Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Review of Related Literature

This model arbitrarily assumes that expressiveness and instrumentality are separate

dimensions, and that expressiveness is always women gender role whereas

instrumentality is that of men. Work and family interactions are embedded in the

broader cultural, institutional and economic context in which individuals reside (Oilier-

Malaterre and Foucault, 2017).

Jal Masco (2014), in his article in a local newspaper accounted that there is a very small

fraction of teachers who opt to specialize and teach science and mathematics. With the

need for a gender balance among teachers, the study aims to connect gender gaps, or

equality, in science and mathematics education quality offered in the basic education

(K-12 level) to influences in the inclination of a student to teaching science and

mathematics.

The study of Terrier (2016) confirms that female teachers can be an important factor

adversely affecting boys’ academic achievement. Starting off from the hypothesis now

widely discussed in the literature that teacher biases can be a significant factor

adversely affecting gender equality, Terrier explores teacher’s favoritism in grading

students’ examination answers. Employing rigorous quantitative causal modeling on a

French data set and using a combination of blind and non-blind test scores.

Review of Related Studies

Retelsdorf et al. (2015) found negative associations between teachers’ gender

stereotype and boys’ reading self-concept, disadvantaging male students in their

reading achievement. They point out that stereotypes can explain the long-term

development of self-concepts as a relatively stable personal characteristic. This, in

relation with theories on self-fulfilling prophecy, may be one explanation of manifested

differences over the course of schooling.

UNESCO (2017) reports on girls’ and women’s education in STEM find that, to date,

girls are still underrepresented in choosing STEM disciplines for studying and as their

career paths. Also international comparative studies observe similar patterns.

recent studies have shown that there is still a division of house chores by gender,

depending on the gender role nuclei: instrumentality inside and outside home for men;

expressiveness and instrumentality inside home for women (Fernández et al., 2016).

Theoretical Framework

Conceptual Framework

The conceptual framework of this study is using the input-process-output. The input

frame displays the profile of the respondents and the statement of the problem. The

process frame refers to steps that the researcher will take regarding data retrieval

covering the survey and documentation of the results gathered. The output frame

covers the implication of data gathered and The Impact of Gender Inequality on The

inequality on student’s behavior of Saint Benilde International School

GENERAL PROBLEM

9. The people being judge will feel a depression or anxiety and be afraid to socialize.

10. . Should we change this belief we used to be?

Scope and Limitations

This study focuses on The Impact of Gender Inequality on The Students Behavior of

Saint Benilde International School. The researchers have limited the respondents only

to grade 12 students from General Academic Strand. Only 150 students were used as

a sample in conducting the survey. This research is limited only to the

Grade 12 students of general Academic Strand.

Significance of the Study

The purpose of this study is to know the possible Impact of Gender Inequality on The

Students Behavior of Saint Benilde International School that may benefit the

Chapter 2

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

In conducting the study, the researchers employed a descriptive research design.

Questionnaires were used as data gathering tool to determine the effects of The Impact

of Gender Inequality on The Students Behavior of Saint Benilde International School

on the academic performance of students.

Population and Sampling

The study will be conducted of students in General Academic Strand (GAS) at saint

benilde international School with a total of (150) respondents through survey

questionaries.

Participants of the Study

The respondents of this study will be the grade 12 students of General Academic Strand

(GAS) strands of Saint Benilde International School.

Research instrument

The researchers will use survey questionnaires as the principal tool in gathering and

collecting data. The drafts of the questionnaire were drawn out based on the

researcher’s readings, and relevant to the study.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers will ask for help from the advisers of the General Academic Strand

(GAS) to help them gather the respondent's 150; answers in the survey questionnaires.

The researchers will provide the survey questionnaire through a Google form, and

they will automatically process the answers of the respondents. Once the data needed

are gathered, the researcher will compile it. After gathering and compiling the data,

the researchers will do the tallying of the scores and apply the statistical treatment to

be used in this study.

Data Analysis

The following are the statistics applied for the study:

1. Frequency and Percentage Distribution

A percentage frequency distribution is a display of data that specifies the percentage

of observations that exist for each data point or grouping of data points. It is a

particularly useful method of expressing the relative frequency of survey responses

and other data. The process of creating a percentage frequency distribution involves

first identifying the total number of observations to be presented; then counting the

total number of observations within each data point or grouping of data points; and

then dividing the number of observations within each data point or grouping of data

points by the total number of observations. The sum of all the percentages

corresponding to each data. The frequency of each response will be determined by the

number of respondents who will answer the given questionnaire. The data gathered

of the respondents will be determined using the formula of percentage.
