IN THIS ISSUE ~ NEWS & NOTES ~ SUPPER ~ and so much more.....

Dear friends, I love trees. In nature, I love how trees can completely transform a landscape. A field of Joshua trees can appear playful or eerie; a grove of red firs or redwoods, holy; and standing in the shade of an oak tree on a warm day is soothing and peaceful. Most of the trees in the city were planted by humans. Many of us live on streets lined with trees. Trees add a calming effect to neighborhoods. Communities with lots of trees have lower crime rates, higher property values, and a greater sense of peace. Trees take a long time to grow. Most of the mature trees we enjoy were planted by previous generations. We are the beneficiaries of their generosity. In the neighborhood in which our church is located, there are a number of people and groups committed to planting and caring for trees, so that our urban forest will continue to grow and flourish. I myself have helped plant trees in two different locations in our community. Planting trees is an act of hope and faith. 65 years ago, the seeds of faith were first planted at Bixby Knolls Christian Church. The commitment, generosity, and sacrifice of our congregations founders and early members have grown into the beautiful ministry we have today. Now its our turn, to act with faith and hope, to plant and care for the ministry that will benefit generations present as well as generations yet to come. Blessings,

Pastor Danny

Pastor Danny rests beneath a Moreton Bay Fig Tree that was planted by Jotham and Margaret Bixby over 130 years ago.

the Alternative Christmas. The Alternative Christmas is typically at the beginning of Advent which is November 27. The earlier the leg work gets started, the better. Last year it was handled by Chuck Fowler who did an outstanding job of leaving detailed notes including contacts. Invite, ask what is needed, call to confirm, greet when arrive its pretty much laid out and just needs someone (or more than one) to take care of it. Serving our Lord comes in many different forms. Please consider volunteering. Contact Monica.
