RATIONALE
In view with the pandemic caused by the N Corona/Covid19 virus, the school has come up with
alternative/catch up plans per advice /directive from CHED. The school as well adapts its programs and
practices with the policies and regulations set by the Local Government Units as far as strict observance
of protocols to help control the spread of the dreaded disease among the students.
To ensure the continuity of the school programs this S.Y. 2020-2021 and to be of the best service
to all students, the school has come up with the most fitting modality/learning delivery system which, as
per result of the survey conducted, is within each student’s capacity who commonly doesn’t have access
to internet and online services. Among other suggested effective learning delivery systems, the school
has chosen the Modular Approach.
INTRODUCTION
The course provides students adequate information and interpretation of physical fitness through
a study of how body responds; adjust to exercise and physical activities. It further cultivates an
appreciation for the value of fitness thereby motivating students to develop and maintain a personal
fitness program.
Course Code: PE 1
For most people, physical activity should not pose any problem or hazard. PAR-Q has been
designed to identify the small number of adults for whom physical activity might be inappropriate or
those who should have medical advice concerning the type of activity most suitable for them.
Common sense is your best guide in answering these few questions. Please read them carefully
and check the yes or no opposite the question if it applies to you.
YES NO
1. Has your doctor ever said you have heart trouble?
2. Do you frequently have pains in your heart and chest?
3. Do you often feel faint or have spells of severe dizziness?
4. Has a doctor ever said your blood pressure was too high?
5. Has your doctor ever told you that you have a bone or joint problem such as
arthritis that has been aggravated by exercise, or might be made worse with
exercise?
6. Is there a good physical reason not mentioned here why you should not follow an
activity program even if you wanted to?

MODULE 1
OBJECTIVES
At the end of this module, the learners are expected to:
1. define Physical Education and its general concepts;
2. explain the importance of Physical Education;
3. discuss an example of a physically fit individual; and
4. perform different kinds of exercise.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical Education aims to develop students’ physical competence and knowledge of movement
and safety, and their ability to use these to perform in a wide range of activities associated with the
development of an active and healthy lifestyle. It also develops students’ confidence and generic skills,
especially those of collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking and aesthetic appreciation.
These, together with the nurturing of positive values and attitudes in PE, provide a good foundation for
students’ lifelong and life-wide learning.
Physical Education is defined as a planned, sequential instruction that promotes lifelong physical
activity, designed to develop basic movement skills, sports skills, and physical fitness as well as
to enhance mental, social, and emotional abilities (Wikipedia.org)
It plays an integral role in the Education system for reasons that it promotes a holistic approach
to the development of a human being encompassing all aspects
such as the physical, social and even emotional.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
A body movement that is produced by the contraction of skeletal muscles and that substantially
increases energy expenditure (Lacy and Hastard, 2007)
Physical activity that is done regularly is said to produce
health benefits and thus is considered to be a form of exercise
as conceptualized in the books of Hoeger and Hoeger (2005)
and Seidentop (2004).
EXERCISE
A type of physical activity that requires planned, structured,
and repetitive bodily movement to improve or maintain one or
more components of physical fitness ( Hoeger and Hoeger,
2005)
Leisure-time physical activity conducted with the intention of
developing physical fitness (Siedentop, 2004)
PHYSICAL FITNESS
According to Robbins, Powers and Burgess (2002) Physical
Fitness refers to a fit individual who is able to complete the
normal routine for the day and still have ample reserve energy
to meet the other demands of daily life – recreational sports and
other leisure activities and energy to handle life’s emergency
situations.
BIG IDEA
What is difference between physical activity and exercise?
Physical activity is movement that is carried out by the skeletal muscles that requires energy. In
other words, any movement one does is actually physical activity. Exercise, however, is
planned, structured, repetitive and intentional movement intended to improve or
maintain physical fitness.
Activity 1. You can do it! Go Online
Film yourself doing 5 kinds of exercise for 5 minutes. Send the video through messenger group chat
