MATERIALS AND TOOLS USED:
Monaco Mercerized Cotton Thread in light pink and darker shade of pink
1.10mm Crochet Hook
(2) Safety eyes 3mm
Stitch Marker
Tapestry/sewing needle
Toy stuffing
Scissors/glue
keychain (optional)

GAUGE:
You can use any yarn that you prefer or have on hand for this project
with an appropriate sized hook that’s tight enough that gaps are not
clearly visible.

TERMINOLOGY:
This pattern uses US terminology and is worked in a continuous round.

FINISHED SIZE:
Using a 1.10mm size hook with Monaco Mercerized Cotton 8. My axolotl
came out 2cm/1 inch tall.

ABBREVIATIONS
R- round :
ch – chain
st – stitch
sc– single crochet
dc – double crochet
tc – treble crochet
inc – increase
dec – invisible decrease
(..) – number of stitches in the round

Axolotl Pattern

Using 1.10mm hook and light pink yarn.


R1 - start off by doing 6 sc in magic ring (6)
R2 - inc in each st around (12)
R3 - (inc, sc in next st) x 6 (18)
R4 - (inc, sc in next 2 st) x 6 (24)
R5 - sc in each st around (24)
R6 - sc in each st around (24)
R7 - (inc, sc in next 3 st) x 6 (30)
R8-14 - sc in each st around (7 rounds) (30)
Insert safety eyes between Round 6 & 7 (about 6 stitches apart)
R15 - (dec, sc in next 3 st) x 6 (24)
R16 - (dec, sc in next 2 st) x 6 (18)
Start filling body with polyfill here
R17 - (dec, sc in next 1 st) x 6 (12)
R18 - dec in each st around (6)
Finish off and add more stuffing until body is well-shaped.
Sew close.

Feet - Make 4 in light pink
Leave long tail before you start your chain
Ch 2, hdc in 2nd ch from hook
Cut thread leave long tail for sewing.

Left Gill
Make in the darker shade of pink. Leave long tail before you start your chain fo
sewing
1. Ch 4, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch
2. Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch down
3. Ch 3, sc in next 2 chains down
Cut thread with long tail for sewing
For the right side we will do the same pattern but in reverse order:

Right Gill
1. Ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch A video demo on how

Cut thread with long tail for sewing.

Tail - Make in light pink


R1 - Do 4sc in magic ring (4)
R2 – (inc, sc in next st) x 2 (6)
R3 – (inc, sc in next 2 st) x 2 (8)
R4 – (inc, sc in next 3 st) x 2 (10)
Cut thread and leave long tail for sewing

BABY AXOLOTL PATTERN – Assembly

1. Sew the top side of the gill (the one where you made
an hdc between rounds 4 & 5 then place the bottom
end of the gill (the one with only 3 chains) between
rounds 7&8. Sew the length of the gills to the main
body securely with thread or using the yarn tails.

2. Sew the mouth on the same round where you


inserted the eyes.

3. Sew the front legs directly under the eyes


between rounds 9 & 10. Sew the lower set feet
on the base of the body between rounds 14 & 15
below the front legs.

4. Sew the tail at the base of the back between rounds


13 & 14. Position it in a way your axolotl can stand/lean
on its own

5. And you're done! Add a keychain to bring it


wherever you go.

Tip: Reinforce the pieces (e.g.


gills, limbs) by sewing with a
similar shade sewing thread to
secure them in place and make
them stick to the body
