About the Role - Staff Software Engineer - Platform (Frontend)

At Scaler, Staff Software Engineers use their expertise to amplify the overall impact and output of
the Product Development team. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the technical design
and drive your team’s goals to their implementation, through the development of high-quality
code, and of course, you will be hands-on and contribute technically as well. You will also
contribute to creating a culture of collaboration and knowledge as a mentor to other engineers in
the team.

You will be contributing to the team that works on building Automatic Evaluation Judges for
Courses like
● Backend Development (Python, Go, Java, Node.js),
● Frontend Development (Javascript, React, Redux),
● High-Level Design(Load Balancers, Distributed Databases, Stress/Load Testing, etc),
● Low-Level Design (Object-oriented programming and design patterns),
● Data Science & Machine Learning (Jupyter Workspaces and Workers to run models),
● Data Engineering (Workspaces to set up data pipelines, data scraping, run workers for
data pre-processing).
One of the critical components of Scaler is Marketing & Growth which is necessary to drive traffic
from all the offerings of Scaler and re-engage this traffic in order to convert them into Eligible
Leads that can be consumed by the Sales team to convert visitors into revenue-generating
customers. You will also be contributing to the team that handles all the Tech for Growth products
of Scaler. Some examples of Growth products are Free resources offered by Scaler
(Masterclasses, Free Live Classes, etc), Free Scaler Experience, Product Landing Pages, SEO &
Performance Marketing pages, and User Analytics across the product offering of Scaler. Page
Performance optimizations, Core Web Vitals, SEO optimizations, etc along with Product
Engineering form a major part of this team.

What you will do as a Staff Software Engineer at Scaler

1. Learn and grow constantly to feed your passion for self-improvement and make those

2. Design and build highly available, resilient, and scalable platform primitives and APIs.
3. Work through technical problems with your team and advocate for engineering-specific
roadmap items.
4. Collaborate with Design, Product Management & other Engineering teams to build quality
product offerings for our users.

Experience and Skills that we are looking for in this role

1. A proven track record of success in leading software development teams - Strong
technical mentorship is a must.
2. Experience building large-scale, high-throughput distributed systems and scaling web
services that use or analyze large amounts of data.
3. High level of fluency and experience in technologies like
a. HTML5, CSS3(BEM preferred), CSS Preprocessors (Sass/Less/PostCSS)
b. Javascript ES6 & Typescript
c. Frameworks (React with Redux/Mobx)
d. Server-side Rendering (using Next.js)
e. Static Stire Generators (Next.js/GatsbyJS)
f. Build tools (Webpack/Esbuild)
g. Package Managers (npm, yarn)
h. Testing tools (Jest/Cypress/Enzyme)
i. Linters (ESLint)
j. Performance and Optimizations (AMP, Web Vitals & SEO Optimizations,
Lighthouse, Dev Tools, PRPL/RAIL models, and Performance Metrics)
4. Experience with web development concepts like Web Security Fundamentals, CORS,
Content Security Policies, Virtual DOM, Browser Storage, Web Sockets, Service Workers.
5. Backend knowledge of working with and building APIs is a must. You should be able to
work with Backend Teams to align on the API contracts and integrate them.
6. A passion for efficiency, collaboration, and establishing relationships with Design,
Product Management, Product Marketing, and Data teams.
7. Curiosity and passion to constantly learn new things. Scaler is growing fast and we are
building new products and scaling existing ones, and we need the people who work here
to be able to adapt and learn at the same pace.
8. Project Management experience is a must since you would have to break down projects
and assign resources to deliver them on aligned timelines.
