Student Technology Device Use Policy

1. Students shall bring gadgets or devices, specifically laptops or tablets, for learning
purposes. They must adhere to the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy.
2. All technological devices (headphones/earphones, smartphones, laptops, and tablets)
shall only be used under the teacher’s permission and supervision.
3. Habitual disregard for the technology policies of MDSF will merit disciplinary action from
the Student Well-Being Office.

First offense: Issuance of a violation slip by the teacher

Second offense: Issuance of a violation slip by the teacher, and letter of notice to the

parent attached in the diary

Third offense: Confiscation of the device and conference with the parents

4. The subject area teacher or homeroom adviser has the authority to utilize classroom
management practices that will better help students regulate their gadget use such as
gadget sweep, etc.
5. Students should handle their devices responsibly, avoid actions that may result in
damage, theft, or loss. The school and its staff are not responsible for any damage or
theft of a student’s gadget.
6. All devices are expected to be brought to school with fully-charged batteries. In case
of a need for the device to be charged, a charging station is available for free. The
charging station will only accommodate laptops/tablets.
7. Students should respect the privacy of their own and others' data on their devices. They
should not attempt to access or modify files or information that does not belong to
them.

8. Students and their parents must read the technology device use policy and return a
signed copy to the adviser at the beginning of the school year. Signing the policy
acknowledges acceptance.

Policies on the use of smartphones


1. Students are not allowed to use his/her cellphones during class discussions or other
school-related activities unless permitted by the subject teacher for a valid purpose.
(Department Order (DO) No. 83, s. 2003 - Reiteration to DECS Order Nos. 70, s. 1999 and
26, s. 2000)
2. Using a cellphone is only allowed for monitoring and communication purposes only,
unless permitted by a teacher.
3. Students must keep their smartphones turned off or in silent mode at all times. They are
not allowed to take calls or answer messages during class hours.
4. Students must place their smartphones in their bags during class hours to minimize
distractions during learning instructions.
5. The subject area teacher or homeroom adviser has the authority to utilize classroom
management practices that will better help students regulate their gadget use, such as
gadget sweep, etc.
6. Students should not lend his/her smartphones to any other High School students.
7. Students should not use his/her smartphones to take pictures of any other student or
take group pictures without their consent.
8. If students need to place an emergency phone call during the day, they should request
to go to the Student Well-Being Officer (SWBO) office to use an office phone.

Policies on the use of Laptops/Tablets


1. Students should not lend his/her laptops/tablets to any other High School students.
2. Students should not use his/her laptops/tablets to take pictures of any student or have
group picture taking without their consent.
3. Students should only use their laptops/tablets when permitted by the teacher. This may
be at the beginning of the class or during specific activities.

4. Students should use laptops/tablets for educational purposes only and engage in
respectful behavior towards the teacher and fellow classmates. This includes avoiding
distractions, refraining from visiting non-educational websites, and refraining from
engaging in non class-related activities.

5. Students should position their laptops/tablets in a way that the screen is visible only to
them and not to other students, unless allowed by the teacher.

6. Students should use headphones or keep the sound muted unless instructed otherwise
by the teacher. This ensures that audio from the laptop/tablet does not disrupt the
learning environment.

7. Students should access only appropriate and authorized websites or resources as


directed by the teacher. They should refrain from visiting social media sites, gaming
platforms, or other non-educational websites during class time.

8. Students should save their work regularly and appropriately organize their files and
documents on their laptops/tablets. This helps ensure that work is not lost and facilitates
efficient retrieval of information.

9. Students should ensure that their laptops/tablets are fully charged before coming to
class or bring their chargers if needed. They should also manage the battery power
effectively during class time to avoid disruptions.

10. Students should use laptops/tablets to facilitate collaborative activities when instructed
to do so by the teacher. This may include sharing files, working on group projects, or
participating in online discussions.

11. Students are not allowed to take calls or answer messages during class hours.
12. Students are not allowed to access the LMS, Google accounts of other students.
