Most of the students today like to use computer units and other electronic
gadgets, for the production of lesson outputs and or actual products, for livelihood,
and social networking site activities without the know-how on how to evaluate the
testing process. The TLE CSS subject offers the students the most essential
learning competencies particularly in the topic, “Evaluate the Testing Process”.
Review
This activity guides you to recall the basic evaluation of the testing process
of electronic components used in circuits. The following are the images of basic
electronic components such as resistor and capacitor, and testers such as
Multmeter and Multifunction Tester for you to identify. Write down the name of the
components or testing devices on a separate sheet of paper.

1. 3.

2. 4.

Are you familiar with this quote?

“Testing the components is knowing its worth. And evaluating the
testing process is making sure of its results.” (GPL)

2
Identification. Directions. Identify the numbered test results based on the
following: capacitor, resistor, transistor, LED, dead battery. Write down the
name of the tested components or dead battery on an intermediate paper.

1. 2. 3.

4. 5.

part of the module.

To identify testing methods based on industry-standard, evaluate the

testing process and record system based on standard procedures, and
document test results or findings for subsequent testing, please read the article

Discussions
Evaluate the Testing Process
By George P. Lumayag

Component testing is a method where testing of each component in an

application is done separately. In testing the electronic components based on
industry standards, I think it's a burden on your part as a student during the CoVid
pandemic. It might be that you don't have the Multi-tester and Multi-function
tester. But since the competency is to "Evaluate the Testing Process, you need
to read this Self-Learning Module (SLM) wherein you are guided to identify
testing methods based on industry-standard, evaluate the testing process and
record system based on standard procedures, and document test results or
findings for subsequent testing. This time you have to perform these objectives
at home but I know the majority of students would not have the said testing
devices.

When using the Multimeter to test the continuity of the electronic

components is an example of a testing method. Likewise, when using the Multi-
function Tester to test the range and parameter description of the components

3
to detect the good or busted ones.

To evaluate the electronic components is a good move for the

technicians if the motherboard of the computer and electronic boards of the LAN,
video, and audio cards are non-functional. The main purpose of using these
testers is for hardware troubleshooting of busted electronic boards.

If you have found the busted components, it is advisable to remove them

from the electronic board before testing such components. You can use the
soldering iron, hot air equipment, and tweezer in removing said components.
These are the common testing processes of components to be evaluated by an
individual student.
Most of us are visual learners. Browsing this competency on
www.youtube.com is appreciated but it is not compulsory especially if you don't
have a desktop computer, or laptop, or cell phone and internet connection. The
suitable learning modality for you is the Self-Learning Module wherein you are
provided with sample pictures of testing devices such as Multi-tester and Multi-
function Tester that can be utilized by individual students. And the sample test
results from the previous module would serve as your guide in evaluating the
testing process. By charting the test results or findings would also serve as your
documentation. Please see the sample chart below.

Sample Documentation of Component Test Results

In identifying the testing methods of electronic components and devices,
you should evaluate the testing process when using the Multi-tester or Multi-
function Tester to test the continuity of the components or to test the range and
parameter description of the components to detect the good or busted ones. And
you should document the procedures in doing such testing methods for you to
master the competency. Write down your answers in an intermediate paper.
Option A. Using the Multi-function Tester, test available electronic
components at home and write down the testing method for you to document test
results. But if you don’t have the Multi-function Tester and you have a cell phone
with an internet connection, just follow the next option.
Option B. Browse the topic, “Test Components using the Multi-function
Tester” at www.youtube.com and evaluate the testing method. Write down the
testing method for you to document test results. But if you don’t have an internet
connection, just follow the next option.
Option C. Draw the Multi-function Tester and its testing results on an
intermediate paper using a pencil. (Please refer to What's New' and 'What is it'
activities)

Paragraph Writing. Directions: Using an intermediate paper, write down a

paragraph based on the given question stated below.
1. In your own words, how can you evaluate and document the testing process
during the testing of electronic components?
Your performance will be rated using the following rubric which is
adapted from an online source.
VGE GE SE LE N Score
(10) (9) (8) (7) (6)
1. The ideas in the paragraph/s
are well organized.
2. The message is expressed
logically and clearly.
3. There are sufficient
supporting ideas.
4. The choice of words is
appropriate.
5. Biases are avoided.
6. Sentences are free from
grammatical mistakes.
7. Ideas are written vividly and
meaningfully.
TOTAL:
Legend:
VGE-To a very extent (10)
GE-To great extent (9)
SE-To some extent (8)
LE-To less extent (7)
N-Not at all (6)

5
Now, which of the testing methods is more appropriate in testing the
electronic components? And how can you carefully evaluate and appropriately
develop the testing process and record system-based documents on standard
procedures? Use an intermediate paper in accomplishing this performance task.
