Written Assignment Unit 7

What makes a good abstract?

A successful abstract is critical to the overall impact of the information delivered to its readers. An

abstract must include a clear presentation of the subject and the ideas given. The thoughts included, and

the examples used must be broken down comprehensively. The research conducted by the author and the

sources used by the author should be introduced with brief descriptions and explanations of your

methodology, leading to a glimpse of the final implications. By including these aspects in your abstract,

you can grab the readers' attention, allowing them to discern their desire to read on and to allow them to

get a general idea of what to expect ahead. The point of the abstract is to provide the reader with an

opportunity to understand what the paper contains ahead of time while being able to be shared amongst

the applicable communities. As stated by the University of Wisconsin, “what you include in your abstract

and in your title are crucial for helping other researchers find your paper or article” ( Aguzzi,

University of Wisconson). Without these attributes, an abstract will fall flat, leaving the audience
uninterested in continuing to read the literature altogether.
