FINAL SPEAKING TEST – COURSE 2

Semester 1 - Year 2022-2023

SAMPLE TEST
Duration: Approximately 7-8 minutes/ pair

PART 1 – SHORT INTERACTIONS (3 minutes)

Examiner: Good morning/afternoon. My name is _________. I’m your examiner
today. Can I have your student card/ID, please?
Candidate A: Good morning, Ms./Mr._________. Here is my student card.
Candidate B: Good morning, Ms./Mr._________. Here it is.
Examiner: Now, what’s your full name?
(To Candidate A)
Candidate A: My full name is ___________.
Examiner: Thank you.
(To Candidate A)
Examiner: And, what’s your name?
(To Candidate B)
Candidate B: My full name is ___________.
Examiner: Thank you.
(To Candidate B)
Examiner: For the first part, I would like to ask you some questions about a
particular topic. We will start with __________ (name of candidate A)
first. Let’s talk about homelessness.
Are there more homeless people in your city now than in the past?
Candidate A: Yes. I think it is more common now than 20 years ago. And after the
Covid-19 pandemic, the number of people who fell into homelessness has
increased.
Examiner: Why do you think people end up being homeless?
Candidate A: Well, there are many reasons why people end up being homeless. But I
believe the most common ones are that they don’t have a job and can’t
afford to rent a house.
Examiner: What can be done to help homeless children?
Candidate A: To help homeless children, we can find them a shelter where they are
provided with food and clothes and other necessities. They will be
educated and grow up like normal children there.
Examiner: Thank you. Now, over to you, __________ (name of candidate B). Let’s
talk about recycling. Are you good at recycling?
Candidate B: Yes. I try to recycle as much as possible. I often recycle things like plastic
bottles, cans, paper, glass, and cardboard.

Examiner: Why do you think we should reuse and recycle?
Candidate B: Reuse and recycling bring many benefits to the environment. For
example, we can reduce landfill spaces, save energy, and save our own
money.
Examiner: How can we raise people’s awareness about recycling?
Candidate B: I think we can design and public electric posters of tips on reuse and
recycling things. Or we can make funny videos to educate people about
the importance of recycling to the environment.
Examiner: Thank you!

PART 2 – LONG DISCUSSION (4-5 minutes)

Examiner: Now, let’s move on to the second part. In this part of the test, you are
going to discuss with each other about the following topic: What
personal characteristics do you think most successful people have? And
why? (give the card to candidates)
You may use the suggested ideas or your own ideas in the discussion. You
have 2 minutes to prepare, and you can take notes during the
preparation.
(After 2 minutes of preparation) Time’s up. Are you ready? Let’s talk
together.
Candidate A: Personally, I think confidence is a character that most successful people
have. Confident people have the ability to show themselves and be
decisive when in most of situations.
Candidate B: Exactly! And when people believe in themselves, they dare to try new
things and are not afraid of failure.
Candidate A: I agree with you. So how about patience?
Candidate B: That’s a good idea. Patience is important, too. I have read about many
successful people kept following their goals even though they were facing
a lot of challenges.
Candidate A: Right! So patience and confidence can help people gain success in their
life.
Candidate B: Yeah, I think we should build those good personal characteristics as soon
as possible to achieve future goals.
Examiner: Thank you. That’s the end of the test.
