DRY-DOCKING REPORT
VESSEL: Happy Diamond
OWNER: Spliethoff Bevrachtings B.V.
SUPERINTENDENT: Mr. Duane HOUTZAGER
JOTUN: Jon TATA
YARD: Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam – The Netherlands
CONTRACTOR: Braspenning Coatings B.V.
DATE: 17-05-2021 till 29-05-2021
Dock inspection performed on 19-05-2021 at approx. 9:00 o clock after HPW was finished.
Participants: Mr. Duane HOUTZAGER (owner’s representative), Mr. Jeroen METTEN (S/C
representative), Mr. Colin (contractors’ representative), the undersigned.
Topside:
Fair amount of corrosion and mechanical damage dispersed over the surface, especially at the
usual places (boottop/waterline, bell months, fwd) due to friction of ropes and chains. Other
contaminants such as oil, grease and mud are present especially amid ship. The topside will be
painted with a competitor’s product.
Verticals:
Fair amount of fouling in form of slime, algae and barnacles can be seen scattered across the
area. The anti-fouling coating is mostly polished on places scattered across the area, with some
places presenting a good amount of anti-fouling still left. Later in the project the undersigned found
out that the hull was painted with a high DFT ice breaker paint, reason being the high film
thickness present. Rust penetrations, mechanical damage, and delamination (AF/Primers) are
also present in several places.
After HPW, barnacles’ feet remain attached to the surface.
Flat bottom:
Likewise, fair amount of fouling in form of slime, algae and barnacles can be seen scattered
across the area. In larger amount than on the verticals, mechanical damage, rust penetration, and
delamination (AF/Primers, AF/Surface) can be seen. Later in the project the undersigned found
out that the hull was painted with a high DFT ice breaker paint, reason being the high film
thickness present. The surface of the old dock blocks can be seen in larger than normal cases,
from the previous dockings. Anti-fouling film, were intact and not damaged, presents itself in a
good condition. After HPW, barnacles’ feet remain attached to the surface.

PRE-TREATMENT AND APPLICATION
17-05-2021
18-05-2021
19-05-2021
Around 9:00 o clock in the morning, the undersigned met with Mr. SI Duane HOUTZAGER and Mr. Jeroen
METTEN to evaluate the coating condition and to discuss further details.
S/C finished with HPW cleaning min. 350 bar.
The undersigned observed that after HPW cleaning was finished, barnacles feet are still present scattered
across the area, advise was given to remove these prior to painting (barnacles not being a suitable surface
to paint on, thus it could leave to coating failures) by means of sweep blasting.
- Flat bottom: HPW min. 350 bar, power tool cleaning to min. St2, 1 x T/U Jotamastic Alu 80 WG,
1 x T/U Safeguard Uni ES Red, 1 x T/U Seaforce 90 (SPL) Light Red, 1 x F/C Seaforce 90(SPL)
Dark Red
- Verticals: HPW min. 350 bar, power tool cleaning to min. St2, 1 x T/U Jotamastic Alu 80 WG,
1 x T/U Safeguard Uni ES Red, 1 x F/C Seaforce 90 (SPL) Light Red, 1 x F/C Seaforce 90(SPL)
Dark Red
- Top Side: Would be done with a competitor
It was decided that no further action will take place against the barnacle feet and that these will be over
coated.
Later that day S/C started with power tool cleaning to min. St2 on TS fwd.
20-05-2021
21-05-2021
S/C still busy with power tool cleaning to min. St2 on verticals and on flat bottom.
As informed by S/C, the evening shift will finish power tool cleaning.
22-05-2021
4/31
Arrived at approx. 13:30 in the midday, S/C not present.
Met with Mr. SI Duane HOUTZAGER and together we assessed the progress and the condition of the
work that has been done. It was advised to hose down before the 1st touch up with Jotamastic 80
Aluminum, as per the Painting Specification or at least to clean the spots prior to painting and later on
before the full coat is applied, to hose the entire hull down, as specified.
Having contact with the S/C, it was unknown if an evening shift would be present or not.
23-05-2021
The undersigned arrived at 8:30 in the morning, S/C started spray painting the 1st T/U layer of
Jotamastic 80 Aluminum on the Verticals at approx. 8:00. Once again, advise regarding the surface
cleanliness was given to the S/C. First layer of T/U with Jotamastic 80 Aluminum was finished around
midday.
Having foreseen bad weather and taking in regard the mechanical work at the rudder and propeller, the
S/C had applied later in the afternoon, the 2nd layer Safeguard Uni ES Plum/Red in order to first finish the
aft of the vessel to confer conditions for the mechanical crew. SI was informed and has agreed with S/C
plan.
24-05-2021
Christian Holliday, S/C did not perform any work on the vessel.
25-05-2021
S/C started spray painting the aft of the ship with Seaforce 90 (SPL) Dark Red and Safeguard Uni ES
Plum/Red as a 2nd layer at the fwd of the vessel.
Advised the S/C that according to the Painting Specification we should use Seaforce 90 (SPL) Light Red
as a 3rd full layer on the SB and not Seaforce 90 (SPL) Dark Red.
Met with both Mr. SI Duane HOUTZAGER and Mr. Hassan DINC (S/C foreman) to discuss the change.
Mr. Hassan DINC stated that there will be not enough time to paint both layers on the aft of the vessel
because of mechanical work and he suggested to paint 2 times in the same day with Seaforce 90 (SPL)
Dark Red.
The undersigned advised that this is not according to the Painting Specification, the drying time and not
according to the TDS.
Mr. SI Duane HOUTZAGER has agreed with the S/C plan, the aft of the vessel has been painted 2 times
in Seaforce 90 (SPL) Dark Red , also the 3rd layer of T/U on the FB would be done with Seaforce 90
(SPL) Light Red instead of Dark Red. A total of 20 drums of anti-fouling were applied at aft of the vessel.
Evening shift completed the cleaning and spray painting of the sea chests in Seaforce 90 (SPL) Dark
Red.
26-05-2021
Conditions were measured, air humidity too high and dew point too low, S/C waits.
At 8:50, conditions were good, the S/C commenced with spray painting the Verticals with the 3rd layer
Seaforce 90 (SPL) Light Red as a full coat. Around 14:30 in the midday the S/C finished paint application
on Verticals as a full coat and FB as a 3rd touch up coat with Seaforce 90 (SPL) Light Red.
5/31
A total of 58 drums of Seaforce 90 (SPL) Light red were used, 10 for the T/U on the FB and 48 as F/C on
the Verticals.
Evening shift applied 4 more drums of anti-fouling Seaforce 90 (SPL) Dark Red on SB, as stated by the
S/C, the painting conditions were good.
27-05-2021
The undersigned arrived at the shipyard at approx. 7:30 in the morning. Weather conditions were not
good, it was raining.
Discussed with S/C, the plan is to start with the 4 th F/C application on the FB as soon as the conditions
were good and later when surface is dry to continue with the application of the last layer on the SB.
Approx. at 11:00 in the morning, conditions were taken by both the undersigned and the S/C and spray
painting has begun on the FB with Seaforce 90 (SPL) Dark Red.
Around 13:30 in the midday the S/C finished spray painting on the FB and began application on
Verticals. Weather conditions remain good throughout the day.
At approx. 20:00 in the evening, S/C finished spray application as a F/C on both Verticals and FB giving
a total of 91 drums of paint applied of Seaforce 90 (SPL) Dark Red and 58 Seaforce 90 (SPL) Light Red.
3 drums remain for the outlining and eventual touch ups that need to be done.
Jotun’s representative was present until the entire anti-fouling application was finished.
Evening shift started with paint application by roll as a T/U on the TS with topcoat.
28-05-2021
Mechanical work is almost finished, vessel expected to exit dock the following day.

CONCLUSIONS/ DEFICIENCIES
Advice was given concerning the pre-treatment and the coating system specified on the hull,
however the owner felt comfortable with his decision doing otherwise, as mentioned in the
Painting Specification.
Advice was given concerning the painting schedule, Top Sides to be finished to ensure that no
overspray drains or drops come on the anti-fouling coating, this may jeopardize the performance
of the anti-fouling. One decided to complete A/F application first, prior to roller the TS.
Painting on barnacles’ feet may cause premature failure of the coating system, such as cracking,
blisters. One decided not to remove these prior to painting.
It has been decided that the Top Sides will be painted with a competitor’s product.
Hosing down was not commenced after power tooling was finished. Paint applied over dust and
other debris.
An anti-fouling distribution plan was sent to both S/C and to the owner’s representative.
Finally, I would like to express my utmost appreciation towards the Superintendent and staff of the
vessel for a great cooperation throughout.
