2.0 INTRODUCTION
Technology today ensures a more efficient and productive approach to carrying out particular
activities in addition to being a means of entertainment. One of the most significant components of
everyone's life is now technology. Technologies are used in a wide range of sectors, including education,
transportation, and medicine. Students are among those who are touched by technology, whether they are
in college, high school, or kindergarten.
Our research indicates that both office workers and students frequently spend time purchasing
equipment for workouts that will aid them during their workout. They want it to be stylish, functional, and
interoperable with other devices, including smart watches, fitness tracking apps, and even skipping ropes
with leaping counters. Items are now freely accessible at low prices thanks to the development of online
shopping platforms like Shopee and Lazada, but it won't be too difficult for them to transport the things to
their desired location. Additionally, having to bring a lot of items during a workout may be difficult for
individuals to do. Comfortable sports shoes that may be worn everywhere are a requirement for a mobile
healthy lifestyle.
Introducing shoes with built-in route trackers and step counters! Imagine a world where your
footwear not only looks stylish but also helps you track your daily activities and explore new routes.
These innovative shoes are designed to enhance your fitness journey and provide you with valuable data
about your daily steps and routes.
Finally, if all of the aforementioned factors are taken into consideration, a design that works for
everyone may be attained. In this post, we'll concentrate on the most current developments with the shoes,
like the addition of led displays that can show how many steps have been taken as well as bluetooth
connections. Previous research showed that despite considerable local demand, there was little
manufacturing of sport shoes with poor innovation and insufficient safety gear. We will cultivate interest
in our concepts among office employees, athletes, children, and the elderly.
Jogging two to three times a week is one of the best things people can do to keep a healthy
lifestyle; it can help people stay healthy by preserving the health of their heart and blood pressure. To
ensure they can jog or run for a long time, they must dress well and comfortably. There are several
common problems that people may experience with normal sports shoes. One of the problems that people
usually have to face is that they may suffer from durability problems. The materials used in the
construction of the shoes, such as the upper fabric, outsole, or stitching, may wear out quickly, leading to
premature damage or loss of functionality. In addition, we can tell from our data that most people always
4
need to bring their smartphones with them. Because of all the distractions they must deal with, such as
notifications from their jobs or possibly family calls, it is difficult for these people to concentrate on their
jog. Other than that, the most frequent difficulties these people face include having to bring their
smartphones with them in order to track their runs, which makes them uncomfortable because some
smartphones are hefty. However, there are currently no better sports shoes with such extra functions. As a
result, we strive to deliver sport shoes that are built in collaboration with features that
may satisfy the demands of consumers. Because we want to appeal to students, athletes, and other people,
we aim to include the above-mentioned special features specifically for them.
2.2 Methodology
We use online surveys like Google forms because it is much easier to collect data in person.
Sections of the questionnaire were given online through services like Telegram and WhatsApp.
Questionnaires were presented to office workers, school athletes and students. 44 respondents—all office
workers, school athletes, and students—were handed questionnaires. This survey was distributed on June
3, 2021, and it was collected on June 10, 2021. Data was gathered and assessed using pie charts that were
taken directly from the Google form before a report was produced. The major reason for generating this
questionnaire was to solicit opinions and suggestions from the general public. The group members
conducted all the research and academic work. The study is concentrated on the substance, the layout, and
any other specific components that will be included in the final product. The purpose of
Using research, we can set our product apart from the competition. We look into potential new
developments to enhance our product.
2.3 Limitations
Regarding the data collection approach, it was difficult to find athletes who were willing to
participate in the survey sessions because of numerous constraints, such as time constraints. There were
limitations and problems despite the thorough planning that went into this data collection process. There
were just 44 participants in the poll, therefore it was conducted on a modest scale. The results given may
not be generalizable due to the small size of the group. To do this, a larger sample size would be required.
Only one athlete responded to the poll, despite the fact that we need more responses from those
who participate in sports because our goods need movement to function. In order to ensure that more
athletes will fill up our form, we have to distribute our link to certain individuals which are athletes who
play different sports

Route tracker shoe technology is designed to track and analyse various aspects of an individual's
running or walking activities. It typically includes a combination of sensors, data processing capabilities,
and wireless connectivity. Here are some key components or technology and features commonly found in
kickspire sport shoe:
● GPS (Global Positioning System): GPS is a satellite-based navigation system that allows
for precise tracking of the location and movement of the shoe. It allows users to measure
distance, speed, and map routes. To provide accurate outdoor tracking, GPS technology is
used in route tracker shoes.
● An accelerometer: A type of sensor that measures acceleration forces. Accelerometers are
used to detect foot strikes, gait patterns, and to provide information about the intensity
and frequency of steps.
● A gyroscope: A sensor that detects orientation and angular velocity. It can provide
additional information about the movements and rotation of the shoe. Gyroscopes are
used in conjunction with accelerometers to improve tracking accuracy and provide more
detailed motion analysis.
● Data Processing and Storage: These components analyse sensor readings, calculate
metrics like distance, speed, and calories burned, and can even give the wearer real-time
feedback.
● Wireless Connectivity: Wireless connectivity options such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. This
enables the shoe to exchange information with a companion mobile app or online
platform. Users can view and analyse their activity data, set goals, and communicate their
progress to others.
● Power Source:This product has a built-in battery or power source to power the sensors
and processing components. The battery life varies depending on usage and has
rechargeable batteries.
● Companion Mobile App: Where users can access their data, view detailed activity
summaries, set goals, and track their progress over time. These apps may also include
features like personalised training plans or social sharing options.
6
Material and aesthetic value are two distinct concepts that are frequently considered in a variety
of contexts, including art, design, and even everyday objects. The inherent characteristics and features of a
physical object or substance which lead to its usefulness, durability, and quality are referred to as its
material value. Besides, Aesthetic value refers to an object's visual appeal, beauty, and artistic qualities. It
emphasises the sensory experience, emotional response, and artistic appreciation elicited by the
appearance, design, or arrangement of the object. Aesthetic value is typically assessed using subjective
judgements and personal preferences, but it is also influenced by cultural, historical, and social factors.
Therefore, here's a closer look at these factors:
Materials:
● Comfort: The synthetic materials used in the upper part of the shoe should provide an adequate
level of comfort while also allowing for proper ventilation to keep the foot cool and moisture
buildup to be reduced. For this purpose, breathable mesh fabrics or lightweight synthetic
materials are used.
● Durability: To increase the longevity of the shoe, durable materials such as synthetic overlays,
reinforced stitching, and rubber outsoles are used.
● Flexibility: Natural foot movement requires flexibility. The materials used should be flexible
enough, especially in the forefoot area.
● Support and Stability: The materials used in the midsole and upper provide the foot with
adequate support and stability. Cushioning materials in the midsole, such as EVA foam, can
absorb shock, while synthetic overlays may provide stability and avoid excessive foot movement.
Aesthetic value:
● Design: We prioritise the creation of visually appealing shoes that correspond to current trends
and consumer preferences.
● Colour and patterns: The smart shoe may be available in a variety of colours and patterns to
accommodate different personal styles and preferences. However, to make the shoes more
visually appealing, bright and vibrant colours are being used.
● Branding: The brand logo or name is displayed on our smart shoe. These branding elements can
help establish brand recognition and contribute to the overall aesthetic.
7
● Customization: customization options allowing users to customise the look of their shoes.
Interchangeable panels, customizable colour combinations, and even personalised graphics are
examples of this.
The materials used in route tracker shoes, as well as their aesthetic value, should be carefully
balanced to ensure that the shoes are not only visually appealing, but also functional, comfortable, and
long-lasting. Finally, the design choices should cater to the preferences of the target audience while also
meeting the technical requirements of the route tracking technology integrated into the shoe.

Research and Development (R&D) refers to organised efforts that are directed towards
discovering new knowledge, product, or process. Usually, innovation is involved in R&D for the new
product. New products are often characterised by a high rate of failure. This may be due to limited
historical or preliminary data. Therefore, research and development is a critical step in the new product
development process. It involves idea generation and idea screening.
10
1. R&D Process
Idea Generation
Idea generation is a systematic search for new product ideas obtained internally and
externally. A process in which critical thinking is used to produce large amounts of ideas for new
products. It is important that all ideas be gathered. In order to develop a new product successfully,
a company must understand its consumers, markets, and competitors to develop products that
deliver superior values to consumers.
The systematic source for our product idea includes internal idea sources and external
ideas sources. In the internal sources, we include the research and development by sharing ideas
within team members and research on the product-related. Some of the external sources include
customers, suppliers, and competitors.
Basically in our research and development, we use both internal and external ideas to
come out with a great and fresh idea of a new product. New products are important to both
customers and the markets. Meanwhile, for the companies, new products are the lifeblood for
them to sustain their company in the business platform.
There are two internal sources that we use to generate ideas, which are brainstorming and
forced analogy. Brainstorming is generating ideas based on the principle of suspending
judgements. We have brainstormed and come out with an idea of product innovation. The product
is smart sports shoes. Forced analogy is gaining new insights by forcing a relationship between
almost anything, in other words, developing new ideas by looking at product combinations.
The smart sport shoes are the combination of regular sport shoes and fitness tracker. In
today’s market we can find many forms of fitness tracker. There are smartwatch that have sensors
to monitor various aspects of your health and fitness, such as heart rate, steps taken, distance
travelled, calories burned, and many more. They can provide real-time feedback, track workouts,
and help you achieve your fitness goals. There are also various applications you can download on
your smartphone that do the same thing.
11
The external source used in developing the above ideas of new products is publications.
We gained ideas about the products by reading any kind of related literature about product
development. Other than that, customers are the most important sources to get new product
development ideas. The customer knows best what they need and what they are looking for. It is
the most important thing to deliver satisfaction by providing exactly what customers want.
Idea Screening
The idea of idea screening is to spot the good idea and drop the poor ones as soon as the
product is being evaluated according to certain criteria. The company must proceed only with
product ideas that will turn into profitable products that will be successful in the marketplace.
Based on the ideas generated from internal and external sources during idea generation,
we have decided on “Kickspire Smart Sport Shoes” which is a combination of a sports shoe and
fitness tracker. These shoes utilise various technologies, such as accelerometers or built-in GPS
systems, to track your movements and provide accurate measurements of steps taken and distance
travelled. These shoes will also have built-in SOS features. These features typically have a
dedicated button or gesture that triggers an emergency alert. They can send your location
to pre-selected contacts and initiate a call for help.
The idea to include these fitness features in a sports shoe is due to some factors in using
the existence fitness trackers such as smartwatches and fitness applications on smartphones.
While smartwatches and apps can be beneficial for tracking fitness and providing useful
information during jogging or other physical activities, there are a few potential disadvantages to
consider :
1. Comfort and Fit: Depending on the design and size of the smartwatch, it may not be
comfortable to wear during jogging. The weight and bulkiness of the watch can cause
discomfort, especially if it's not securely fastened to your wrist. It's important to find a
watch that fits well and doesn't interfere with your range of motion.
12
2. Distraction: Smartwatches and smartphones often have various features and notifications
that can be distracting while jogging. Constant notifications, messages, or alerts may
interrupt your focus and disrupt your rhythm. This can impact your overall running
experience and potentially compromise your safety.
3. Battery Life: Continuous use of GPS, heart rate monitoring, and other features on a
smartwatch and smartphone can drain its battery quickly. If you rely heavily on these
features, you may find that the battery life of the watch is insufficient for longer runs. It's
essential to manage your usage and ensure the watch has enough charge for your entire
workout.
4. Risk of Damage: Jogging can be a high-impact activity, and there is a risk of accidentally
damaging or scratching the devices during intense movements. While most smartwatches
and smartphones are designed to withstand some level of impact, it's still important to
exercise caution and protect those devices from potential damage.
Therefore, my team came up with an idea to develop a regular sport shoes with built-in
step counter and distance travelled tracker. From our observation, people tend to forget to wear
their smartwatches or turn on the fitness app. This cause the data to not be recorded. The idea to
make this built-in tracker in sport shoes might help because wearing sport shoes is a must during
jogging or any outdoor activities. The feature of auto-reset daily will also help in making sure the
data are not mixed up.
13
Market Survey
Figure 2 :Problems Encountered When Using The Existing Fitness Tracker Devices
From the survey, most people encounter a problem when using the existing fitness tracker
such as smartwatches and apps. Approximately 21 respondents agree that they find it hard to
achieve comfort in wearing smartwatches while running their laps. Meanwhile 8 respondents
agreed that they always forgot to run the apps on their smartphones causing the data to not be
recorded while another 8 respondents agreed that the batteries of their smartwatches and
smartphones always ran out causing sudden data loss. Meanwhile 3 other respondents stated that
they have skin irritation while wearing smartwatches and some also forgot to bring their fitness
tracker devices.
14
From the above chart, 13 respondents believed that weight of the product attribute to
main criteria of the product. From the survey, the weight of the shoes need to be very light and
suitable for running. Then, the features offered are also one of the important characteristics that
will make this new product different from the already existing sport shoes. Other than that, it is
also important to consider the type of materials. The respondents suggested using high quality
foam as the insole to give better comfort to people who are wearing them. Some of the
respondents agree that colour variation is also important due to every person having different
taste and preference.
15
The pie chart above shows that the price respondents are willing to spend for Kickspire
Smart Sport Shoes. About 36.7% of the respondents are willing to spend RM100 to RM200 for
the product. Meanwhile, the majority 44.9% of the respondents believed that the product price
range should be between RM201 to RM300. The minority of respondents (18.4%) believed that
this product is worth RM301 and above.
16
2. CTC
Consumer Trend Canvas (CTC) is the strategic tools used that can clearly show the consumers
need and alternative way for a company to develop and innovate their best products. The
consumer trend canvas can help in gathering and analysing the problem's basic needs, as well as
in transforming the innovation before it can be commercialised. This model could assist
developers or business planners to understand and analyse the customer trend for ensure their new
products could be launched to meet their consumers’ demand. According to our understanding
and research, there are two steps involved in using the Consumer Trend Canvas method. The first
step in CTC is to analyse the customer's needs, and the second step is to apply the findings. As a
result, businesses can gain valuable insights into consumer behaviour and market dynamics,
enabling them to make informed decisions and stay ahead of the competition.
17
In this section, it will be explained about the product features and design of KickSpire Sport
Shoes in detail. The table below included the design of KickSpire Sport Shoes with
explanation.
1. Steps Tracker
2. Route Tracker
3. Battery Life
4. Emergency SOS
Concept testing is different from test market where concept testing is the process of using
surveys and sometimes qualitative methods to evaluate consumer acceptance of the new product
idea prior to the introduction of the product to market. This testing focuses on the basic product
idea without the embellishments and aid from the advertisement.
As for our product, we are conducting a questionnaire to test the availability, acceptance,
marketability and the quality of the product itself. The question will be gathered and analysed
thoroughly. The questionnaires will help us to determine whether our new product has a place in a
market or not. The potential users of our product will get to know the functions and its uniqueness
from others based on the questionnaires. They will be able to know that the product comes with
some fitness features and SOS emergency which they can do in their everyday routine with ease.
For evaluating the concept testing, we will not compare the new concept ratings to the
ratings for existing products because it will result in an invalid comparison. In fact, we will
compare our product to norms from the same product category and the same country for new
innovation inventions.
20
4.3.4 Prototype
FIGURE 5
Figure 5 above shows the design prototype of KickSpire Sport Shoes in 3D form. Any decent running
shoe will have a premium cushioning system, regardless of the brand. Cushioning in a shoe refers to its
ability to absorb the force of an impact. When running, this demand develops when your foot makes
contact with the ground, specifically the first 50 milliseconds of the approximately 250 milliseconds of
the stride's support phase.
So, the function of a shoe's cushioning is to make the contact period as gradual as possible in order to
limit the unavoidable collision with the ground. At the back of our product, we put some features that we
create which are step trackers where a three-axis accelerometer continuously detects body movement. The
data is recorded when the tracker is worn and turned on, allowing the tracker to determine whether the
individual is walking forward, running rapidly, or even standing motionless. Other than that, we put a
route tracker where GPS systems receive satellite and microwave signals and utilise computations to
identify location as well as track speed and movement.
21
In order to do market testing, we have prepared a survey to study various common problems that sport
shoes users may experience and introduce our products, KickSpies Sport Shoes. This survey has been
given out to approximately 80 respondents from different age groups by using Google Form. Figure 6
shows the age group of our respondents. There are four age groups that we have listed, and this includes
people aged between 19 to 29 years old, 30 to 39 years old, 40 to 49 years old and people aged more than
50 years old. From the result we received, we can see that all of the respondents are aged between 19 to
29 years old. Besides that, we also classified our respondents into their gender. Figure 7 shows the
respondents’ gender. Roughly, 39 (79.6%) out of 49 of our respondents are female and the extra 10
(20.4%) people are from male respondents. In Figure 8 we included several occupations which are
student, athletes, employed and unemployed. We can see that 47 (95.9%) out of 49 respondents are
students, 1(2%) athlete and 1 (2%) employed.
FIGURE 6
FIGURE 7
22
FIGURE 8
We have listed several common problems that the shoes user may be countenance and asked our
respondents. Firstly, we asked our respondent if they enjoy outdoor activities or not. This is because we
need suitable and durable shoes to do outdoor activities. According to the pie chart below (FIGURE 9), 43
(89.6%) out of 49 respondents do enjoy outdoor activities while the remaining 5 (10.4%) respondents do
not enjoy outdoor activities and 1 respondent is not sure about the statement.
FIGURE 9
Besides that, we know that people nowaday are more concerned about their health. So we added a
question whether our respondents always take a walk or jog. This may help us to know and prepare to
give the best product for our users. In FIGURE 10 we can see 36 out of 49 of our respondents (73.5%)
always take a walk/jogging and 13 (26.5%) out of 49 respondents do not always take a walk or jog.
23
FIGURE 10
Next, in order to introduce KickSpire Sport Shoes, we have created a feature which is a step tracker where
it continuously senses the movements of the body on a 3 axis accelerometer. The data is recorded all the
time it is worn and powered up, which enables the tracker to trace if the individual is walking forward,
running fast, or even standing still. So, we asked our respondents if they always record their steps they
take in a day. Referring to the pie chart from FIGURE 11, 44.9% which is 22 respondents do record their
steps, while 16 (32.7%) out of 49 respondents sometimes record their step and lastly 22.4% which is 11
respondent do not record their step.
FIGURE 11
Our main target on creating KickSpire Sport Shoes is to make it easier for active people to maximise their
active lifestyle and maximise the benefits of technologies in one invention. Thus, in order to study the
market of KickSpire Sport Shoes, we asked our respondents to rate whether they think our product is
24
appealing or not. Data gathered for this question is shown in FIGURE 12. Out of 49 our respondents, only
69.4% of them give the highest rate, while 24.5% rate 4 and lastly 6.1% give the lowest rating.
25
5. CONCLUSION
Based on the findings and discussions, the problems that occur and are faced
among users is losing shoes, wet shoes and dirty quickly when it rains, heavy shoes make it
difficult for them to run
In conclusion, the revolution in need will never end, however it will have more
innovation and applied technology. Therefore, we produced these versatile Sports Shoes to help
many users to run their names comfortably without having to worry about many things and
minimise their problems.
Nevertheless, we believe this product has great potential to help someone's life
easier because it has many features to help them do their workouts. We also believe our products
are different from other products on the market and we also have the ability to compete with other
products that are already in the market because of technology provided by this product. Finally,
these KickSpire Sports Shoes will help many users make their lives smoother especially for
students and athletes.
