LESSON 7 - EVIDENCES OF EVOLUTION
FOSSILS
Fossils provide solid evidence that organisms from the past are not the same as
those found today; fossils show a progression of evolution.
ANATOMY
Fossils provide solid evidence that organisms from the past are not the same as
those found today; fossils show a progression of evolution.
EMBRYOLOGY
Embryology, the study of the development of the anatomy of an organism to its
adult form also provides evidence of relatedness between now widely divergent
groups of organisms. Structures that are absent in some groups often appear in
their embryonic forms and disappear by the time the adult or juvenile form is
reached.
BIOGEOGRAPHY
The geographic distribution of organisms on the planet follows patterns that are
best explained by evolution in conjunction with the movement of tectonic plates
over geological time. Evolution and geological changes are reflected in the
distribution of organisms and species on islands.
MOLECULAR BIOLOGY
DNA and genetic codes indicate life's common ancestor. Comparisons of DNA can
reveal how closely related different species are.

ANALOGOUS HOMOLOGOUS
Analogous structures are biological structures that have Homologous physical traits are those that are shared
comparable functions but do not possess the same
evolutionary origin. These biological features are used by due to evolutionary history (a common ancestor). If
different species for the same purpose. Convergent two or more species share a physical attribute, such
evolution occurs when animals evolve structures or as a sophisticated bone structure or body plan, they
functions that are analogous to those of their
evolutionary forebears, despite being highly varied. most likely inherited it from a common ancestor.
