1. Clean the outer surface of the crankshaft with 169-5464 Quick Cure Primer .
2. The crankshaft seals must be installed with the lip of the seals, as shown. Ensure that the correct seal
is installed on each end of the crankshaft.

Note: No lubrication is needed to install the wear sleeves and the seals.
3. Do not separate the seals from the sleeves. Install the seal groups as a unit on each end of the engine
with the correct tools.

The 1U-6431 Piston Ring Groove Gauge is necessary for measuring ring grooves in keystone style pistons.
Refer to the instruction card that is included within the gauge group for the correct use of the gauge group.
The ring should be installed with the side marked "UP-1" toward the top of the piston.
The ring should be installed with the side marked "UP-2" toward the top of the piston.
When the piston ring is installed in a cylinder liner that has a bore size of 120.70 mm (4.752 inch), the
specific clearance between the ends of the piston ring is the following value:
Thickness of a new top ring ... 3.150 - 0.020 mm (0.1240 - 0.0008 inch)
Thickness of a new intermediate ring ... 2.375 - 0.020 mm (0.0935 - 0.0008 inch)
For each 0.03 mm (0.001 inch) increase in the cylinder liner bore size, the clearance between the ends of the
piston ring increases by 0.08 mm (0.003 inch).
The spring ends of the oil control ring should be assembled 180 degrees from the ring end gap. The blue
colored portion of the spring must be visible at the ring end gap.
Width of the piston groove for the new oil control ring ... 4.033 ± 0.013 mm (0.1588 ± 0.0005 inch)
Thickness of the new oil control ring ... 3.98 ± 0.01 mm (0.1567 ± 0.0004 inch)

Note: Apply 4C-4030 Thread Lock Compound to the threads of the two bolts and to the jam nut prior to
assembly.
(7) Assemble the thrust plate with the marking away from the drive idler shaft.
Note: Align camshaft gear (8) and crankshaft gear (10) by using the timing marks "V", as shown.
Timing Procedure

1. Insert 7N-1048 Fuel Pump Timing Pin (13) in the timing hole of the fuel injection pump.
2. Install the fuel pump drive gear (1) , the washer (2) and the bolt (3) . Finger tighten the bolt.
3. Rotate the crankshaft in direction of the engine rotation and insert the timing bolt in the engine
flywheel in order to position the number one piston in top dead center on compression stroke.
4. With fuel pump timing pin and the timing bolt in the engaged position, tighten the bolt (3) to 68 N·m
(50 lb ft).
6. Remove the fuel pump timing pin and the timing bolt. Replace the cover.
