According to Erick Hyun Yong Kim (2017), sport can unify cities and people in

unique ways. Cities can build up a sense of pride through sports from childhood pick-up

games in neighbors and parks to public sporting events; through a child that is just

having fun playing to a professional athlete playing in an amateur league. That's what a

public sports facility can bring in a city. It can build up professional athletes in the future.

As he observes, sports complex only open when there are events and abandoned when

the event is over while the people in the community only practice their skills in the parks

which is the same here in Balanga City. The people center is open only for special

events of Bataan. There is no training ground for the community to develop their skills

more.

The researcher sports facility design is conceptually related to the idea of flowing

water with a beehive roof pattern. He separates each type of sports to different building

like shooting building, gymnastic building, water buildings, etc. which is a good idea in

organizing having a zoning for different types of sports. In that way the people will easily

find the facility that fits to their sports.

The design of the roof is like a beehive roof pattern. It is aesthetically pleasing

but I think it is destructing on the eye of the athletes while playing in the field and also to
the people watching the game. This kind of roof is best placed in the hallway, food court,

common area of a building and not on the actual playing ground.

Erick visions on his sporting facility is to be the cities pride and a future mega-

sporting event can be. The researcher and Erick have the same goal which is designing

a sports facility that benefits the local community with a specific space and readily

equipment needed by the professional athletes and aspiring athletes in the future.

According to Torres (2018), Philippine’s passion for sports is immense. Filipino is

very into sports that's why we have many "palarong pambansa" games that Filipino

plays in their childhood. Filipinos crave for sports entertainment and sports

achievements. Rosario Sports Complex which is located in Pasig is a softball stadium

with a seating capacity of 3,000 seats. The local government sees potential for the

facility to redevelop since the space is limited and doesn’t have the potential to expand

because of the buildings around it. It was then leads to vertical gymnasium and

recreation center. Through this approach more facility for different sports will provide. It

will provide a more functional infrastructure for multi-purpose sports facility.

This study also uses zoning to cater different sports in each floor of the building.

As a key element of the project proposal, the researcher seeks to conceptualize and

incorporate all the distinctions and information related to sports activities.

There are three (3) important zones the researcher stated in which can complete the

whole development which follows a translation of one space to another along the site.

ZONE 1

• Main Sports Building

• Administration office

• Lecture Rooms
ZONE 2

• Aquatic Center

• Dormitory

ZONE 3

• Multi-Purpose Hall

The researcher gained an understanding of the amenities and facilities that are

appropriate for a sports complex located in an urban region through examining this

facility; on what are the spaces needed to cater different sports. And the facility's

proximity to the proposed site—3 km—provided information on what extra facilities are

needed but aren't yet provided by the PhilSports Complex.

The local government of Pasig City sees a potential in Rosario Sports Complex to cater

more types of sports rather than softball. As the researcher sees potential to the Oval,

Talisay Ground too. It can cater more sports rather than basketball and running field and

more importantly rather than letting it deteriorate. Redevelopment of abandoned

buildings lowers the crime rate in the area. Nurture sports and at same time promotes

health and wellness through the sports facility that will enhance the community.

The design approach of the two studies gives the researcher more ideas in designing

and redeveloping a sports facility.
