This document provides information about flow duration curves and power duration curves for a river. It includes a table of average monthly river flows ranked from highest to lowest. It calculates the adjusted flows by subtracting 10 cubic meters per second to maintain ecosystem flows. It then calculates the percentage of time each flow is equaled or exceeded. Finally, it uses the flows to calculate the corresponding power outputs using a formula. The document defines firm, medium, and secondary power based on the exceedance percentages and provides a graph comparing the flow and power duration curves. It notes an error in one of the computed power values and clarifies the x-axis label on the graph.

Question One

Flow duration curve

According to the California plotting position,
P = (i / n) x 100% Where,
P = percentage probability of the flow magnitude being equaled or exceeded
I = rank of the data
n = total number of data point
Since 10 m3 /s must be left in the river to maintain the ecosystem the flow has to be adjusted.

Percentage of Time, P

Firm power is Power at 100% flow exceedance our case for Q=45
Medium Power is Power for 50% flow exceedance for our case Q=107
Secondary power is maximum power that can be released from maximum flow exceedance.
Q=203
Please check the power column valuess computed from
Power= 0.167751Q
Eg for the first value for Q is 203 in the table above
Power=0.167751×203
34.05MW not 32.38MW as you computed please check the computations.
Also on the x axis the label is Percentage of times flow is equalled or exceeded.
