3.0 SYNOPSIS & THEORY

Part A: 7 QC Tools.

The 7 QC Tools are simple statistical tools used for problem solving. These tools were either developed in
Japan or introduced to Japan by the Quality Gurus such as Deming and Juran. In terms of importance,
these are the most useful. Kaoru Ishikawa has stated that these 7 tools can be used to solve 95 percent of
all problems. These tools have been the foundation of Japan's astomishing industrial resurgence after the
second world war.

The following are the 7 QC Tools :

1. Pareto Diagram
Shows on a bar graph which factors are more significant.

2. Cause & Effect Diagram (also called Ishikawa or fishbone chart)

Identifies many possible causes for an effect or problem and sorts ideas into useful
categories.

excel/

3. Histogram
The most commonly used graph for showing frequency distributions, or how often each
different value in a set of data occurs.
https://www.excel-easy.com/examples/histogram.html

4. Control Charts
Graphs used to study how a process changes over time.
https://www.extendoffice.com/documents/excel/2429-excel-control-chart.html

5. Scatter Diagrams
Graphs pairs of numerical data, one variable on each axis, to look for a relationship.
https://www.excel-easy.com/examples/scatter-plot.html

6. Flowcharts
Flowcharts are one of the best process improvement tools you can use to analyze a series
of events. They map out these events to illustrate a complex process in order to find any
commonalities among the events. They’re also one of the most common methods of
creating a workflow diagram.

7. Check Sheets
A structured, prepared form for collecting and analyzing data; a generic tool that can be
adapted for a wide variety of purposes.

Part B: 5S

5S is the name of a workplace organization method that uses a list of

five Japanese words: seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, and shitsuke. Translated into English,
they all start with the letter "S". The list describes how to organize a work space for
efficiency and effectiveness by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining the area
and items, and sustaining the new order. The decision-making process usually comes from

a dialogue about standardization, which builds understanding among employees of how
they should do the work.

There are five primary 5S phases: sorting, straightening, systematic cleaning,

standardizing, and sustaining.

1. Sorting:
Eliminate all unnecessary tools, parts, and instructions. Go through all tools, materials, and
so forth in the plant and work area. Keep only essential items and eliminate what is not
required, prioritizing things per requirements and keeping them in easily-accessible places.
Everything else is stored or discarded.
2. Stabilizing or Straightening Out
There should be a place for everything and everything should be in its place. The place for
each item should be clearly indicated.
3. Sweeping or Shining
Clean the workspace and all equipment, and keep it clean, tidy and organized. At the end
of each shift, clean the work area and be sure everything is restored to its place. This
makes it easy to know what goes where and ensures that everything is where it belongs.
4. Standardizing
Work practices should be consistent and standardized. All work stations for a particular
job should be identical. All employees doing the same job should be able to work in any
station with the same tools that are in the same location in every station. Everyone should
know exactly what his or her responsibilities are for adhering to the first 3 S's.
5. Sustaining the Practice
Maintain and review standards. Once the previous 4 S's have been established, they
become the new way to operate. Maintain focus on this new way and do not allow a
gradual decline back to the old ways. While thinking about the new way, also be thinking
about yet better ways. When an issue arises such as a suggested improvement, a new way
of working, a new tool or a new output requirement, review the first 4 S's and make
changes as appropriate. It should be made as a habit and be continually improved.

Part A: 7QC Tools

1 : 7QC Tools – Cause and Effect Diagram

Fight MH 401 delay. Use Cause and Effect diagram to write down all the problem that will
facing by Aircraft Company for them to take further action and minimize or eliminate any
issue. Discuss what your finding from the diagram.

 The diagram shows us the specific cause happen that leading to the cause of the
problem.

 Thus, helping the Aircraft Company in overcoming the problems from which part
that the problems might be occur.
 From the diagram, it will also help the company to prepare in case of flight delays.
 For the others cause might be happen because of something unpredictable such as
bad weather.
2 : 7QC Tools – Control Chart

From below issue, Make the Control Chart. Discuss what your finding from the chart.

Issue:
The operator are inspecting 25 successive wafers, each containing 100 chips. Here the
wafer is the inspection unit. The observed number of defects are

3 : 7QC Tools – Pareto Diagram
 The control chart is a graph that has centerline which represent average, upper and
lower line which both represents the limit of the process.
 The plotting between the number of wafers and the number of defect is within the
limit line which mean it is a normal problem that occurred
 But if the plotting go beyond the limit line, which upper value is 53.6465117
and lower value is -43.6034883
, its mean that the process is out of control

From below issue, Make the Pareto diagram. Discuss what your finding from the chart.

 Pareto chart helps you identify the most frequent defects of the problems.
 In the diagram, it shows that solving time and information gathering problems is
the most frequent problems that occurs in the hospital’s complaints
 Compare to solving time problems, the other problem such as personnel skill and
forms missing have less frequent occurred problems.

Draw the scatter diagram for the given pair of variables and understand and explain the type of
correlation between them.
