Online Vs Traditional Learning
Online Vs Traditional Learning
ESSAY OUTLINE
Thesis statement: There are both advantages and disadvantages to both systems; while online or e-
learning offers more flexibility, unlimited access to course material and allows for greater number of
working people to take courses and better time management; traditional learning platforms still allows for
greater focus and participation hence more involvement. I will further discuss these differences in more
detail below as I decipher what system of e-learning may be more advantageous.

a. Summary
How Online is better than Traditional Learning
The advent of the pandemic in early 2020 brought significant changes to the delivery of
education. There was a sudden paradigm shift from the traditional way of learning to an online version.
As a result, new focus and applications came to bear on what was an already emerging field on online
learning platform. There are both advantages and disadvantages to both systems; while online or e-
learning offers more flexibility, unlimited access to course material and allows for greater number of
working people to take courses and better time management; traditional learning platforms still allows for
greater focus and participation hence more involvement. I will further discuss these differences in more
One benefit of Online Leaning is that you would have complete flexibility. When you are doing
classes online you would be able do assignments at any time of day, or fit classes around when it is more
convenient for you. It does not just allow you to do classes at your convenience, but it also allows for
individuals to learn at their own pace as some may learn faster than others (Dani, 2023). With traditional
learning the classes that you get are set and you better attend or else you would be running the risk of
failing the class. Also, with traditional learning if you try to do another teacher’s assignment in another’s
then you could get in trouble. It would be like you would have committed the biggest crime there is by
The second benefit of Online Learning is that you would have Increased Time Management
Skills. Although both Online and Traditional would require students to manage their time, online would
require more from students. Time Management is an essential part of an individual’s life especially when
they go out into the workforce. According to Dr. Lisa Coyne “Those who struggle with time management
are more likely to experience stress, sleep issues, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.
They may also start to exhibit symptoms of workplace burnout.” When you are at home completing
school, it is quite easy to get sidetracked from your work. When the television is right in front of you it
would be quite tempting to turn it on and watch what you think would be a couple of minutes but could
end up being hours. By completing Online, it would teach you to stay on track and get your assignments
and studies done on time since no one would be there to remind you of what you have due and when there
are. The detriment of Traditional learning would allow for time management but not as much as online.
What I mean by that statement is that although the same aspects apply online as in person you would have
someone reminding you of what you have due and when but online you would have to monitor you 24/7
as you would for Traditional. So, although both would require you to manage your time wisely, online
The last benefit of Online Learning is the Learning Material. The texts by themselves would be
heavy for students to carry, especially for those who have multiple classes in a day, which is why online
is the clear winner. With online learning you would have constant access to the course materials no matter
the time of day such as modules, lectures, and recorded sessions (Global, 2020). Imagine just sitting down
listening to the lecturer talk for an hour or two without having an interactive class is boring. Online would
allow for individuals to play competitive games online with each other while still covering the course
materials. Students would be able to download the course material rather than studying from the text.
Although it may be better to download the notes rather than write them, it comes with a negligible risk
that the online learning material could be lost or deleted compared to handwritten notes. They would be
able to use the downloaded material for future use if they need to rather than them having to return the
texts that they were issued at the beginning of the school year. The detriment of traditional learning when
referring to Learning material is the use of textbooks and exercise books. While learning traditional may
In Conclusion with the evidence that was provided in this essay it is without a doubt why students
prefer to do online classes rather than traditional. Don’t just take my word for it; there are several studies
that show how online is the clear winner in the race when it comes to which is better. Not just students
have that as their preference but even Universities are converting to Online because of how beneficial it
would be not just for students but also for the lecturers.
