Checking Your Current Firmware Versions
RAID Controller
• In CMC select your storage system.
• Click Diagnostics, then Hardware Information.
• The current installed Firmware Version can be found under Controller/Cache Items

Drive Backplane
• In CMC select your storage system.
• Click Diagnostics, then Hardware Information.
• The current installed Firmware Version can be found under Backplane Information

BIOS
• In CMC select your storage system.
• Click Diagnostics, then Hardware Information.
• The current installed BIOS Version can be found under Motherboard Information

iLO 2/LO100
• In CMC select your storage system.
• Click Diagnostics, then Hardware Information.
• The current installed Firmware Revision can be found under Motherboard Information then IPMI Information

Disk Drives
• In CMC select your storage system.

Software/Firmware Update Instructions

SAN/iQ Software
• Follow the SAN/iQ Upgrade Guide.
• Download the required Centralized Management Console (included in the SAN/iQ Management SW DVD) and
any other software components you need from www.hp.com/go/P4000downloads.
• Utilize the CMC Online Upgrades tool to upgrade storage systems.

BIOS
• For DL320s download the latest BIOS and use the Creating a bootable USB Device with Supplements or Installing
Firmware Using using iLO 2/LO100 procedures for installation.
• For P4x00 download the latest BIOS to a Windows based system and run the executable file. Insert an empty 512
MB – 2 GB USB Key (This process will destroy all information on the key) then navigate to
C:\SWMedia\SPxxxxx\ROMPaq USB Key\ and execute HBQUSB.exe (Run as Administrator if using UAC
protected system), once complete remove the USB key and using CMC power down the storage system. Insert USB
Key into storage system, and power it on. The system should boot from the USB key, using a KVM follow the on-
screen instructions.

iLO 2/LO100
• For P4x00 G2 download either latest iLO 2 supplement and use the Creating a bootable DVD with Supplements
procedure for installation or download the latest iLO 2 HTTP User Interface Download and run the executable
selecting the “Extract” option. Once the files are extracted open the iLO 2 HTTP interface, click on the
Administrtation tab, and select the Browse… button on the Select New Firmware Image Screen. Upload the .bin
file previously extracted and select Send Firmware Image.
• For DL320s download either latest iLO 2 supplement and use the Creating a bootable DVD with Supplements
procedure for installation or download the latest iLO 2 HTTP User Interface Download and run the executable
selecting the “Extract” option. Once the files are extracted open the iLO 2 HTTP interface, click on the
Administrtation tab, and select the Browse… button on the Select New Firmware Image Screen. Upload the .bin
file previously extracted and select Send Firmware Image.
• For P4x00 download the latest LO100 to a Windows based system and run the executable file. Insert an empty

Creating a Bootable USB Device with Supplements
Download the HP USB Key Utility for Windows.
Download the HP Smart Update Firmware DVD 9.30.
1. On a Windows based system execute the HP USB Key Utility installer.
2. Run the HP USB Key Utility program. Select the HP Smart Update Firmware DVD 9.30 “*.iso” file, and a USB
flash drive.
3. Copy the supplemental update “*.scexe” file(s) to the “HPFWUP930\hp\swpackages” directory on the USB flash
drive.
4. Boot the Storage System from the USB flash drive.
5. Select “Interactive Firmware Update Version 9.30”
6. Choose your language and keyboard settings, and accept the user agreement
7. Select the Firmware Updates tab and choose the link “Install Firmware”.
8. Do not select a bundle on the “Select Bundle Filter” screen. Choose “Ok”.
9. See the following exceptions when choosing from the list of available packages:
- For DL320s using SAN/iQ version 8.5 or older unselect the iLO 2 version 2.05 upgrade.
- For DL320s using SAN/iQ version 9.0 or newer you can accept all available upgrades.
- For P4300, P4500, P4300 G2, P4500 G2 and P4800 G2 you can accept all available upgrades.
10. Choose “Install”.
11. Once all upgrades are completed, verify all upgrades where successful, and select “Reboot Now”.

Installing Firmware using iLO 2/LO100


This requires the iLO 2/LO100 Advanced License, if you do not have the advanced license you can download a free
60 day trial.
For P4x00 G2 and DL320s use the iLO 2 HTTP User Interface upgrade option to upgrade your iLO 2 firmware to 2.05
before continuing.
Download the HP USB Key Utility for Windows.
Download the HP Smart Update Firmware DVD 9.30.
1. On a Windows based system execute the HP USB Key Utility installer.
2. Run the HP USB Key Utility program, select the HP Smart Update Firmware DVD 9.30 .iso file, and a USB flash
drive to install onto.
3. Copy the supplemental update (.scexe) filed to /HPFWUP930/hp/swpackages/ on the USB thumb drive.
4. Access your iLO 2/LO100 via your preferred web browser.
5. For DL320s and P4x00 G2 Virtual Media tab, and open the Virtual Media Applet. Use the Virtual USB/Floppy to
mount the USB Flash Drive.
6. For P4x00 select Virtual KVM/Media. When the Remote KVM window opens select control, then Virtual Media.
Select the USB flash drive for Virtual USB/Floppy.
7. Reboot the Storage System.
8. Select Interactive Firmware Update Version 9.30
9. Choose your language and keyboard settings, and accept the user agreement
10. Select the Firmware Updates tab and click the link Install Firmware.
11. Click Ok without selecting anything on the Select Bundle Filter Screen.
12. When presented a list of available downloads DO NOT accept any iLO 2 upgrades, you can accept all other
upgrades.
10. Hit Install
11. Once all upgrades are completed, verify all upgrades indicate Successful, and select reboot now.
