Question:
It seems that computers, laptops, tablets, e-book readers, smart phones, video games, and other digital
media have changed life for everyone, especially during this pandemic. But what about young children?
How is their physical, cognitive, and social emotional development affected? Think about it—young
children today have never known a world without the Internet and cell phones.
With the Department of Education’s push for eLearning as new normal in the educational landscape, we
expect that young children’s homes will be packed more with media options, including TVs, computers,
DVD players, smart phones, to name a few. In your opinion, what would be the effect of all these media
exposure on early childhood development?
Answer:
It’s true that today’s generation uses high technologies that has so many advantages compared to the
ancient era before but behind of the modern gadgets that people enjoys in this civilizations hides the
darkest truth that it has long term bad effect when it is abused. All too much is bad and parents is the
memory of every child when it comes to using gadgets for education or other purposes.
In my opinion, media exposure would really give a massive effect on a child’s development. There are
always two sides of the coin, the disadvantages and advantages. To give the disadvantages, firstly,
there’s a possibility that a child would develop diseases if not supervised by parents or adults because
he/she will get addicted to it. Secondly, the child will grow aloof and does not know how to socialize
with other children if he’s not guided.
On the other hand, the advantages are if properly supervised by parents children will balance his time
studying and playing. Bond between parents and children relationship will be strong because the
parents will serve as the teacher to his child.
