Comparatives and Superlatives


The comparative form of adjectives and adverbs compares two people, places or
things.
With adjectives, add er to most one-syllable words and some two-syllable words
(ends with y). In other words, place more before the positive form.
E.g. Mary is smarter than Jill.
Mary is more beautiful than Jill.

The superlative form of adjectives and adverbs compares three or more people,
places, or things.
With adjectives, add est to most one-syllable words and some two-syllable (ends
with y) words. In other words, place most before the positive form.
E.g. Mary is the smartest of all.
Mary is the most beautiful of all.
