Assignment SEM II 2223

The document describes a charger circuit design project using a photovoltaic module to deliver 5V to a 5Ω load. Students must choose between two PV modules, design the circuit such that the inductor current and output voltage ripple are within limits, simulate the design in Matlab/Simulink, and compare the results to calculations. The best module and switching frequency must be selected based on the student's group number.

BEE 4203
ASSIGNMENT (CO3, PO3)

Figure 1 shows a charger circuit to deliver 5 V voltage to a 5 Ω load resistor where the input
voltage of the circuit is coming from a photovoltaic (PV) module. If you have two choices of PV
modules as shown in Table 1, design the circuit so that the inductor current variation is less than
30 % of the average and the output voltage ripple is less than 5 %. Compare your calculated
values with simulation results in Matlab/Simulink (please clearly show your simulation
circuit design, the output voltage, the average inductor current, and the minimum and
maximum inductor current).
Hint: You must choose the most practical PV module and select the suitable switching frequency
based on your group numbering.
