Select Disallow from drop down list.

3. Click Add New button, and input the URL that you want to disallow. Such as:

https://www.youtube.com.

4. Click SAVE button.

5. Open a browser and enter the URL that disallowed (https://www.youtube.com) in the

address bar. It should cannot be opened. In addition, other domain URL can be

allowed.

1.5.5. Connected Devices Filter

You can control and manage the clients that access the wireless local area network (WLAN)

to improve the security performance of the WLAN.

1. Choose Administration > Connected Devices Filter.

2. From Connected Devices List to add a client to Whitelist or Blacklist.

 Whitelist : If the MAC address of a client is listed in Whitelist, the client is allowed

to connect to the JioFi over the WLAN.

 Blacklist : If the MAC address of a client is listed in Blacklist, the client is prohibited

from connection to the JioFi over the WLAN.

Note: Whitelist and Blacklist can not be enabled at the same time, only one mode can be

enabled, please make sure yourself can through the filter. If ACS added any MAC in Mac

filtering list, user is not able to modify/delete that MAC.

1.5.6. UPnP & Port Forwarding

Your JioFi has enabled with certain security features to prevent malicious programs or
hackers accessing the device or network. However certain end user application like
PlayStation, Xbox, DVR and so on may requires to access certain ports over the Internet to
support multiplayer gaming and other services. To cater such needs, UPnP & Port
Forwarding features can be used.

The Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) service realizes intelligent connection between two
UPnP devices using port forwarding. UPnP devices can obtain IP addresses automatically
and access the Internet dynamically.
Procedure
1. Choose Administration > UPnP & Port Forwarding > UPnP > UPnP Status.

2. Select:

 Enable: to enable the UPnP service.

 Disable: to disable the UPnP service.

3. Click SAVE button.

Post requisites
A computer that runs the Windows XP operating system is used as an example to describe
how to enable the UPnP service on a client.
1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows

Components.

2. Select Networking Services and click Details.

3. Select UPnP User Interface to enable the UPnP service.

4. Click OK.

1.5.6.2. Port Forwarding

It allows remote computers (for example, computers on the Internet) to connect to a


specific computer or service within a private local-area network.
Procedure
1. Choose Administration > UPnP & Port Forwarding > Port Forwarding.

2. Select:

 Enable: to enable the Port Forwarding service.

 Disable: to disable the Port Forwarding service.

3. After enable Port Forwarding, click Add New to add the new rule.

4. Select connected devices from drop down list, then fill in Name, MAC Address, Local

Port, Wan Port, Status by manually.

Note: Local Port and WAN port cannot be repeated.


5. Click SAVE button.

6. Start the server on the device that added the Port Forwarding list.

Note:
The server includes Web server, ftp server, Web camera server etc.
1. Access the device started server with the other terminal connected Internet through

WAN IP address with WAN port to the device started server. Such as:

http://183.42.114.82:8080

2. The server can be accessed successfully.

1.5.7. Storage

It allows the other wireless devices (such as mobile phone) can be connected to JioFi using
Wi-Fi, and access to the SD card content.
In order to make sure you enjoy this feature better, we recommend strongly you use it with
Google Chrome, Fire fox, and Safari browser.

1.5.7.1. The file format Storage supports

1.5.7.2. Upload File

You can upload file to SD card from computer or mobile phone.


1. Choose Administration > Storage to enter Storage page.

2. Press the Upload button.

3. Select the file you want to upload to SD card.

4. Press the Start button on the pop up window to start uploading the file.

5. You can find the file in the corresponding directory.

Note:

The file will be uploaded to the folder created automatically with named rule Year. Month in

All Files directory if you are locating root directory or you are locating other directory now,

such as: Document, Audio, Video, Image, or Package.

1.5.7.3. Download File

You can download file from SD card.


1. Choose Administration > Storage to enter Storage page.

2. Click on the right of the file you want to download to download it.

1.5.7.4. New Folder

To New a folder in SD card.


1. Choose Administration -> Storage to enter Storage page.

2. Find New Folder button.

3. Input the name of file, and click Submit.

4. It will pop up to prompt “Folder creation success!”


Note:
The new folder created will locate in the folder created automatically with named rule Year.
Month in All Files root directory if you are locating other directory currently to new a folder,
such as: Document, Audio, Video, Image, or Package.

1.5.7.5. Search the file

You can find the file you want to get quickly with this feature.
1. Choose Administration > Storage to enter Storage page.

2. Find the search Icon on the right of Upload button.

3. Input the file name in the textbox.

4. Press Enter Key on PC to get the file you wanted.

Note:

You can search the file with Fuzzy query rule. For example:

 Input the search condition in textbox with *.txt, then all .txt files will be displayed.

 Input the search condition in textbox with 1*23. To meet this combination rule records

will be displayed.

Note: * code indicates one or more characters, and it can be placed anywhere in search

condition.

 Input the search condition in textbox with 1?23. To meet this combination rule records

will be displayed.

Note: “?”code indicates one character, and it can be placed anywhere in search condition.

 Input the search condition in the textbox with keyword such as 1234, then all files that

contain 1234 characters will be displayed.

1.5.7.6. Rename the File or Folder

1.7.1. Clients Cannot Access the Internet Properly

Procedure

1. Check that clients are connected to the JioFi properly.

2. Check that the JioFi is powered on properly.

3. Check that the JioFi is in a location covered by communication networks and that the

signal strength is strong.

4. When the JioFi is used for Internet access, the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) user name

and password must be set correctly. Check that the PPP user name and password are

correct. For details, see Settings > Cellular > Network Access Point Name Settings.

5. Check that the network adapters of the clients are working properly.

6. Contact Jio customer care if the problem persists.

1.7.2. Clients Cannot Access the WLAN Properly

Procedure

1. Check whether there are potential interference sources or shielding objects near the

JioFi. If any, adjust the placement of the JioFi

2. Check and record the settings of the following parameters on the clients and the JioFi:

SSID, Encryption mode, and security key. The encryption mode and the security key on

the clients must match those set on the JioFi. Otherwise, change the setting on the

clients

1.7.3. Login username and password is forgotten

1. Long press Reset button for 1 second to restore the default setting

2. Enter the default username and password both are owner to login web management.

1.7.4. Wi-Fi Key Is Forgotten

1. Log in to the management page and obtain the current Wi-Fi key. For details, see

Setting the WLAN Key.

2. Long press Reset button for 1 second to restore the default settings. Check the

relevant label on the JioFi to obtain the default Wi-Fi key.

1.7.5. Multi-Network IP Address Conflict Occurs

When multiple types of Internet connections are used simultaneously on the client, such as
physical network adapter and Wi-Fi, inserting the JioFi into the client may result in IP
address conflict across multiple networks.

Solution: Disable other network devices or disconnect other Internet connections from the
client, and then restart JioFi.

1.7.6. JioFi's Data Services Are Blocked by Some Anti-virus

Software

Some anti-virus software (for example, Bitdefender 2010) will block the JioFi's RNDIS port.

Solution: Upgrade the relevant anti-virus software to its latest version. If the problem
persists, disable the software's firewall.

1.7.7. What Can I Do If the Network Connection Is Frequently

Interrupted?

Procedure

1. Check the network signal strength. If the signal is weak, move the JioFi somewhere with

better reception.

2. Visit other websites to check whether the issue lies within a particular site.

3. Close all other applications that require network connections.

4. Contact Jio customer care if the problem persists.

1.7.8. What Can I Do If I Cannot Open Web Pages After a

Network Connection Is Set Up?

Procedure

1. Re-set up a dial-up Internet connection.

2. Check that the computer is not infected with viruses.

3. Check that the APN user name and password in the profile management settings are

correct. For details, contact Jio customer care.

4. Check that network connection has not been blocked by a firewall.

5. Restart your computer, and re-set up a dial-up Internet connection.

1.7.9. What Can I Do If the Icons That Indicate No Signals and

No Service Are Displayed?

1. Check that the JioFi is in an area with good reception. For details, contact Jio customer

2. Check that you have subscribed to network services for your USIM card, and that there

is no outstanding balance. For details, contact Jio customer care.

2. Check the network standard used by the JioFi. The available network access rate varies

1.7.11. Cannot login Web Management Page

 Disconnect other network connections, such as an Ethernet or Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi)


connection.

 Clear the cookies and caches of IE browsers.

 Close all IE browsers and Open again.

 Check the name and password of owner is correct.

 Remove and then insert the JioFi, or restart the computer.

1.7.12. The file displays 0 B after finish uploading on some

Android device

If you find the file name change to follow format with % 20 automatically, and the file size is

0 B on some Android device.

For example: the original file name is “IMG 20130219 135238.jpg”,

It is changed the file named “IMG%2020130219%20135238.jpg” after finish uploading to

Storage.

Note: it usually occurs in the file name with the space.

Solution: Please change the file name without the space, and try to upload again.
