CHAPTER III (Russ)

The document describes the research methodology used to determine the acceptability of a DIY vacuum cleaner made from plastic bottles powered by solar energy. It employed an experimental research design using a survey questionnaire to collect data from 30 respondents including students and parents on the quality, design and usefulness of the vacuum cleaner. The data was analyzed using frequency count, percentile and weighted mean.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This study employed the use of experimental research design to determine the

Acceptability of DIY Vacuum Cleaner Using Plastic Bottles Powered by Solar

Energy in Maintaining a Houseclean Environment. Experimental research serves as a

road map to the study methods, helping readers to understand more clearly how the

data were obtained and, therefore, assisting them in properly analyzing the results

(Kenneth knight, 2010). Experimental design is the process of carrying out research in

an objective and controlled fashion so that precision is maximized and specific

conclusions can be drawn regarding a hypothesis statement. Generally, the purpose is

to establish the effect that a factor or independent variable has on a dependent variable

(S. Bell, 2009). This is also a quantitative method were survey is utilized to determine

the Acceptability of DIY Vacuum Cleaner Using Plastic Bottles Powered by Solar

Energy in Maintaining a Houseclean Environment.

Research Instrument

The main instrument that the researchers used to gather and collect necessary

information data from the respondents was a survey, the questionnaire has three parts.

The first part is about the input or the availability of the materials used to create the

DIY Vacuum Cleaner Using Plastic Bottles Powered by Solar Energy, it helps to

determine the quality of the product. The second part is about the process or the step

by step procedure in making the DIY Vacuum Cleaner Using Plastic Bottles Powered

by Solar Energy, help to determine its design. The last part is deals with the
hypothesis in determining the Acceptability of DIY Vacuum Cleaner Using Plastic

Bottles Powered by Solar Energy in Maintaining a Houseclean Environment. Each

statement was provided with coded response category described as follows:

5 - Strongly agree

4 - Agree

3 - Uncertain

2 - Disagree

1 - Strongly disagree

Research Respondents

The study was conducted at AMA Computer College, Santa Cruz, Laguna

branch. The researchers target respondents is the students and the student’s parents of

grade 12 STEM of AMA Computer College Santa Cruz Campus during the school

year of 2022-2023. The research involve thirty (30) respondents, specifically, fifteen

(15) Students grade 12 STEM of AMA Computer College Santa Cruz Campus and

fifteen (15) mothers of each of this students. Its goal was to determine the quality of

the DIY Vacuum Cleaner Using Plastic Bottles Powered by Solar Energy and its

usefulness in cleaning houses.

Sampling Technique

The researchers employed purposeful or purposive sampling, which involves

identifying and selecting individuals or groups of individuals that are especially

knowledgeable about or experienced with a phenomenon of interest (Cresswell &

Plano Clark, 2011). The purposive sampling focused on particular characteristic of a

population that are of interest which will best to answer the research questions.
Purposive sampling can be very useful for situation needed to reach the targeted

sample quickly and used most often when a difficult-to-reach population needs to be

measured.

The main respondents of the study were fifteen (15) students of grade 12

STEM of AMA Computer College Santa Cruz Campus and fifteen (15) mothers of

each of these students.

Data Gathering Procedure

To gather information for this research study about determining the

Acceptability of DIY Vacuum Cleaner Using Plastic Bottles Powered by Solar

Energy in Maintaining a Houseclean Environment. At first, the researchers prepared

a title and were approved by the research adviser. It gives the main problem that is

sought to answer at the end of the study. The researchers prepared research

questionnaires and asked permission from every thirty (30) respondents, , specifically,

fifteen (15) Students grade 12 STEM of AMA Computer College Santa Cruz Campus

and fifteen (15) mothers of each of this students.

The researchers did the survey questionnaire according and well connected to

the said statement of the problem to seek for the answer on the main problem. Before

starting the survey, the respondents were told that their participation has no

compensation or incentives, because it is voluntary. The researchers employed a

careful and rigorous process of participant selection to ensure that all answers of the

respondents were considered.

This study represented a quantitative method that can provide valuable

insights, based on the student's and their mother's answers about the Acceptability of

DIY Vacuum Cleaner Using Plastic Bottles Powered by Solar Energy in Maintaining
a Houseclean Environment. Findings of this study cannot be presumed to be

representative of, or generalizable to, to the entire set of participants and individuals

that were involved with this study. As soon as the survey finished, the researcher will

collect the data they gather starting from the number of respondents, including the

percentage of every question.

Statistical Treatment of Data

To treat the collected data, the researchers tallied the response using frequency

count, percentile and weighted mean.

All of parts of the questionnaire dealt with the statement that determines the

Acceptability of DIY Vacuum Cleaner Using Plastic Bottles powered by Solar Energy

in maintaining a Houseclean Environment. Frequency count and weighted mean were

used which were verbally interpreted.

The formula to get the weighted mean is:

WM = Ʃ FW / Ʃ N

Where:

WM = weighted mean

F = frequency

W = weighted responses

N = total number of respondents

In interpreting the analyzed data, the following scale was used for the last past

of the questionnaire,

1 1.00 – 1.80 Strongly Disagree

2 1.81 – 2.60 Disagree

3 2.61 – 3.40 Uncertain

4 3.41 – 4.20 Agree

5 4.21 – 5.00 Strongly Agree
