Global Alarm Setup Configuration v1.0


Proficy – HMI/SCADA - CIMPLICITY

Overview
Alarm setups are used to filer alarms and can be configured to filter alarms based upon alarm class,
resource, or Time and state criteria. Alarm setups are unique to each user logged into a Cimplicity
project. The idea is that each user has their own filters specifically designed to their own needs and
they are not generally available to other users. To make the Alarm setup of a user available to all users
(GLOBAL) the Alarm Setup can be named with a “$” at the beginning of the Alarm Setup name.

The AMV OCX embedded in the CimView screen can also be configured to load an Alarm Setup upon
opening. An error message will be prompted (“Set up does not exist”) if the Alarm Setup is not present
for the user accessing the screen.

To ensure the alarm filters are setup correctly in each CimView screen we have to ensure that the
“Alarm Setup” profiles and the AMV OCX in each screen are configured.

Setup Procedure
STEP 1 A – Configure the Global “Alarm Setup” profile pre CIMPLICITY HMI 8.1

1. Open the Alarm Viewer while logged on as a USER with access to all of the resources needed
in the Alarm Setup Filter and click “Login!”.
2. Ensure that the viewer AMV OCX is configured to have the setup button and select OK.
3. Click the setup button on the Alarm viewer Screen to enter Alarm Setups profile interface and
create the desired Alarm Setup profile named as “$<NAME>” where <NAME> is the actual
name of the setup (i.e. $MYSETUP). Now save the filter.

NOTE: When configuring Alarm setups it is important to ensure that the desired alarms to be filtered
have either (or both) an Alarm Class or Resource configured for the purposes of isolation (i.e. Screen A
will see only alarms from class or resource A, and screen B will see only alarms from class or resource
B) HMI admin screen will see alarms from class or resource A & B.
STEP 1 B – Configure the Global “Alarm Setup” profile In CIMPLICITY 8.1.

In CIMPLICITY 8.1 the ability was added to modify alarm setups in the CIMPLICITY Workbench to help
aid in the configuration of alarm filtering. To use this do the following:

1. Open your project in the Workbench and expand the project alarms directory and right click
on Alarm Setups to create a new Alarm setup from the “Alarm Setups” sub directory.

2. Now add new Global setup and configure as desired.


STEP 2 – Configure the AMV OCX in the Cimview screen

1. Open <YOURSCREENNAME.cim> screen in CimEdit.. Where <YOURSCREENNAME.cim> is the


name of the CimView screen (i.e. Alarms.cim)

2. Right Click on AMV OCX and Select CIMPLICITY AMV Control Object -> properties -> Projects ->
Setup and enter the name of the project and the GLOBAL Alarm Setup filter.
3. Click OK. Then OK again in the CIMPLICITY AMV Control Properties.

Conclusion
When the screen is opened the configured global alarm setup will automatically be loaded and will
filter the alarms as configured in the Alarm setup.
