3 Differentiate with respect to x the following function:
(i) 3x4 – 8ex – 6×5x – 10 logx + 26

(iii) (x2 +2x + 9)/ (x + 5)
(iv) xe .ex
(v) 8x5 – 5*6x – 2logx – 29 + 2x
(vi) (x – 6)/ ( x + 6)
4 Divide 200 into two parts so that their product is maximum.
5 Find the values of x for which the function f(x) = x 3 – 3x2 – 45x + 2 is
(i) Increasing
(ii) Decreasing.
6 Find the values of x for which the function f(x) = x2 – 6x +1 is
(iii) Increasing
(iv) Decreasing.
7 Find the values of x for which the function f(x) = 3x2 – 2x + 5 is
(v) Increasing
(vi) Decreasing.
8 Examine for maxima and minima the function f(x) = 2x3 – 6x2 – 90x + 10.
9 Examine for maxima and minima the function f(x) = 2x3 – 6x2 – 48x + 11.
10 The cost of producing x items is given by C = 2x2 + 4x + 25. Find the average cost, the marginal
cost and marginal average functions. What is the marginal cost when x = 5?

11 The total cost function is given by C = x3 – 24x2 + 189x + 10. Find x for which cost is minimum.

12 The total revenue function is given by R = 2x3 – 63x2 +648x. Find x for which revenue is
maximum.
13 The demand function is given by p = 40 + D – D2 + D3where p = price and D = Demand. Find
the total revenue, the average revenue and the marginal revenue when the demand is 5.

14 The total cost function is given by C = 3x3 – 36x2 – 108x + 100. Find x for which total cost is
decreasing.
