This assignment has TWO parts.

1. Complete an artwork design on DESMOS

(Instructions attached. This is an ongoing assignment)

2. Complete an Independent Finance Research Assignment

(Work will be provided on June 17th and is to be completed IN-CLASS)

The Culminating is worth 20%. (10% each part)

PART 1 (DUE June 22nd @ 11:59PM)

The Euler Bank of Math is looking for a new design for their latest credit cards. Your job is to
create a graphic design for them on DESMOS.

Your design must include the following:

● Include ALL the parent functions investigated in this course
○ Linear: recall the parent function is 𝑦 = 𝑥
2
○ Quadratic: recall the parent function is 𝑦 = 𝑥
OR Absolute value: recall the parent function is 𝑦 = |𝑥|
○ Radical: recall the parent function is 𝑦 = 𝑥
1
○ Rational: recall the parent function is 𝑦 = 𝑥
𝑥
○ Exponential: recall the parent function is 𝑦 = 𝑎𝑏
○ Sinusoidal: recall the parent function is 𝑦 = 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑥 or 𝑦 = 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑥
● Include the usage of restrictions somewhere (domain or range restrictions)
● State the domain and range for the portion of the functions you identified within your art.
You only have to provide the domain and range for ONE type of function each.
State the general value NOT including any imposed restrictions.
● For a LEVEL 4: Experiment with a function NOT introduced in any of your previous math
courses (Have fun with this one!) Include any new functions on your “Domain and
Range” Chart.

Step 1: Complete a ROUGH DRAFT of your sketch. This must be approved by Ms. Hu before
you can begin on DESMOS. You may edit your design as you work on DESMOS but the main
idea must be the same.

Step 2: Create your graphic design on DESMOS

Sign into your DESMOS account by using the LOGIN button on the top right side.

Make sure you LOG IN WITH GMAIL using your TDSB e-mail.
This will allow you to save your graph and continue working on it without having to restart.

Click the box with an arrow in it to access the share link to your DESMOS graph.
Share the LINK to your DESMOS art with me on BRIGHTSPACE ASSIGNMENTS.

Step 3: Write your domain and range values out on the provided chart.

You may use your notes, homework, and textbook as an aid. Though you may talk with
classmates, the work should be originally yours (not copied off of a classmate’s or another
person’s work).
How to Use Desmos to Create Art (REFRESHER):

You may follow along with my video (I made this for my grade 9s to create Linear Art). The
same tools used in the video can be applied to the functions here. You may ignore the last 2
minutes of the video.

How to state restrictions in Desmos:

- To show only the part of the line that corresponds to x coordinates between -1 and 2,
you must enter:

- To restrict
a vertical line,
you must enter:

__________________________________________________________________________________

- To create folders and organize your lines:

Notice that these instructions (including my video) are specifically for linear equations. Using
your knowledge of domain and range as well as the different functions used in the course, you
will have to restrict your functions in a similar way. My recommendation is to draw a sketch on
graphing paper, create points that you can transfer onto Desmos and start determining the
different variables of your transformed functions. For example, what is your “a” (the stretch
factor or your amplitude).
