Summary of Reports
The six typical stages of a construction project are described in the report, together with the required
design services for each phase. These stages include the study and report, the preliminary and final
designs, the bidding or negotiating, the construction phase, and the operational phase. The designer
creates project specifications, evaluates the location, examines governmental requirements, and
delivers concept designs and feasibility studies throughout the study and report phase. Discussions
with the customer, the preparation of preliminary design documentation, and revised cost estimates
are all part of the preliminary design process.
The preparation of construction drawings and specifications, revisions to cost projections, the
provision of engineering data, assistance with applications for regulatory permits, the creation of
construction contract papers, and the provision of final design and construction services are all
included in the final design phase.
In the bidding or negotiation phase, bids are requested, prospective contractors and material
suppliers are assessed, the customer is advised on alternative materials and equipment, and
assistance with bid opening and pre-bid meetings is provided.
The designer monitors adherence to design principles throughout the construction process and
examines laboratory, shop, and mill test results on materials and equipment. They also provide
directions to contractors, do financial analysis, and offer construction services via a full-time resident
project representative and supporting employees.
Group 9: Special Services for Construction Projects, Engineering Support Services, Academic
Services, Services as Employees.
A wide range of services are offered by civil engineers, such as specialized services for construction
projects, engineering support services, educational services, and services as workers.
Additional services for construction projects might include research, writing reports, and other tasks
that go beyond the typical scope of fundamental services. It's possible to find several of these
services under the category "consultations, inquiries, and reports."
Geotechnical engineering is an important aspect of special services and involves tasks like test
borings, sampling, analysis, recommendation-making, land surveys, and the creation of easement
descriptions
Another component of special services is value engineering, which entails reviewing other engineers'
work, revamping projects, and providing assistance in legal actions. Professional services that involve
engineering knowledge, such as geotechnical engineering, drawing, surveying, and data collecting,
are known as engineering support services. Even though duties connected to engineering can be
accomplished by non-engineers, civil engineering judgment is still required.
Academic services might include tutoring and refresher courses, as well as teaching civil engineering
courses at universities. Services as employees refers to civil engineers who are hired by businesses to
carry out civil engineering tasks and who are required to abide by the profession's codes of conduct
and the Code of Ethics.
Civil engineers that work part-time for the company are regarded as both employees and
consultants, and consulting civil engineers must adhere to set norms and regulations.
