Cumulative Flow Diagram

This document provides instructions for creating a cumulative flow diagram (CFD). It explains that at the end of each day, three colored dots are plotted on the chart representing the number of work items in different stages of completion. Green dots indicate items completed, blue includes completed plus those in progress, and red includes all items. By connecting the dots, the chart visually depicts the flow of work over time.

Chart instructions

At the end of each day, 3 coloured dots are added at the intersection between the current day (X-axis)
and the number of work items (Y-axis).

The 3 coloured dots on the Y-axis are determined by counting the work items in the 3 columns on the
board:

Number of work items in column “DONE”  - Green dot
Number of work items in “DONE” + column “A+B”  - Blue dot
Number of work items in “DONE” + “A+B” + column “Options”  - Red dot

The points are then connected, which results in a picture that looks something like this….

On Day 10 of this example, there were:

9 items in column “DONE”,
4 items in column “A+B”, and
7 items in column “Options”

Please note, this is an example chart. Your numbers will be
different to the ones shown here.
