1 What this Module is About
1.1 Introduction from the Module Leader
This level 7 project management module is aimed at students, who are studying on either
the MSc for Building Services Engineering - BSE or the MSc in Facilities Management – FM.
Much of the study undertaken at level 7 is at, or informed by, the forefront of an academic
or professional discipline. Successful students show originality in the application of project
management knowledge, and they understand how the boundaries of knowledge are
advanced through research. They can deal with complex issues both systematically and
creatively, and they show originality in their work, when tackling and solving problems. They
have the qualities needed for employment in circumstances requiring sound judgement,
personal responsibility, and initiative in complex and unpredictable professional
environments.
1.2 Module Aims
The aim of this module is to develop the students’ understanding of the key concepts
associated with Project Management, which is primarily about the planning, organisation
and control of resources in order to manage the outcomes of a project to meet stakeholder
expectations. The professional project manager is typically involved with managing the time,
cost, quality and resource components, which might be for either commercial or not for
profit organisations
1.3 Module Learning Outcomes
LO1 Critically evaluate the tools and techniques available to a Project Manager to deliver
a project that meets with stakeholder expectations
LO2 Evaluate project controls used for monitoring and controlling projects across
organisational projects
LO3 Critically analyse issues raised in the business case, these maybe cost options, risk
and people management
2021/22 Module Handbook 1
1.4 Module Learning Activities
The module will be delivered through a series of sessions, online, that require the active
participation of students in debating the different issues. Such sessions will be recorded and
made available for students review.
Contact Hours
There are three scheduled hours every week for this module, one “recorded” and two hours
“Live”. The recorded hour allows you, at the time of your convenience, to review material
and resources relevant to the different sessions.
You may also arrange to meet your tutor, online, if you need further support. This can be
arranged by emailing the tutor to arrange a meeting at a mutually convenient time.
The module delivery and material are available on MyBeckett and MS Teams.
1.5 Communication
The primary mode of contact with students, will be via the student E mail account and
notifications sent to the student via the MyBeckett VLE
You must notify your Course Administrator, if you are absent for more than one day (for
example for an interview, emergency unforeseen circumstances, or for compassionate
leave). If you are going to apply for mitigation you will need to provide written evidence of
the reason for your absence (see section 3 of your Course Handbook).

Student Instructions for Submission of Coursework
This module requires you to submit your work online.
You MUST submit your work through MyBeckett using the link set up by the tutor, receipt of
your work will be recorded.
Your "Turnitin assignments" in MyBeckett can be set up so that you can check your
assignment yourself as you submit it. This checking is done by creating an "Originality
Report". If this report shows that there are some problems with your work, such as un-cited
quotations, you should be able to make corrections and re-submit the work again before the
due date. More information about Turnitin is available online here:
http://libguides.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/mybeckett/turnitin
Feedback within 4 weeks (University closures, such as Christmas, do not count as a working
week).
Please note: Tutors will follow up any suspected unfair practice found after the submission
date as per University policy. Late penalties will apply as per University Regulations.
Particular Instructions for Students
Please read carefully the assessment and marking grid uploaded onto mybeckett.

3.2 Feedback on Your Assessments
Feedback forms a large part of your learning experience and is vital to your personal and
professional development. We have worked with our Student Union to produce the
following guidance, which explains the benefits of feedback, the forms it may take and how
to use it.
https://www.leedsbeckettsu.co.uk/studentvoice/coursereps/toolbox/feedbackpack
Summative feedback on the work submitted will be provided online through mybeckett and
appended to the submitted work. In addition, 121 discussions are available for candidates
who require a more detailed understanding of how to improve on their coursework
4 Understanding Your Assessment Responsibilities
Extenuating Circumstances and Mitigation
If you are experiencing problems which are adversely affecting your ability to study (called
'extenuating circumstances'), then you can apply for mitigation. You can find full details of
how to apply for mitigation at: www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/studenthub/mitigation.htm.
The University operates a fit to sit/fit to submit approach to extenuating circumstances
which means students who take their assessment are declaring themselves fit to do so.
More information is available at the above link and here:
http://www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/studenthub/examinations/
Late Submission
Without any form of extenuating circumstances, standard penalties apply for late
submission of assessed work. Full details of the penalties for late submission of course work
are available at www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/public-information/academic-regulations.
Academic Misconduct
Academic misconduct occurs when you yourself have not done the work that you submit. It
may include cheating, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion and other forms of unfair
2022 7
practice. What is and what is not permitted is clearly explained in The Little Book of
Academic Integrity which is available to view at:
www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/studenthub/academic-integrity.
There are a range of resources available to help you understand what is and what is not
permitted and how to use other people’s ideas in your assessed work. These include the
Skills for Learning website which can be found at http://skillsforlearning.leedsbeckett.ac.uk
The serious consequences of plagiarism and other types of unfair practice are detailed in the
Academic Regulations at www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/public-information/academic-regulations.
5 Your Feedback on the Module
A mid-module review will be conducted by week 6. This is an opportunity to resolve
modular issues promptly early on in the module. In addition, you will have the opportunity
to feed-back formally at the end of your module. These comments will be reviewed by your
course team and some may be considered at your annual course enhancement meeting.
Your Course Representative will attend this and take your views to this meeting for
discussion.
