Release Notes DataLyzer Spectrum 3.34
Release Notes DataLyzer Spectrum 3.34
This document describes new functionality which might not be available in your version of DataLyzer. With every change or
addition of the program the registration number is increased. You can find your registration number if you go to Help and
open About DataLyzer. For companies with a maintenance contract you can get new versions of the SPC modules for free.
Please ask your accountmanager to get updates.
In addition to changes in DataLyzer Spectrum we have expanded the modules to offer a complete software suite for world
class manufacturers. In addition to our SPC modules the following modules are available and integrated with DataLyzer
Spectrum SPC software:
• SPC Wizard: a module for SPC training and advanced analysis integrated with DataLyzer Spectrum
• A mobile version of the Satellite with base functionality which will also run on the iPad
• DataLyzer FMEA: a modules for Process flows, FMEA, Control Plans and inspection plans/work instructions
• DataLyzer Gage Management: a module for registration of gages, calibration and MSA
• DataLyzer Import Service: A large number of import services are available. You can import data from ASCII or TXT,
from Excel files, from databases, from CMMs, from OPC servers etc.. In some cases we can create the charts
automatically from the files for example with the Calypso CMM.
• DataLyzer Mould Management: A module to manage the configuration of moulds and support the quality process
• A full functional DLL is available to integrate DataLyzer in any GUI both VB and C#.
Note: This Qualis 4.0 Satellite module is only compatible while running on MS SQL databases. For more information, read/
download the brochure here: https://www.datalyzer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Brochure-DLQualis-4.0-SPC.pdf.
Dashboard module
A new dashboard module is developed offering the possibility to create new report which can be shown on PC or large
screen. The report can be automatically updated on a timer. The number of possible reports is virtually unlimited.
Scheduler
A new module is released to offer the possibility to raise frequency alarms based on a specific schedule. For example if you
need to signal operators that a measurement must be done on Monday and Friday morning at 900 am you can set it up in
the scheduler. The scheduler will automatically update the required DataLyzer fields and the Satellite will automatically
generate the message to the operator at the required times. Setup can be done per minute, hour, day, week, month or
year.
Your registration code also contains letters and numbers. The registration code defines which features are available for
you. If you see features in this document which are interesting for you but have not been released please contact
DataLyzer or your distributor. This document only shows new features.
Release 3.34:
- In this version, we implemented an SQL to SQL database converter to merge multiple databases.
- We have improved some screens/bug fixing in the parameter definition setup (languages, formatted parameter
entry, parameter default controls.
- We have improved some layouts for (statistics in) the User Defined Reports.
- A new feature is added in the parameter definition setup to set a limit for parameter entry (automatic increment)
linked to another parameter value. For example, if a machine is supposed to make/if operators are supposed to
measure 100 pieces within a lotnumber, then the parameter is resetted after 100 pieces and the operator is not
allowed to enter more subgroups for that lotnumber.
Release 3.33:
- In this version we offer an option to set control limits at a fixed percentage of the specification limits. This can for
example be useful in a job shop situation where you have small number of parts or in a situation where in
beginning of an SPC situation you like to reduce the number of alarms. This option is basically similar to what is
commonly known as precontrol. This is not recommended as a replacement for SPC and you should be aware
control limits are never set within 3 sigma limits to avoid too many false alarms.
- You can have longer partnames of 80 characters. This feature can be activated in system definitions. You can view
or enter a long partname in the characteristics setup screen under part and the long partname is shown in the
sequence creation screen
- In UDR a quick Sigma level (QSL) is added which is 3*Cpk. This is not 100% in conformance with sigma level
calculation in 6 sigma but added as a customer request
Release 3.32:
- In this version, we have implemented a new feature linked to the ‘frequency’ functionality in the DataLyzer
Spectrum and Satellite. We have added a ‘grace period’ linked to the frequency which will be an extra time value
(number of minutes defined by the user) for which the status is not updated as offline (grey) yet. But, this
characteristic will appear in the ‘due report’ on the Satellite/Spectrum.
- A new feature to enter an input mask for an optional parameter is added. You can enforce a specific format of
parameter entry now. A further description can be found in manual in chapter 9.10
- Microsoft has discarded the use of the old OLE driver SQLOLEDB with new installations. This means the connection
to the DataLyzer database might not work anymore on new computers or if you upgrade to SQL Server 2019. The
Spectrumspecialsetup program is updated to support the new MSOLEDBSQL driver.
- A logarithmic scale can be shown in a control chart
- Various performance improvements and bug fixes
Release 3.31:
- In this version, we increased the possible length of the ‘characteristic’ and ‘partname’ fields in the User Defined
Report setup/functionality.
- In addition, we have fixed several issues in this release.
Release 3.30:
- We have implemented a new feature called Parameter Mining. This Parameter Mining feature is available in the
‘Data’ menu. This form is designed to allow you to find the intersections between two parameters. For example,
you get a defective part returned, you can enter the 'work order' for that part and find all the other parts that used
the same raw material lot. You can get six level of specificity, from the raw material lot number to all the
subgroups entered from that raw material lot. This form can also be used to identify typos in parameter entries, as
it will give you a complete list of unique values for the "Find Parameter". Once you find the incorrect parameter
value, you search for that value and return the specific subgroups where that parameter can be found using the
bottom radio button. At that level, an "Edit" button will appear on the right at the end of the row, that will take
you directly to the subgroup entry form filled with the values for that subgroup and you can fix the typo.
For more information on this feature, refer to the updated User Manual Chapter 4.6.
- We have improved the ‘Bat Chart – By Parameter’ print output, including showing the characteristic name.
- We have increased the number of characters for the Partfile and Characteristic columns in the User Defined
Report.
- In addition, it is now possible to subtotal ‘by year’ in the User Defined Report.
- We have improved the ‘Weight Control’ functionality in DataLyzer Spectrum, including the possibility to show
more statistics in the User Defined Report (TNE1/TU1 limit, TNE2/TU2 limit, the Actual Samples below TNE1/TU1,
the Actual Samples below TNE2/TU2, the Actual Percentage below TNE1/TU1 and the Actual Percentage below
TNE2/TU2). In addition, the first two statistics can be shown in the Satellite Statistics.
Release 3.29:
- Ignore OOC if PPK > benchmark.
- An option is added that an OOC error message will be ignored if a Ppk is above a predefined value. This option is to
reduce the number of OOCs. OOS messages and alarms will still be set with this option.
Release 3.28:
- Central update new feature: Windows 10 has changed policies causing troubles for the prior central update
feature. This version complies with new policies, but this new version should be installed on all PCs manually once
before the central update system will work again.
Release 3.27
- ‘SpectrumSpecialSetup’ can handle usernames and passwords up to 32 characters for the SQL authentication
login.
- We have made some small changes to the User note field to avoid confusion and to prepare for the new
Webbased Qualis 4.0 solution. From version 3.27 onwards, we have removed the small note box and only work
with the large note box. The note screen in alarm situations looks like below:
- We have implemented the filter on Critical Characteristics for the User Defined Reports. When selecting a data
group/ print group it is possible to select the box to include only the Critical Characteristics in your report if
desired.
Release 3.26
- The partname is included to the subject of each alert e-mail. When receiving an e-mail alert the related
characteristic and part file are immediately clear from the subject of the mail.
- We have created an interface with the document management system of ‘Docuware’. In case you are using
Docuware for document management, and would like to use this interface, please contact your account manager.
- We have improved in several areas of the User defined Report. It is now possible to show only or filter on Critical
Characteristics in the User defined Report.
Release 3.25
- An option to set a ‘Centerline’ in the control limit section of the Control Chart is added. This Centerline is a fixed
value, and it is possible to calculate runs and trend based on this centerline instead of the average or the target. It
is also possible to hide the average line in the Control Chart. For more information, contact your accountmanager
or refer to section 9.5.4 in the User Manual (Setup Statistical Preferences - Calculation Rules)
- Additional fields are added in the setup of characteristics for the First Article Inspection Reports (according to the
AS9000 Aerospace Industry Standard). These additional fields are the Characteristic Number, The Reference
location, Characteristic Designator and Characteristic Requirement. Please refer to section 3.3.1.15 in the User
Manual (Option Menu: FAI information).
- Active Directory user login supports more than 12 characters. The number of characteristics for this login
functionality is increased to 24 characters.
- The length of data entry for the ‘datagroup’ field is increased to 40 characters.
Release 3.24
- We have developed a procedure to convert the system from Local and Global Cause & Action Notes to Group
Cause Notes and Group Action Notes. This Group Note system makes it more efficient to manage the Cause and
Action notes for similar characteristics/ control charts. For further instructions regarding this procedure to switch
to the Group Note system, contact DataLyzer Support and/or read the ‘Instruction Guide – Converting Cause and
Action Note method’.
- We have improved the display and lay-out for some reports.
Release 3.23
- We have enhanced functionality of the automatic import from the Dage Tester. For example, we have increased
the number of dage tester attributes to a subgroup size of 24.
- We have added an option to filter on sample size in the search option of attribute control charts. You can also
even exclude subgroups smaller than a specific size (N) in attribute control charts. This can be useful in case of
nonconformities or defect characteristics to make sure that small(er) subgroups do not influence the average too
much.
- It is possible to show the 1 and 2 sigma lines in the control charts next to the 3 sigma control limits.
- We have developed multi factor authentication based on the radius protocol for user management. This way, you
can ensure the login of users based on a password and a notification code through a mobile app.
When you use the multifactor authentication, the login screen will look as below. The push-to-accept notification
will be sent after OK is clicked.
Release 3.22
- In the Executive Monitor it is possible to view dashboard from multiple databases, through the ‘Aggregated Hub
Status’.
- We can automatically interface to a historian (Inmation) to import PLC/process data into DataLyzer Spectrum. You
can read a full whitepaper on this functionality here; https://www.datalyzer.com/wp-content/uploads/PDF-
documents/Big_data_OEE_and_SPC.pdf
- We have added an option to calculate control limits after 25 and 30 subgroups.

- Length Partfilename has been increased to 40 characters.
- Length characteristicname has been increased to 40 characters.
- Length sequencename has been increased to 40 characters.
- Cause and action notes can be linked. If you link them only linked action notes will be shown after selecting a
cause note. This guides the operator directly to the correct actions.
- You can indicate a specific action in the status box on the HUB screen and Satellite for example the letter T in case
of calling a technician.
- A userid (name or number) can be added to the note screen. This offers the option to see who entered the user
note. The user must be a valid user in the system otherwise a note cannot be entered.
Release 3.17
- The system is completely capable to use merger replication (SQL). This offers the possibility to run databases
across multiple locations where people can work locally if the internet is not fast or not available and trough
merger replication the database will be updated the moment internet is available again.
- A new option is added that you can switch between SQL databases from within the program. This can be setup in
the Spectrumspecialsetup. This offers for example an option to look at databases from multiple plants or suppliers
which are available through merger replication or to switch between production and archive database without the
need to change setup.ds every time
Release 3.16
- An option is added to use Andon light in production. The light shows red in case any last subgroup which is not
older than a predefined time on that Satellite is out of control without cause or action.
Release 3.15

365 SSL/TLS.
- Auto search on catalog: If you activate this option in setup when you start typing in the part or characteristic
selection box the list is filtered so you can pick the right one fast
- Special data entry spreadsheet option: A specific option was added that data can be entered in by part format but
you don’t have to enter data in one time. You need to enter a unique id for example a testid and then the
sequence screen in by part is opened. If you enter a number of characteristics you can close the screen. If you
open the screen later with the same testid the data already entered is visible and cannot be reentered. To have
this working use the bypart linkId option in the parameter setup screen.
- The FMEA module allows to create control charts directly from the Control Plan in the FMEA system. This works
only under SQL Server and requires the FMEA module, See https://youtu.be/U1HsEn3J-b4
- For users who recently bought the software or have a maintenance contract we offer the service desk for
management of issues.

- Allow DataLyzer to launch an external program based on the email alert conditions
- The functionality of moving a characteristic has been changed. In the past it was when you move characteristic it
asked if you want to keep the old characteristic. If you set No the characteristic was moved to the new part
including the data. Differences in optional parameters were handled by using the new parameter setup. Due to
differences parameter values were not available anymore in new parts. If you set Yes keep the data only the
characteristic setup was copied to the new part.
- The new functionality is that it checks if there is a difference in optional parameters. If there is no difference the
characteristic is moved including the data. If there is a difference a warning is given if you want to move the
characteristic. If you say No nothing happens.
- Top copy the setup of a characteristic to another part first copy the characteristic within a part and then move the
new characteristic to the other part.
- DataLyzer checks that only 1 instance is running. In some environments (NComputing) you need to run multiple
instances. With registration code CXM the check for 1 instance is bypassed.

checkbox next X&R chart type for characteristics with Subgroupsizes > 10 and =< 25
- Italian and Turkish are added to the language database
- In the batchart for one characteristic you see the average and variation per measurement. If you want to correct
the deviation for a specific measurement (for example a spindle, a cavity etc) you know how far the specific
measurement is above target but not exactly how far it is above the process average and what the variation is
compared to the subgroupaverage. When the batchart is visible per measurement there is a menu option avgsig to
show the average per measurement compared to the
subgroupaverages and the standard deviation of the deviation of subgroupaverages. There will be a separate
document describing this feature
- In a function you can calculate with a specific measurement from another chart. In a function you can for example
use C1(3) which means the third measurement from the chart C1. This can be used to enter data for parallel
processes in 1 chart and then automatically create individual charts in the same sequence.

The purpose is to calculate a summary PPM statistic for a product group, department or an
entire plant.
- Add features to the UDR setup which required changing to a tabbed format for setup.
1. Add combined print group stats and all stats in a row (only stats that could be combined)
2. Add a "Throughput" statistic that can only be used with print groups and the user must select a subset of the
print group to declare the include chars. Throughput means percentage good products produced based on a
combination of charts.
- Add new restriction. Cause and action note on OOS itself, emphasizing OOS charts rather
than combining them with OOC condition.
Release 2.71
- Option to force Satellites to shut down for maintenance (Patch 86)
- Data entry for optional parameters can be password protected. Data entry is not possible without putting in the
appropriate password. It offers operator traceability to a specific subgroup of data. It is an electronic signature for
FDA requirements.

- New statistics added to the UDR:
o % OOC Range
o Count historical status flags for values out of control limits
o Total subgroups OOC, don’t count point twice of both X and R are out of control o Count status of all
points in recordset not only since last control Break
- DPMO is possible with U charts
- With a lot of information on HUB screen the screen doesn’t move anymore when you click on a page
- After editing a subgroup in a chart the chart will not automatically scroll to the end but will return at the point
where the chart was opened
- The registration code PW assures the password will not be encrypted.
Release 2.67
- Date picker implemented in search form
- Have an option to exclude parameters for a list of characteristics instead of selecting one by one
- In the DMP table an index column was added to make sure records are read in the correct order in Oracle.
Companies using the DMP Table need to verify during an upgrade that this works correctly
- This version does not support Windows 98 and 2000 anymore
Release 2.66
- In the defect categories an upper reasonable limit was added (Patch 81)
Release 2.65
- In some countries Oracle charactersets will corrupt the encryption of passwords. A new registration code
PQ only allows to use characters with ASCII code < 128. Might be of importance for using passwords in China
Release 2.62
- An option is added in the preferences to deactivate all rules for attributes like runs, trends and stratification.
When this option is selected only points out of the control limits will give an alarm. (turn off all shift and
stratification analysis)

- There is an application note available for this report. Please send DataLyzer a mail if you like to get this application
note.
- DMP import can now import up to 1000 subgroups. Before it was 600.
- Gage drivers are now stored internally in the database. This means that you can create a gage once and have it
available at all stations. Upgrading to this version requires some planning especially if a lot of gages are used with
the same name but with different settings. Contact DataLyzer or your distributor for assistance
- DataLyzer has a possibility to upgrade automatically from a central location where the program is stored.
Appendix 1:
Purpose:
If the capability of a control chart is below a certain level (eg Ppk or Cpk below 1.33) or there is a big change in capabilities
between quarters or % of subgroups OOC above a certain level (eg 4%) an action or project should be started to improve
the capability and/or control cq analyse the cause of the change in capability.
A project started can affect several other charts as well.
The purpose of this document is to describe the feature to support capability and control improvement projects in
DataLyzer Spectrum.
To create a new project you select the menu option CAPA. If this menu option is not available contact your DataLyzer
distributor.
When you create a CAPA give the CAPA a name and press enter. The following screen appears.
Reports
You can print the project description with all the fields. A second report is shown in figure 2.
Figure 2: Report showing the improvement progress and status of a CAPA project
The report in figure 2 shows the Cpk, Ppk and percentage out of control per month. The report shows the progress of
improvement.
When more than one characteristic is influenced by the results of the CAPA project you need a report to compare the Cpk,
Ppk and percentage out of control for the different characteristics. A characteristic summary report shows for all
characteristics influenced by this project what the Cpk, Ppk and percentage out of control is. The report is visible in figure
3.
In a large organisation there can be numerous projects. On a specific cause of problems there can be multiple projects
addressing a specific cause. Each project can address one cause selected from a cause list. Note: This is not the same
cause list used for causes and actions in adding notes in the control charts. This list contains more general causes.
Examples of causes in this list are:
• Bad MSA
• Incorrect setup
• Variation incoming material
• Cleaning
• Lack of maintenance
• Overadjusting operators etc
An example of the report is shown in figure 4.
Conclusion:
When you use an SPC system the system should support all 3 levels (operators, production management and engineers
and plant management). When capability or the percentage out of control is unacceptable improvement projects need to
be started. Starting these projects is not so difficult but reporting about the progress of these projects in relation to the
improvements of the capability and control is time consuming. The CAPA option in DataLyzer helps you to reduce the time
required and organize you projects in the DataLyzer database.
