1.0 INTRODUCTION

The Bursa Marketplace is available to stock investors in Malaysia. In relation to the

Malaysian market, users can make and manage watchlists, conduct stock searches, and stock
screens, and get stock alerts. The simplicity and user-friendliness of the Bursa Marketplace would
appeal to potential investors. It is good to educate and teach individual investors to experience
their first stock market ventures. Bursa Marketplace is a great platform to start for anyone to learn
and understand the basics of trading on the Malaysian stock exchange.

In the FIN552 course Investment and Portfolio Analysis, simulation trading on Bursa
Marketplace is used as a kind of ongoing assessment. The trading game-related activities started
on November 16, 2022, and ended on January 18, 2023. Each person received RM200,000 in
capital, and the instructor allowed a maximum of 100 trading transactions and a minimum of 20
transactions.

After the end of the simulation, we need to prepare a report for the whole. The content of
the report such as we need to list each of the instruments or equities we have traded and explain
the reason. Then, we need to present our overall trading performance in terms of profit, return on
investment, or other performance measures. Next, which stocks from our trading are most
profitable and unprofitable for a 2 month period. The reports are allowed to be presented based
on fundamental analysis or technical analysis. Fundamental analysis such as from the
performance of the company through their latest news while technical analysis is explained based
on indicators that have been used during trading simulation. The indicators such as moving
average, Moving Average Convergence/ Divergence (MACD), Rate of Charge (ROC), Relative
Strength Index (RSI), and Stochastic. Apart from that, we also will explain the strengths and
weaknesses of our trading strategies based on our performance. Lastly, we need to interpret
differently in terms of strategy if we do have a chance to play the trading game again.

3.0 TASK ASSIGNED

Students enrolled in the Investment and Portfolio Analysis (FIN552) course are required to
use the Bursa Marketplace Trading Platform to trade a variety of securities, including as equities,
that are either shari'ah compliant or not. Each student must take on a great deal of responsibility
in order to take advantage of a great opportunity for development and receive financial
compensation for a higher return in this trading activity. Each student received RM200,000 in
start-up money to use in this trading venture, which they used to make their first transactions. We
were also requested to develop a trade competition inside our group so that we could finish this
task in the allocated time.

We formed a five-person team and assigned each member a particular task in order to
complete this project by generating as much profit as we could by trading at Bursa Marketplace.
We previously assigned a team member the task of finding viable instruments offered on a
screener platform like tradingview.com. Two members of our group were tasked with conducting
fundamental analysis and searching the internet for pertinent news in order to increase our
confidence in trading the selected instruments, while the other two members were required to
conduct additional analysis on the technical chart of the chosen instruments in order to determine
the precise time to buy and sell the instruments.

FAIQAH
Faiqah was tasked with locating possible instruments that were posted on screener platforms
like tradingview.com and following news and economic updates.

AUNIL AND AISHALINA

Both were given the task of conducting a fundamental analysis and looking for pertinent online
news.

NATASHA AND SYAZWANI

Both were given the task of performing additional analysis on the chosen instruments' technical
chart.

8
4.0 FACTORS TO DETERMINE PRICE OF INSTRUMENTS

● Economic
The value of stocks might change rapidly. This means that stock values can change for
just for whatever reason over very short periods of time, such as a day, a month, or even a
year. Information relevant to the general economy is one area that significantly affects
stock values. Stocks can rise or fall depending on if the economy is expanding more
quickly than anticipated or slower than anticipated. As investors are concerned about the
negative effects of recessions or economic slowdowns on business profitability, these
worries can also cause shares to fall. Interest rates and inflation are strongly linked with
the overall economic situation. An expanding economy may result in increased interest
rates and inflation, which can be beneficial for stocks when used responsibly. However,
extremely robust growth can cause excessive inflation and rates, which frightens investors
who are concerned about how rates might impact capital instruments.

● Technical reasons
We short-term traders frequently use technical analysis to guide our trading choices. This
analysis forecasts the future direction of a stock using recent price movements and chart
patterns. Technical analysis can affect a stock's price in the short term, but a stock's worth
ultimately comes from the company's ability to generate earnings over the long run. All of
these factors change and are extremely challenging, if not impossible, to forecast. They
can arouse excitement or anxiety in people, and when people are feeling emotional, they
frequently desire to sell stocks or switch between sectors in an effort to predict where the
stock market will go next. The fact that there is so much movement is one of the factors
contributing to the short-term volatility of stock prices. Additionally, investors often do not
benefit from aggressive trading.

● News
Stock market may be affected by the political situation, disputes between governments or
businesses, product breakthroughs, mergers and acquisitions, and other unforeseen
events. Markets and economies around the world are linked, and because of this, news in
one nation can have an almost immediate impact on investors in another. The price of a
stock can also be impacted by company-specific news, particularly if the firm is reporting
after a weak quarter. An example of this would be the publishing of an earnings report.

9
Strong earnings typically lead to an increase in the stock price and vice versa. However,
the stock price of some businesses that aren't doing all that well is nonetheless rising.
Investors' hopes that the company will become profitable in the future are reflected in this
rising price. But, there are no assurances that a company will live up to the current
aspirations of investors to become a high-earning corporation in the future, regardless of
the stock price.

● Supply or Demand
Shares of a company's stock will be sold on the secondary market after being issued in the
main market, where they will also be bought and sold in the future. As participants in the
stock market decide whether to buy or sell, stock prices fluctuate on the secondary
market. Whether an investor or financial professional thinks the stock is cheap,
overvalued, or correctly valued determines whether to purchase, sell, or hold it. Some
consider a stock to be overvalued if it costs RM1,000 but is thought to be worth RM900. It
is seen as undervalued if it is thought to be worth RM1,100. So, why would the stock price
be RM1,000 when each share may be worth RM900 or even RM1,100? In terms of the
volume of shares being purchased and sold, it comes down to supply and demand. The
market value of a trade is set by the investors, or partial owners, who purchase and sell
among one another.

Supply and demand are indeed determined by stock prices. When we trade, if we don't
notice a difference in price, it's probably because we are only exchanging little amounts.
The price will indeed change if we try to buy or sell a particularly large amount all at once.
The "market impact" of our trade is what we refer to as. For instance, the price will
increase if we buy a lot, at least initially. A particularly large sell order that was entered
incorrectly led to the "flash crash" a few years ago. In reality, traders use limit orders to
purchase below and sell above the market price. These limit orders are activated if there
are insufficient units available at the current market price and the price sufficiently moves
up or down. Limit orders to buy can be thought of as a demand curve, while limit orders to
sell as a supply curve.

5.0 OVERALL TRADING PERFORMANCE

Nur Aunil Athirah

Ranking = 31
Trades done = 70/100
Total profit = RM235,703.00 - RM200,000 = RM35,703.00
Return of investment = 35,703/200,000 x 100% = 17.85%

When I first started playing this trading game, I was in the top 10, but after many ups and downs
throughout the game, I was in the 31st rank when the trading game ended, and I had only
managed to make a profit of RM35,703 between 16 November 2022 and 13 January 2023. I
purchased and sold shares for my overall performance without preparing a strategy to gain more
profit on shares in this trading game. I've lost a lot of stock because I lack information and
comprehension. This is because I acted rashly and bought a variety of stocks without conducting
adequate research, which led to bad results at first. I sought advice from a group of professionals
and participated in group conversations with friends on how to handle the market in order to get
back on track. I have also kept track of every exchange I made. This is due to the fact that, as a
newbie trader, I always feel unsure about the choices I make. I've done so by taking screenshots
of my transactions in order to simply assess their success in the future. In addition, I evaluate the
stock price on supply and demand in the market.

The company that has made me the most profit is MPI, with a profit of RM620, while the company
that has made me the most unprofitable is HLIND, which refers to my last transaction, with a loss
of RM950. This is a result of my lack of self-discipline in analyzing my stock's signal consistently
to buy and sell stocks at the optimal period. Due to a few company losses, it caused my profit to
drastically reduce and my ranking to drop.

Nurul Aishalina
Ranking = 34
Trades done = 101/100
Total profit = RM207,020.00 - RM200,000 = RM7,020
Return of investment = 7,020/200,000 x 100% = 3.51%

11
I was ranked at 34th place when the trading game closed, with only being able to generate a profit
of RM7,020 after weeks of playing. I have had a number of ups and downs throughout the game
duration in an effort to place highly on the scoreboard. For my overall performance, I have made
an impulsive buying and selling stock without any consideration of their indicators and company’s
performance. Due to my lack of knowledge and understanding of how trading works, I have
wasted many “transactions made”. I also buy a stock that has a stock price that was quite high for
a beginner. For example, my first transaction was on 16th November 2022, a Dutch Lady stock
which I bought at RM31.30. This stock has not generated any profit therefore, I hold it for quite
some time and finally be able to sell it when the price rises up to RM31.38 on 24th November
2022.

I managed to receive profit after a couple days of trading. This happened when the new Prime
Minister was selected, the stock involved with the said person rose sharply which is ASB. This
stock was bought on 23th November 2022 at price of RM0.18 per share and managed to sell it in
many transactions the next day at a price of RM0.26 per share. I was placed at 20th during this
time. However, the momentum is degrading when I failed to read and understand the indicators of
the stock I bought. This took me a while to get back up and generate profit. I also bought penny
stock, nevertheless, it was not enough to compensate for the loss I have made during the entire
process of trading. By the time I realised I have reached my limit of trading hence has not been
doing anything since. In conclusion, all of the shares were sold right away after the game ended
on January 13th, 2023.

Nurul Natasha
Ranking = 23
Trades done = 79/100
Total profit = RM649,625 - RM200,000 = RM449,625
Return of investment = RM449,625/ RM200,000 x 100% = 224.81%

I was ranked 23rd place from 37th on the leaderboard for FIN552 Trading Game 4B. Overall, I
managed to gain a profit of RM449,625 at the end of the trading game. I invested in various
instruments of equities. According to return on investment (ROI), I made 224.81%, which shows
that I was successful in obtaining a high return on investment and that my strategy is working to
my favor. I started the game with a safer strategy that I trade with tiny quantities of quantity units
because I am a risk-averse trader. However, because I only make small gains of RM10, my

12
technique is less successful. I was somewhat knowledgeable about this method since I knew that
when I traded in small quantities, my returns would be minimal. I started trading using several
tactics where I traded in large quantities after switching to becoming a risk taker. Finding a
suitable buy and sell signal is greatly aided by the use of technical indicator analysis. Additionally,
because penny stocks are less expensive than other companies, trading in them has helped me
boost my profit.

Nur Syazwani
Ranking = 22
Trades done = 85/100
Total profit = RM740,620.00 - RM200,000 = RM540,620.00
Return of investment = 540,620.00/200,000 x 100% = 270.31%

In the FIN552 Trading Game 4B leaderboard, I came in at position 22 out of 37. At the end of the
trading game, I was able to make a profit of RM540,620.00 in total. According to the calculation of
return on investment (ROI), I made 270.31%, which indicates that I was successful in securing a
high return on investment. Because I lack the confidence to purchase a sizable number of stocks,
I began the game by trading with modest units of stocks. But I've only made gains of such minimal
amounts. I then begin to look at the stocks screener such as investing.com to see which stocks
might be potential to earn me some profit. Besides that, I used technical analysis indicators like
the MACD, ROC, and Moving Average to analyse the price changes. However, I am unable to
decide which stocks are the best ones to purchase. To decrease the chance of suffering losses, I
then made the decision to purchase penny stocks. I'm finally able to make a sizable profit while
purchasing penny stocks. This is the reason I keep purchasing penny stocks in large quantities in
an attempt to boost my net profit.

Nur Faiqah Shuhada

Ranking = 16
Trades done = 77/100
Total profit = RM1,493,300.00 - RM200,000 = RM1,293,300
Return of investment = 1,293,300/200,000 x 100% = 646.65%

I was ranked 16th place from 37th on the leaderboard for Fin552 Trading Game 4B. One month
after the game started, I managed to earn a profit of RM1,293,300. For my overall performance, I

13
have made a good game with an average though while trading stocks. For the first 2 weeks, I did
not know how to trade so I just referred to the company info in Bursa Market Malaysia before the
trade was made. Basically, I gained profit but not as much as I trade penny stocks. After two
weeks the game started, I traded penny stocks to boost my profit and slowly level up my ranking. I
traded by using technical analysis such as analysis of moving average, ROC, and RSI. Lastly, I do
trade stocks based on news, but I suffered a big loss due to greed with profit earned on the first
attempt.

14
6.0 THE MOST PROFITABLE STOCK

ICON (NUR SYAZWANI BINTI PAUZI)

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

I used a technical analysis technique that involved analyzing the company's trendline, and it was
this approach that ultimately convinced me to buy shares of ICON. The graph demonstrates that it
has a consistent average point practically every time. As we can see from the graph, the moving
average of the stocks is in the shape of a spike. It suggests that although the stock price
increased today, it will start to decline once more the following day. In light of this, I made the
decision to invest before the stock went uptrend and then sell it after it had already increased by
0.01 point. On 23 December 2022, I began buying ICON shares at a price of RM0.09 with a
volume of 300,000. Then, I sell the stock on the same day at the price of RM0.10 which gives me
profits.

During the same day which is on 23 December 2022, the price of ICON’s shares went down to
RM0.09 back which gives me the opportunity to purchase it in high volumes. I decided to
purchase 1,000,000 of these stocks since I was sure they would appreciate in value the next day.
ICON is a penny stock that has a recurring pattern that leads me to buy it in large quantities
whenever I wish to trade because I am aware of its low risk. Because the period of the simulation
game is just about two months, this trading strategy is used to generate a large profit quickly.

15
CFM (NURUL NATASHA BINTI SUHAIMI)
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

I used a technical analysis technique that involved looking at the company's chart performance,
and it helped me make the decision to buy CFM stock. The graph demonstrates that it has an
increasing point for continuous daily time frames, which denotes the company is in a performing
position and may be able to provide investors with a higher profit and return on investment. I
purchased stock for the first time on December 20, 2022, despite the fact that technical indicators
were mostly showing a sell signal. The reason I bought the stock on that day is because I am
confident that its price will continue to rise over the long term.

If we pay attention to the Bollinger Band, we can see that the close price was RM2.43 with a
volume of RM4.401M on 20 December 2022. Traders such as us are advised to hold to sell the
stock purchase on that day since the stock prices have not yet touched the upper band. However,
since I bought at a bid price of RM2.41 with 50,000 units of volume, I managed to get more profit
when I sold at a ask price of RM2.47, of which the profit I received was RM3,000. I repeated
buying this stock on 29 December 2022 and 6 January 2023.

16
The buy decision that I made on 29 December 2022 was based on Moving Average Convergence
Divergence (MACD). As we can see from the chart, there was a buy signal where the MACD line
was above the signal line, and it shows the bull position. Although, it was actually showing a sell
signal at the same time, as the macd line was above the overbought line. I bought when the bid
price was RM2.64 with 100,000 units volume, and later sold on 4 January 2023 at a price of
RM2.68 because there was a sell signal where the MACD line crossed below the signal line and
showing a bear position. Thus, the gain that I received was RM4,000.

As for the buying decision on 6 January 2023, the indicator that I refer to is Rate of Change
(ROC). As we can see the ROC line was above equilibrium line which indicates the investors
were advised to hold on to selling stock purchase. In this case, I bought at a bid price of RM2.59
with 100,000 units volume, then I sold at a price of RM2.67 on 9 January 2023. This gives me a
profit of RM8,000. Although I understood enough that at the first place it shows a selling signal, I
took a risk by buying this stock as I already made an observation analysis on the stock’s chart and
believed it with my technical analysis.

Despite knowing that CFM is a good stock with a medium risk level compared to penny stocks, I
frequently choose to buy it and take a risk by doing so every time I wish to trade. Due to the
simulation game's short duration of two months, this trading strategy is employed to achieve a
significant profit in the short term. I made a significant profit of RM15,000.00 trading in this
company.

17
FINTEC (NUR FAIQAH SHUHADA BINTI SUKIMAN)
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

The most profitable for my stock through my trading journey is FINTEC. Due to penny stocks
being more volatile, there is a greater potential for reward and a greater level of inherent risk. In
other words, investors run the risk of losing their entire investment or a sizable portion of it.

So, among penny stocks that I list out in my watchlist such as KGROUP and VSOLAR, the most I
always trade was FINTEC due to the volatility of their price. On 23 November 2022, I bought
FINTEC stock at a close price RM0.005 with volume 3,000,000 and sold at a close price RM0.015
with volume 3,000,000 on the next day, which was on 24 November 2022. Capital gain I earned
was RM0.01. I earned a profit of RM30,000 and due to that, my ranking level has increased and I
managed to cut the line of other participants. Day by day, I earned a high gain from trading in
penny stocks so I do take a chance to substitute the loss that I trade in ASB from profit I earned in
FINTEC.

Next, from the technical chart above, ROC shows a buy signal with percentage mention -50% on
23 November 2022 as the line has touched the oversold line. Meanwhile the next day, a sell
signal occurred indicating that investors can sell the stocks. There were no signals shown in the
other indicators because the line did not cross over the overbought or oversold line. I do apply on
the other stocks to recover back my loss that I suffered from ASB.

18
MALAYSIAN PACIFIC INDUSTRIES (NUR AUNIL ATHIRAH BINTI ADNAN)
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

Technical analysis is the first strategy I've used, and it works well. It suggests that traders study
stocks and spot trading chances by assessing statistical patterns taken from market behaviours
like price fluctuations and duration. Every safeguard with a track record was used in this
investigation, including stocks, options, commodities, and other assets. It also guarantees that,
compared to my prior trading, I will rely more on short-term market changes. In addition, I've been
searching Bursa MKTPLC Mirror, Learn, and Trade for traders with relevant expertise.

MPI is the most profitable firm that I have earned in this trading game. The graph shows that I
missed the buying signal on 10 November 2022, when the price was at its lowest point (trough),
but I decided to buy on 22 November 2022, when the price was at RM26.66, due to the price will
rise at the highest price (uptrend movement) as shown at few indicators of moving average,
MACD, ROC, RSI, and stochastic. The next day the price increased to RM27.28, yet I didn't
hesitate to keep selling the stock due to fear that it would drop because the price was so volatile
at the time due to the election of our prime minister, which had an impact on it. The possibility that
the company's stockholders have links to our prime minister is one reason why this stock's price
may increase. Thus, I earned RM0.62 in profit and received a 2.33% return on my investment.

19
7.0 THE MOST UNPROFITABLE STOCK

HONG LEONG INDUSTRIES BHD (NUR AUNIL ATHIRAH BINTI ADNAN)

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

For this HLIND, I suffered a loss of RM0.38 and a -4.02% return on investment. As the above chart
illustrates, there are certain days when the stock's price fluctuates without giving any clear
indications or strong signals to sell. I misinterpreted the graph, and the ROC indicator has
indicated that the signal is at its peak (strong signal), indicating on that day is not the time to
purchase but rather to sell. I initially wish to keep the stock and wait for a gain. But after that, I
made the decision to sell the stock once it reached the lowest price of the week in order to
prevent any worse losses. When traders decide to retain the stock for a long period, it is not ideal

FUNDAMENTAL ANALYSIS
My recent deal shows my weaknesses because I was feeling emotional. As a result of my last
transaction's impractical design, I ended up losing money in this trading game. Because I
misinterpret the graph, the price is rising daily, which worries me even more. Due to the fact that I
was pursuing an extremely tight time and limit, I decided to sell the stock at its lowest price for the
week in order to prevent suffering a worse loss.

20
Most of my errors are a result of issues with avarice, insecurity, desire, regret, and false hope. Any
investor's capacity to earn money is destroyed while dealing with such emotions. The effective
implementation of one's business plan is put at risk by emotions. These emotions are related to
the investor's trading abilities and shortcomings. Greed can be influenced by impatience.
Furthermore, a lack of discipline could result in unrealistic expectations. As a result, it would
invalidate our decision. I was overconfident in my trade since I thought the stock will make money,
according to emotion analysis.

MMAG (NURUL AISHALINA BINTI ABDUL RONI)
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

The company that I have chosen to be the most unprofitable in my trading game is MMAG
(MMAG HOLDINGS BERHAD) which their main industry is Technology. As their industry is
technology, I have faith that the price is going to increase day by day hence become the reason
why I traded in this company.

Looking back at the chart, the moving average has touched the price line which indicates a signal.
Therefore, on that day I decided to buy the stock at a quantity of 700,200.00 at RM0.03 per share
which amounts to RM21,0006. I did not do a thorough technical analysis before purchasing the
shares. I just paid attention to the Moving Average indicator as at that time I still had not mastered
and fully understood how the other indicators work. Also, I saw that before I bought the stock, the
price trendline on the chart was starting to form an uptrend. There has always been a trend that
includes both an upwards and a downturn, as can be seen when we examine the historical
trendline of price changes. I therefore predicted a strong upward trend movement.

I knew that it was not a good idea to be involved in a sideways trend, however this stock has
passed that sideways. Based on what I have learned in the class, when a line has gotten out from
the sideways, it is a signal either to buy or to sell. As you can see, a few days before the day that I
bought the stock, the line had gotten out from the sideways and closed at the price of RM0.02 per
share. On 24th November 2022, the stock's moving average touched and crossed the line where
it was indicated as a buy signal. I held the stock for quite some time, waiting for another crossover

22
to happen and wanting to make a profit out of it, nevertheless, the price had never overtook the
price that I had bought earlier. I did three transactions to sell this stock, which are all being sold at
the price that I bought, RM0.03 per share and had suffered loss out of it. Also, neither MACD nor
RSI had shown a strong signal to sell.

FUNDAMENTAL ANALYSIS
MMAG Holdings Berhad's most recent balance statement showed liabilities of RM104,700,00 that
were due in a year as well as liabilities of RM280,6000,000 that are past due. It had
RM15,400,000 million in cash and RM 98,600,000 in receivables which were due in the next year
to offset this. Therefore, its liabilities total RM271,400,000 more than its cash and (near-term)
receivables combined. This shortfall hangs over the RM60,600,000 company like a monster
overshadowing ordinary beings.

Over the last 12 months, MMAG Holdings Berhad experienced an EBIT loss. It experienced an
enormous RM50,000,000 EBIT loss. Despite this, it is still feasible that the business will have
financial success. However, given that it has few liquid assets and spent RM6,300,000 in the
previous year, I believe that is highly unlikely. Therefore, I view this stock as high risk, and I would
not be shocked if the firm soon asked shareholders for funding. It was definitely a mistake of mine
to be unable to foresee what would happen in this company’s stock given that all the amount in
the report has shown me a clue. As short-term investors, it is known that the loss coverage is
short, which for us, is 2 months to protect against loss if the investment is fruitless. Whereas it
should have been, in a relatively short period of time, investors can achieve significant returns.

23
MUIIND (NURUL NATASHA BINTI SUHAIMI)
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

The most unprofitable stock in my trading game is MUIIND. I decided to purchase MUIIND stock
using a technical analysis technique that entailed examining the performance of the company's
chart. I did not do a thorough technical analysis before purchasing the stock. Before I bought the
stock, the price trendline on the chart was starting to form an uptrend. I purchased stock for the
first time on November 24, 2022, despite the fact that technical indicators were mostly showing a
sell signal. The reason I bought the stock on that day is because I believe that its price will
continue to rise over the long term as the previous monthly data showing the steady and slow
increment of the stock prices.

However, my stock analysis was inaccurate because I purchased the stock after the buy signal
had passed on November 22, 2022, according to the Moving Average Convergence Divergence
(MACD). This is because the MACD line was crossing above the signal line, which indicates bull
position. However, the crossover is just for temporary use since there was a whipsaw signal on 30
November 2022. This occurred as a result of my inexperience in reading technical indicators at
the time, which caused confusion and led to an incorrect interpretation of the data. Since I
purchased the stock at its highest peak price, I continued to experience losses throughout the
trading game. Knowing that there would be a downtrend following the biggest peak indicates that
investors will frequently sell their shares.

24
The strong signal of buying that I should trade can be seen on 9 December 2022 based on Rate
of Change (ROC), where there is a sharp trough and the ROC line was below the oversold line.
The ROC value is -37.5%. Meanwhile, the best-selling signal can be seen on 15 December 2022,
where the ROC line is waiting for the signal of hold to sell in which the value of ROC is 6.3%.
Investors might choose whether to sell the stock at this time or to hold off for a while.
Nevertheless, the total losses that I incurred was RM1,500, where I bought the stock at a price of
RM0.13 with a volume of 30,000 units, then I sold it at a price of RM0.08 on 14 January 2023. As
you can see, I took about two months waiting for the crossover to happen on the chart.
Unfortunately, I am not successful in getting profit under this stock.

25
EURO (NUR SYAZWANI BINTI PAUZI)
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

As for EURO, I have implemented technical analysis to analyse the trendline of the graph. Before
I started purchasing the stocks, the trendline of the price showed that the price was increasing.
Beginning in October, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) diagram illustrates
an upward trend. Since MACD has not demonstrated any signs of falling, I had predicted that the
trend will rise significantly. I anticipated that this would happen. I decided to purchase the stock
when it was trending upward, which was the optimum time to do so. However, the trendline had
already started to decrease when I bought the stock. I just realised that I had bought the stocks
during its peak price which was quite possible for it to become higher again.

I bought EURO stocks on 27 December 2022 at the price of RM0.14 with a volume of 200,000.
After I purchased the stocks, the price of the stocks slowly fell which resulted in big losses. I
waited until the month of January 2023, but its price kept falling down. That is why I decided to
sell the stocks on 14 January at the price of RM0.12. As we can see from the graph above, the
closed price on 20 January 2023 was RM0.12 which is quite possible to increase back up to
RM0.14.

26
FUNDAMENTAL ANALYSIS
According to fundamental analysis, EURO Holdings Berhad has not published its annual report for
the year 2022. By looking at the past 5 years, the company has suffered losses in the years 2017,
2018, 2019, and 2021. Furthermore, the return on equity (ROE) of the company shows negative
values during the past 5 years. Return on equity is a profitability ratio that evaluates a company's
capacity to return investors' capital in the form of profits. In my opinion, this information might be a
big hint to me before making a decision. But due to my mistake, I did not go deep into their annual
report which led me to make the wrong decision on purchasing stocks. Investors would always
invest their money in a company that is more stable in terms of profits and management so that
they would make the right decision and gain high profits.

27
ASB (NUR FAIQAH SHUHADA BINTI SUKIMAN)
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

Company that I have chosen the most unprofitable is ASB. Before I decided to make ASB
unprofitable through my trading journey, I sold my stock at A price of RM0.29 and gained a profit
of RM3,000 on the evening of 24 November 2022 due to the official announcement of the new
Malaysia's 10th Prime Minister, Dato' Sri Anwar Ibrahim. On that day, the Malaysian ringgit surged
and Malaysia's stock exchange rocketed to its biggest gain in over two years. Due to my
persistence in gaining profit and at the same time not having full knowledge of technical analysis, I
made a mistake by deciding to buy ASB stock at RM0.29 assuming the price will increase more.
At that time, I did not refer to technical analysis at first, as we can see from the chart above, the
price of the stock dropped again like before the announcement after 24 November 2022.

On 24 November 2022, the MACD indicator showed that there was no signal to buy because the
line MACD and the line signal did not cross over. Meanwhile, the ROC indicator shows a whipsaw
trendline. The line has broken the overbought line but drops again until it breaks the oversold line.
Lastly, from the chart attached, we can see the RSI indicator also shows a whipsaw that breaks
the overbought line and drops again until it touches the oversold line. should be on that day, there
were no buying signals, and investors are not suggested to buy stocks but I did it.
My ASB stock sold at RM0.17 per share on 14 January 2023 which means I lost RM12,000 which
indicates that ASB is my most unprofitable investment. Gladly, even though I lost RM12,000 in

28
stock ASB, I managed to gain profit from penny stocks as I have mentioned in my most profitable
stock. From 24 November 2022 until 14 January 2023, I held my stocks for quite a long time due
to waiting to have a sell signal so the losses are not much as now. But from what I have seen,
there were no signals.

29
8.0 STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES OF THE TRADING STRATEGIES

The first strength of the trading strategies is technical analysis graphs. We may more
easily study the stock's price and volume by looking at the technical analysis graph. The fact that
technical analysis is price-based is one of its benefits. It makes price predictions by examining
historical data. In addition, whether price movements are ascending or lowering, support and
resistance levels help us understand them. We may decide whether to buy or sell the stock based
on the trend. Not only that, in technical analysis graphs, we may add a few indicators which helps
us more in analyzing the trend of the graph in each instrument we purchase. The indicators we
use are the rate of change (ROC), moving average (MA), moving average convergence
divergence (MACD), stochastic, and relative strength index (RSI).

The second strength of the trading strategies is through performing fundamental analysis.
This analysis relates to the news announcement, which aids us in selecting the best stocks from
among the many stocks listed on Bursa Malaysia. For instance, investors are typically cautious
when selling their stocks when there was a lot of news about the Bursa Malaysia stock market
steadily declining as a result of the upcoming GE15 (General Election 15). The assumption that
equities such as ASB, MUIIND, and DNEX would rise before GE15 was good news at that time.
Therefore, most of us traded those stocks and managed to get some profits from it. However,
after the results of GE15, it can be claimed that the equities stopped rising. Additionally, on
November 22, 2022, the news on Buletin TV3 highlighted a number of profitable stocks and
unprofitable stocks for the day, including TIMECOM, HEXTECH, BAT (profitable stocks), and
NESTLE, BKAWAN, and PPB (unprofitable stocks). It helps us a lot in selecting which stocks to
trade and can increase our total trade value, as well as improve our ranking in the trading game
FIN552.

The third one, the strength of the trading strategies is persistence trading in penny stocks.
One of our team, Faiqah Shuhada, manages to earn high profits from trading in penny stocks.
While doing technical analysis, we need the courage to buy units of stock in huge amounts. As we
know, penny stocks are volatile, so when buy signals occur, the attemption should be done in the
right way by buying the stocks in bulk in order to earn high profit. Some of us in the team did not
have a chance to try it due to our trades attempt done earlier and wasted on the other stocks
when we were beginners learning the indicator of technical analysis.

30
WEAKNESSES OF THE TRADING STRATEGIES

The first weakness is, the failure in pinpointing the highest peak period of the company’s
stock price. It is understood that each company has its own highest peak and momentum which
are generated differently according to the factors that influence the price instruments, eg, news,
and economy. As we hesitated about whether it is the highest peak, the time has gone by. Due to
the hesitation, a new price line has been generated and showed that the price has shown a new
trend which in our case, the highest peak has resulted in a downtrend and takes a few days to
form a new uptrend. Therefore we missed selling the stocks at the highest possible price and
getting the highest return for that day. It took a new trend for the stock to be able to generate
another highest peak. To conclude, it is unknown to determine the period when the highest peak
will be generated unless a thorough analysis is done and many indicators are used in doing so.

Moreover, we depend too much on what other people advise us to purchase or sell, which
makes our trading strategies vulnerable. Even when the cause of the price rise or fall is unknown,
we frequently let what others say affect us or what we refer to as trading psychology. Trading
psychology is the study of the thoughts and feelings that influence whether a trader will succeed
or fail. Different aspects of a person's personality and habits that affect their trading activities are
represented by trading psychology. Two of the most important elements of trading psychology are
discipline and risk-taking since a trader's ability to put these elements into practice is essential to
the success of their trading strategy. Thoughts like hope and regret also play a part in trading
behaviour, while fear and greed are frequently linked to trading psychology.

Additionally, we were unable to completely concentrate on this transaction and analyse

price and market movements owing to classes and other responsibilities. For instance, we
frequently overlook certain strong signals from certain indicators like ROC, RSI, and others. By
efficiently managing our time, we may eventually learn from our mistakes. Beginner traders are
more likely to fail due to their emotions while buying and selling stocks quickly. Due to news or the
market, we frequently purchase equities when they are at their highest price (peak) and sell at
their lowest price (trough).

31
9.0 STRATEGY TO INVEST IN THE FUTURE

The first strategy that we suggest is to conduct technical analysis by using candlestick
measurement. This is because the candlestick measurement is more accurate and easier to read
especially for short-term traders. The "real body" of the candlestick is the candlestick's widest
part. The price range between the opening and closing prices of that trading day is represented by
this real body. It indicates that the close was lower than the open when the real body is filled in or
becomes red. The close was higher than the open if the genuine body was empty or became
green. A red or filled candlestick is bearish and denotes selling pressure since it shows that the
closing price for the period was lower than the opening price. A green or hollow candlestick, on
the other hand, indicates that the closing price was higher than the opening price. This indicates
buying pressure and is bullish. Besides, we also can use price patterns such as inside and
outside bars. For example, the candlestick chart of MUIIND in figure 1 below, shows there was a
bearish outside bar where both the first and second bars contradict and incur retracement where
there was a breakout in the resistance line of the earlier bar. Hence, investors are advised to sell
the stocks.

Figure 1: Bearish Outside Bars

32
Furthermore, we recommend keeping track of news regarding the stocks. Given how
quickly news may spread through digital media, trading by looking up to the news might require a
knowledgeable and skilled mindset. As soon as the news is published, investors must evaluate it
and decide quickly how to trade it. For example, the latest news related to the Prime Minister,
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. During that time, the price of a few stocks grew rapidly. The most
actively traded stock on Bursa Malaysia was Advance Synergy Bhd, with 1.65 billion shares
bought and sold, up 10 sen or 57% to 27.5 sen a share. Malayan United Industries Bhd, which
gained 2 sen or 20% to 12 sen per share, was the second-most actively traded stock, while Pan
Malaysia Holdings Bhd increased by 3.5 sen or 44% to 11.5 sen per share. Investors who bought
those stocks during their troughs would gain higher profits as the price of those stocks keeps
increasing. Those who are alert on such news would be better at planning how to trade
successfully. Besides that, news on the company’s stability is also important to look up before
trading as it helps investors to analyse the company in terms of its profitability or others.

The last strategy that we suggest is by buying and investing in penny stocks. Penny stocks
are a colloquial term for inexpensive, low-cost shares of small, frequently recently listed
companies. The term "penny stocks" is used in Malaysia in several multiple circumstances.
According to certain definitions, it refers to publicly traded companies having a market size of
fewer than RM200,000,000, hence why penny stocks are known as equities in Malaysia. They
can also be described as stocks with a value of less than RM1. However, given that some penny
stocks feature prices that seem to go far higher than RM1, this term is also rather ambiguous.
Because of their low cost and potential for growth, penny stocks are frequently sought after by
investors, but they also carry some hazards. The cons of trading in penny stock is that they are
low priced. Due to this reason, investors can hold a diversified portfolio of penny stocks
companies without needing to spend much. With our RM200,000, it is definitely suitable for us to
trade in this penny stock, for example, we have chosen to invest in Vsolar. This company’s price
is only RM0.005 per share. They can increase their share price at RM0.01 and be up to RM0.015
however, this is quite rare. If we buy at a quantity of 1,000,000, with a price of RM0.005, it will be
worth RM5,000. When the price increases to RM0.010, we can sell it and will gain a profit of
RM10,000. Examples of penny stock are Vsolar, Kgroup, and Nexgram. Our team should explore
more on penny stocks if we have a chance to trade again.

33
10.0 CONCLUSION

To conclude, there are ups and downs in playing this trading game. It is significant to have
a wide knowledge of this trading game in order to generate the highest return from every
transaction made. Also, fully utilised every indicator that we learned helps in deciding which stock
is worth buying. It permits us to adapt to price changes and put a positive spin on fluctuations by
recognising the figures, trends, and price levels. Indicators help investors a lot in deciding the
trend and the fluctuations, not to forget that fundamental analysis also plays a huge role.
Successful short-term trading requires an understanding of and mastery of a number of
fundamental ideas. Knowing the fundamentals can make the distinction between a losing
transaction and a successful one.

Developing a strategy before starting trading also aids in choosing a company’s stock as it
influences the whole students’ performance in getting a profit in a short span of time as well as
fulfilling the investment goals. The trading strategy monitors the risks, returns, and effects of
recent trades upon that investment of a trader. To create the best trading strategy for a short-term
investment, traders need to take their time-based risk tolerance into account. Lower-risk asset
classifications that diversify the portfolio and assist investors to avoid losses and secure rewards
may be tolerated in short-term investments.

Overall, for this trading game, the entire performance, we can say through the final amount
of the total game value. The highest total value games were gained by Nur Faiqah Shuhada with
RM1,493,300.00, followed by Nur Syazwani with RM740,620.00, followed closely by Nurul
Natasha RM649,625.00, Nur Aunil Athirah with RM235,703.00 and lastly Nurul Aishalina with
RM207,020.00.
