Project And Scopes

In our technological based life, battery has been a very useful tool. Our high-tech
devices mostly run on lithium-ion batteries, which provide more energy for their
size and can be recharged repeatedly. However, traditional lithium-ion batteries
have several drawbacks, such as being expensive, toxic, non-recycle and non-
environmental. So, we want to work on a project to introduce a new material for
the future generation of batteries. We use conductive polymers for this. After doing
this project, the following outcomes can be occurred:
 A new era of battery can be affected technological industry.
 Cheaper, safer, and better batteries can be expected than lithium-ion
batteries enhancing service life and reducing balance of plant costs.
 As we use plastic-like organic compounds which are easily available, we can
expect renewable source of batteries that can be a great revolution in
industry.
 As we use polymers instead of lithium ion, which is toxic, we can expect
that the batteries are environmentally favorable.

Brief

Batteries are crucial in the global economy transition with their ability to
maintain a balance between supply and demand with the power system. They
are one of these platform technologies that can be used to improve the state of
the world and combat climate change.
It's crucial to be able to store renewable energy for later use because many
renewable energy sources only provide sporadic power. Until now, lithium-ion
batteries have largely been used for energy storage and transportation.
However, these come with some significant downsides, most notably their
expense and volatile nature. To solve these problems and even the outperform
the performance of lithium-ion batteries, we are looking to polymers as new
materials.

1
Our conductive polymer-based technology makes use of a conventional, two
electrode electrochemical cell that also includes a liquid electrolyte that is non-
flammable, a carbon-graphene hybrid, and conductive polymers. As the cell is
charged and discharged, positive ions (cations) and negative ions (anions) move
back and forth between the electrodes. Through a Faradaic procedure known as
oxidation, the ions are stored in the electrode bulk during charging. Through a
Faradaic procedure known as reduction, the ions are discharged from the
electrodes during discharging.
Moreover, recycling battery components is extremely important, both from a
material standpoint and an environmental one. As we use plastic-like polymers
as raw materials which are easily recyclable, we can expect our project as
environmental one.
Throughout this project, we will introduce a new material to battery instead of
traditional one which would be a great achievement for our technology-based
life and obviously for us. And also, we will avoid metal as components of
batteries, as much we can. Because their toxicity level is high.

Roles of Material Scientists

The main research objectives are the exploration and development of high-
performance rechargeable batteries, where polymeric materials are essential
components of these devices. Material scientists must be needed as we want to
introduce a new material that is the work area of them. Again, we want to
design a new model of battery. Furthermore, we make batteries of low cost than
lithium-ion batteries. So, we need material scientists who can analyze and select
the perfect materials for this. As a result, material scientists provide technical
guidance to our project.

Automobile industries like WALTON motors, PRAGOTI, PHP

automobiles(Proton cars) , etc. are the main investors in our project and also we
signed a contract with SONALI BANK to fill up the expenditure.

p.s. The amount of investment seems a bit low considering that we would
eventually work with a large number of factories. But actually, it is a slight
overestimation of what we would actually need. That is because, according to our
financial planning, the companies would also invest a fair amount in our project
that we would need for assembly.

(All the values are calculated considering the process cost, manufacturing cost,
rejection cost, labor cost, depreciation cost, raw materials cost, etc. A bigger
number of amounts signifies a better product, & quality and quantity are also
included.)

Risks and Risk Management

The most probable risks of the project are as follows:

Number Risks Causes Chances (Out of
10)
1 Health hazards due to This can happen for a 3
working with some few very specific
certain metals and materials if not
polymer chemicals worked with under an
expert supervision
2 Environmental This might happen 2
Degradation due to the bad waste
management of a few
specific type of
material
3 Training of factory As the factory 7
workers within workers need to
deadline accustom to the new
technology, it might
prove to be rather
hard to train them
within the deadline
because of their lack
of literary training.
4 Market Monopoly The more 3
advancement we aim
for, the more
competitive the larger
companies would get.
This might affect the
net profit of the
medium to smaller
companies
5 Quality Deterioration As the technology is 5
new and
sophisticated, it will
be tough to maintain
quality of the product
6 Average worker may As the factory owners 8
not be rewarded aim for maximum
accordingly profit, they just might
cut off salaries to
gain that extra profit.

15
This may turn
opposite to what we
envisioned with this
project.

Risk Management:
In this research, we propose a 12-step approach for the risk management, and we
believe that these considerations will help to significantly reduce the hazardous
impacts of materials in workplaces the environment and also benefit the factory
workers.

Step 1:
An adequate assessment requires a fundamental understanding of the work. As a
result, employees with comprehensive expertise of the field should constantly be
involved.
Manager-employee consultation is beneficial to the evaluation because it provides
information about the substances used, how the work is done, exposure to
harmful organic chemicals, and dedication to quality control. When working in a
small office, project managers may be able to complete the assessments solo, but
in a larger office, it may be essential to form a team. The evaluation team should
be able to decipher the information included in the protocols and labels, evaluate
the working conditions, and predict any problems. They should also communicate
effectively with employees and potential stakeholders in order to reach
meaningful conclusions about exposures and risks.

Step 2:
Divide the job into sections, subsections, and tasks or process-units according to
the Work Breakdown Structure to be able to do a full risk assessment (WBS).

Step 3:
Identify all chemicals that are utilized or will be employed in each work unit and
process. A polymer can be made in the workplace as a powder, liquid, gel, vapor,
dust, mist, or fume.

Step 4:
Determine the polymer's properties. Polymers come in a variety of shapes and

16
sizes, ranging from relatively safe designed insoluble polymers in a matrix to
more hazardous free polymers.

Step 5:
The polymers should be described in detail by the provider. Material Safety Data
Sheets (MSDS) are available for most organic polymers and conductive
polymers, so adequate information must be obtained from other sources such as
textbooks, provided standards, technical reference sources, scientific papers,
reports, trade journals, electronic online databases, or experience with similar
substances or processes.

Step 6:
What are the methods for releasing dangerous chemicals into the workplace? Is it
possible for people to be exposed to dangerous chemicals through inhalation, skin
contact, ingestion, or eye contact, or is it possible for them to be accidentally
injected into the body? Each of the work units will be examined during a 'walk
through' inspection. It's critical to speak with staff at each location to guarantee
that everyone who might be exposed to chemicals is protected. A review of the
appropriate work process, plan, or design is required whenever a new assignment,
process, or work unit is being planned but not yet in operation.

• Is there harmful substance exposure?

• To what extent and for how long are personnel exposed?
• Is the exposure intermittent or continuous?
• Do you become exposed on a regular basis?
• What kinds of controls could be implemented or proposed?
• Are the current controls adequate?
• Are there any dangers in storing and transporting conductive polymers?

Step 7:
Serious health impacts on workers, such as inhalation of harmful and toxic
chemicals or working with very poisonous organic compound, constitute a
considerable risk (e.g., nano based anticancer drugs). Take into account the
hazard's type and intensity, as well as the degree of exposure of those involved in
the procedure. Four decisions could be made to summarize the evaluation
process:
17
Decision 1: At this time, there are no severe dangers, and they are unlikely to
increase in the future.

Executions: Continue to step 9 and complete the present assessment, but revisit it
if the situation changes.

Decision 2: Although there are major dangers, they have been well managed.

Executions: Maintain control processes to reduce the risk of increased exposure.

If a high-risk incident happens despite earlier precautions, establish additional
control mechanisms (see Step 8). If the circumstance changes, go through the
procedures again.
Decision 3: There are considerable hazards that are not being adequately
managed.

Execution: Immediately determine and take actions to prevent or control

exposure. Investigate and put in place a probable production halt. Begin by
determining whether extra controls are required. If the enhanced control
techniques are utilized, reevaluate the exposures. Make employee-training
programs a priority.

Decision 4: The dangers involved are unknown - there is insufficient knowledge

or doubt about the degree of exposure.

Executions: Gather more information or conduct a more thorough investigation.

If necessary, get expert counsel and make a decision using appropriate criteria.

Step 8:
If the assessment reveals severe health hazards, in addition to the steps outlined
in step 7, the following actions should be taken if necessary:

• Additional employee training

• Tighter monitoring techniques
• System of health surveillance
• First-aid and emergency-response services
Step 9:

18
The record should be brief and include a description of the work unit, the identity
of the assessor or members of the assessment team, the date and time, and a list of
hazardous chemicals used or created in the project unit. It should also include a
summary of the process, which should include a description of normal operations
in the project unit, as well as any changes observed or anticipated that could
affect the accuracy of the assessment; risk identification, including possible
routes of exposure; procedure for assessing exposure; the degree of exposure, and
existing control procedures; and risk identification, including possible routes of
exposure. The above-mentioned record should be saved in a permanent format,
either on paper or electronically.

Step 10:
Review and regulation of the assessment is required if:
• Significant changes in project products, work, material, process, or control
processes necessitate a review and regulation of the assessment.
• Intoxication caused by chemicals has been reported.
• There are reports of insufficient control mechanisms.

It becomes appropriate to use a new or improved control method in certain

circumstances.

Step 11:
As per our policy, every factory worker gets a percentage of the net profit made
by using our technology. And it needs to be monitored that the factory owners do
not end up consuming those resources.

Step 12:
The after-market scenario needs to be taken very seriously. Because at the end, be
it producing quality products or helping the average factory workers, it all comes
down to making profit off the products. Thus, we need to excel our marketing and
financing strategies.

These processes allow for the systematic detection of substantial risks and the
provision of appropriate decisions.

Conclusion:
19
To summarize the whole project, we can state that a whole new era of energy
supply will be introduced in the world if we can initiate this conductive polymer
battery project. Polymer based battery industry right now might sound like a
research based utopia or a simply an imagination of our mind, but if we can view
through the eyes of an inventor as well as entrepreneur we should not have any
doubt in our mind about the wonders it will bring about in our life.
