Surface Tolerant Epoxy Aluminium
PRODUCT A two component, high build, self-priming surface tolerant epoxy coating pigmented with
aluminium flakes.
DESCRIPTION
DESIGN A rapid curing, tough anti-corrosive maintenance primer for steel where blasting is impractical
and only power or hand tool surface preparation is possible.
FEATURES Excellent wetting and adhesion to a variety of substrates and aged coatings.
Outstanding anti-corrosive performance on both blasted and non-blasted steel.
Withstands continuous dry heat up to 150ºC and can be used for corrosion protection under
thermal insulation of carbon steel and stainless steel.
Ideal for use with wet abrasive blasting or ultra high pressure water blasting.

SURFACE The service life span and the service performance of EPIMASTIC 5100 are directly related to
the degree of surface preparation.
PREPARATION
STEEL
• Remove all wax, oil and grease by solvent cleaning in accordance with the guidelines given
by SSPC-SP1.
• Soluble salts, dirt and dust must be removed prior to coating. A freshwater wash must
follow to remove all soluble salts.
• Remove scales by chipping, needle gun or spot blasting.
• All loose or flaking coatings should be removed back to a firm edge.
• Mechanically clean the surface using hand or power tools to a minimum standard of St 2
(ISO 8501-1:1988) or SSPC-SP2 taking care to avoid polishing the surface.
• Where necessaries remove weld spatter and round off all rough weld seams and sharp
edges to smooth surface.
To avoid condensation of moisture onto substrate prior to coating application, relative humidity
should not exceed 85% and substrate temperature should be more than 3°C above Dew Point.

NOTES • The coating specifications given above are typical. For specific recommendations to suit
individual applications please refer to your Berger Paints representative.
• Common to all epoxies this product will experience yellowing and chalking on prolonged
exposure to sunlight. However, this phenomenon is not detrimental to coating performance.
• Exposure to very low temperatures, high humidity or water ponding during and / or
immediately after application may result in incomplete cure and / or discolouration that may
compromise subsequent intercoat adhesion.
• Do not apply onto freshly applied alkyd or oleoresin types paint systems.
SAFETY Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wear suitable protective clothing such as overalls, goggles,
dust mask and gloves. Use barrier cream.
