Some people believe that the salaries of sportsmen and women are way too high in
comparison to de job that they have and the role they play in our society.
Personally, I don’t agree with this affirmation; but that doesn’t mean that other jobs
shouldn’t be as well paid as these, because of their importance.
In the first place, I think it´s important to clarify that sportspeople aren’t useful to
society, they are entertainers, and as such they deserve the salaries that they earn. Many
football players, like Leo Messi, bring joy to entire countries, they bring happiness in
times of crises, and I think not many people have the talent or the power to do that.
Aside from that, people tend to criticise the amount of money these people make, but
when it comes to other types of entertainers, nobody seems to disagree in terms of their
pay checks. Famous singers and actors make as much money as sportspeople, even
more, but no one seems to be bothered by this fact.
Lastly, there are very important factors related to these huge salaries, like the fact that
there are few people that can handle the amount of pressure, the long hours of training,
and that have the ability to stand out in a sea of players. Not everyone has the talent and
the self-discipline to be great at a sport, and I think that’s why they earn more money
than the average worker.
In conclusion, I don´t think one could say that sportsmen and women are useless,
replaceable, or that the impact that they have on society is minor in comparison to
doctors or teachers. They have the very difficult job of being an example for a lot of
people, and to bring joy to the mases, and that reflects on how they are rewarded.

With the advances of technology more and more sports are transmitted on television
every day; there are even whole channels dedicated to live sports events.
In my opinion, the advantages of this are way more than the disadvantages. This makes
sports more accessible to everyone, and gives a lot of visibility to disciplines that weren
´t televised before.
Nowadays, people that don’t have the resources to attend to expensive games, or that
have some accessibility problems, are able to watch every single match of their
favourite team, which democratises entertainment for everyone who’s interested.
Aside from that, there are a lot of sports and teams that are receiving new sponsors and
financial aids due to de visibility and the new fans they’ve gained, all thanks to televised
events. This has a lot of positive consequences, like children practicing new sports,
having different role models to look up to, and athletes that now can make a living out
of their talent.
On the other hand, a minor disadvantage might be the intervention of artificial
intelligence, like the “V.A.R.” in football, that sometimes denaturalizes the sport, in
order to make it more correct and TV worthy.
In conclusion, one could say that television and technology have been a blessing to
almost everyone involved in the sports ambiance, helping a great amount of athletes,
and bringing fans closer together with sportspeople and teams.
